Fallout: New Vegas

ive already got the base game but the ultimate edition is on sale on steam at the moment for £7.49 which is cheaper than buying the DLC's separately.
has anyone bought the ultimate edition after owning the vanilla game? any problems with doign so?
and also, is the ultimate edition more violent? have read mixed reports on it

Just got this at long last, should I play it vanilla or are there some essential mods worth installing? *edit* Ive noted the mods mentioned above. any others?

Note: I will only be playing this game once if its anything like Fallout 3 which I have just about finished after 148 enjoyable hours.

If you are only going to play it once, you will miss out on a lot!

Essentials for a first and only playthrough, I woudl say are:

DarnUI or MTUI - For UI obviously
Project Reality- Weather and lighting
Electro City- adds lampposts and more lights
NVEC- Massive collection of bugfixes and small game improvements
EVE- good eyecandy mod
Wasteland Flora Overhaul- greatly improves trees, grass etc

And then if your system can handle it, you could add a texture pack or 2. The best is NMC's imo.

On top of this, you would be best off using Fallout Mod Manager to install them

ok thanks, I will use these, i used fomm on Fallout 3 :)

You are set then. If you used mods for FO3 as well, most of them were redone for NV anyway so you could pretty much use the same ones.

NVEC is the big one though. It is basically a massive collection of smaller mods. There are so many changes in it, but check the list of included mods, as you do not want to add a mod which is already included in NVEC.

Also, I forgot New Vegas Redesigned. An NPC overhaul which greatly improves facial textures and changes things so that no NPC has mismatched faces/voices

No. Install with manager does not mean FOMM, it means Nexus mod manager. I do not know how it works with New Vegas mods, it is very good with Skyrim though. I think it is best off to use FOMM atm the same way for FO3- download manually and use the package manager.

My bad, been a while since I tinkered with FO3

Do you have a link for DARNUI ? I'm not sure I have the right mod.

edit: found MTUI

http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1131897-wipzbeta-darnified-ui-nv/ (and make sure you edit the .ini file as it ells you to or it will not work;)) MTUI is on the Nexus.

And as Vorhees says, you can also just place the downloaded files in to your data folder and check them however it is simple enough to use FOMM package manager to install them, and that is the only way some mods can be configured as well.

This is a very useful mod to use as well- Mod Configuration Menu. If you install this last, you will get a menu in-game which lets you configure your mods such as Project Reality.

I finished OWB and thought it was excellent. I am just about to do Honest Hearst(I think....something about an expedition)

I have only ever used DUI, simply because it is what I used for FO3 so I can't really say. There are a few screenshots on previous pages, the ones from me have DUI on, most of the others(some by Edorf iirc) have MTUI.

I probably don't have to say this, but always at least read the front page of every mod as well, to see if it has any requirements or anything before you install them:)

Started this up the other day and my steam cloud saves didn't seem to sync back to the new PC... god knows how many hours lost. :(

Not sure if I can be bothered to play it again, is there any DLC or Mods that makes the game worth a replay?

I started a new game with this- New Vegas Enhanced Content

Everyone should use this when playing. It is a compilation of hundreds of small mods/fixes which really enhance gameplay. This + Project Nevada = WIN

NVEC adds a hell of a lot and coupled with Project Nevada it makes the game pretty special. Also, I just finished Old World Blues and it was brilliant. The best FO dlc I have ever played by a mile. And there is this- Beyond Boulder Dome, which looks pretty great as well. though I have not tried it yet.
