Fallout: New Vegas

Must say I'm really glad I gave FONV a second chance. Bit of a slow, frustrating start but I'm several hours in now and really enjoying it, although I can't imagine that anything in this game will top the awesomeness of Liberty Prime in FO3. :p

Im getting ,, THE STEAM SERVERS ARE CURRENTLY TOO BUSY TO HANDLE YOUR REQUEST. PLS TRY AGAIN LATER, s i thought id delete it and reinstall it, still the same, if you delete the game are your saves still in the folder?

I had that last night too. Was playing okay after tea until about 1900, then came back up about 2120 after watching a movie with the missus and couldn't start NV, kept getting the above message. Other Steam games (e.g. Railworks) loading and running okay. Needless to say "waiting a few minutes" did nothing, nor did deleting the client registry blob thingy or verifying the game cache. However this morning it's back on again.

Must say quite pee'd off about this. I bought and paid for the game (well okay licence to use on my PC), just wanted to progress my single player campaign a bit so why once it's registered and setup should the wretched thing need to authenticate with the server every time I want a quick game?

I have been playing through this game as a guy that focuses on explsoives and melee.....WOW. I cant recomend a playthrough as this enough.

Initially I thought my character might be a bit under powered compared to the good old fashioned small guns + all the sniper perks. I now have a belt fed machine grenade launcher that means I can easily take on 10 people at a time without even bothering to go into VATS (if I do its even more of a massacre). If I meet someone a bit more powerfull then my trusty rocket launcher tends to make people very dead very quickly.

@Aloreth...

Agree, on a replay it is good to explore all the things you didn't do the first (or second) time around. I bought the Prima guide book and there's scores of side quests that the main quest doesn't take you anywhere near. So at the moment (and assuming the game runs with the Steam issue), I've pursued a small section of the main plot to get enough XP for a companion and now gone off doing all the little odd jobs you wouldn't know were there, unless you had the guide.

Fricking hdd died and I lost all my mods and saves for my current play through

Was also getting that strange message from Steam last night about it being too busy to download. quite annoying.

Another must-have mod: one that enables you to play without Steam. I have a fully kosher DVD of the game, and yet I can't play the ****ing game because apparently the ****ing Steam servers are busy. Why can't I play the ****ing game I ***ing paid for? I've got the ****ing disk and I still can't ****ing play because I still need to connect the ****ing Steam servers. Why? In the name of God why to I need to connect to the ****ing Steam servers to play the ****ing game I paid for and have the ****ing disk for? The ****ing cover doesn't even say it's a Steam game, never mind that I can't ****ing play if the ****ing servers are busy. Why do I have to download a dodgy illegal patch to do what I paid good money to do? Steam activation I can live with, but when people are ranting about Ubisoft's silly DRMs, why does Steam escape?

And yes, I'm a little unhappy. I already hated Steam even more than I hate the fanbhoys who bang on endlessly about how it's the ****ing future of gaming. This merely confirms my hatred.

And F:NV is not very good either. Although I'd like to play it be sure. At some point. If Steam don't mind.

The FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) lets you play NV without going through Steam first. It's 100% must-have!

Check the FalloutNV folder in my documents or Documents\My Games, there might be save.bak files in the save folder you can rename.

The Bethesda Blog has a September 20th release date for Lonesome Road, the delayed DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian's action/RPG sequel, while also revealing plans for two additional DLC packs called Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal to follow a week later, offering content previously only available as a preorder bonus. They offer some screenshots from Gun Runners’ Arsenal and the following explanation of all this:
The Courier’s journey ends this September.

We’re excited to share that Lonesome Road, the fourth add-on pack for Fallout: New Vegas, will be available for download on Xbox LIVE, PlayStation Network and Steam on September 20th.

In Lonesome Road you are contacted by the original Courier Six, a man by the name of Ulysses who refused to deliver the Platinum Chip at the start of Fallout: New Vegas. Ulysses promises the answer as to why he didn’t take the job, but only if you make one last journey into the hurricane-swept canyons of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by earthquakes and violent storms. It’s up to you whether you take the job or not.

But wait! There’s more!!

Today we’re also announcing two additional DLC packs, Courier’s Stash and Gun Runners’ Arsenal, which will be available for download one week later on September 27th.

Courier’s Stash (Xbox LIVE for 160 Microsoft points, PlayStation Network and Steam for $1.99) gives players immediate access to four content bundles previously available only through pre-ordering Fallout: New Vegas. The Caravan Pack, Classic Pack, Mercenary Pack and Tribal Pack each offer unique weapons, apparel and aid advantages that will help you throughout your journey.

Gun Runners’ Arsenal (Xbox LIVE for 320 Microsoft points, PlayStation Network and Steam for $3.99) increases the range of unique weapons, weapon mods, ammo types and recipes waiting to be uncovered in the vast Mojave Wasteland.

Do you guys think theres any chance they will have a Game of the year edition out by christmas with all the DLC included

Mmm, not sure about by christmas tbh, obviously a goty is inevitable though. Keep checking on Steam, as i picked up all of the dlc so far for £2 each and it wasn't announced anywhere on Steam so you might get lucky one day if you keep checking.

I think it was a few days after the last dlc came out, so they might do teh same again

Unfortunately lost the c: as well.
I was actually wondering what features NV used of the steam cloud, but I guess its for the achievements rather than saves.

Im not sure the game actually won any Goty awards :p

Just started playing New Vegas again, got about 80 mods going and everything seems fine. This is 100 times easier to mod than Fallout 3!

For anyone interested NMC has released the texture pack for New Vegas now, it's the best texture pack by a mile- http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=43135

Also, iahve started using Project Reality, it is a weather and lighting mod only recently uploaded and imo it is far, far superior to Fellout and New Vegas Skies. It is still being improved as well and ther eis a new version cominf out this month- http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=42180

With NMC's nd Project Reality plus Imaginator, this is one of the besy looking games around!

Thats what I was thinking.....

Still a really good game though.... had a tough act to follow with FO3 and essentially wasn't a great deal different.

I wouldn't worry about it not winning GOTY, they'll probably just call it the Ultimate edition or something along them lines, after all its another way to make profit after game and DLC sales as slowed down

Also it is different really in some cases, I mean you had what 2 choices at end of F3 (well apart from who activated it, trying not to spoil the ending for anybody who hasn't played F3 yet), I haven't completed NV yet, but you have the choice of 4 different ways to go, not including who you help or not

1 problem I'm having on PC version is after getting outside of Big MT in Old World Blues it crashes randomly, sometimes PC needs rebooting as well

How are these running on your PC spec/performance wise?

Does the 7gb patch really require oc'd I5s and crossfire cards?

Hi Andy C, i got the same mods running on a 5770 and its doing 45-60fps, running like a dream.

I got a bit carried away with mods on Fallout 3 so i am keeping it simple this time and only got 7 running :). My goals were a mod to improve things which Project Nevada does a fantstic job, I liked the EVE mod for the Laser weapons, a companion so i went for willow which is a realy good one, a hide out for my loot and stuff, a UI so it was darns ui which i think is the best, CASM for auto saves every 3 mins as i die a lot or game crashes , MNC for the Textures (Running the smallest one)

I tried Nevada Skys but agree with Pighardia, Project Reality and Imaginator realy make a big difference to the way the weather and MNCs textures look, its like having fellout installed :), and dont forget to use the ATI or Nvidia graphics card fix, works a treat i got it running on Ultra Settings :)
