Fallout: New Vegas

Does anyone use the nexus mod manager with this game? I've been using it a lot with skyrim and it's great, but having trouble applying the Project Nevada patches using it, getting all kinds or errors.

NMM is still a bit broken for some scripts. I had problems too. In the end I went back to using Fallout Mod Manager. It isn't as easy, and still not perfect, but it gets the job done.

Most of the mods on NVnexus havent even been updated since NMM was released. You are best off sti king with FOMM for now. I used it for Skyrim as well and it is great, but but most of the mods for new vegas just weren't designed for it.

Hi folks, having picked this up in the steam sale, I am looking at some mods whilst it downloads.

I notice a few nice lists a few pages back, but have a couple of questions.

1 - question about the archiveInvalidated patch / mod.

A few mods say they require this, but apparently it is broken as of the latest patch? Any advice / feedback on this? Is it needed?

2 - I like the look of darnUI a lot more than the alternatives in the screenshots posted but can only find quite and old version on the New Vegas forum rather than the Nexus. Is that the most up to date version? It mentions copy / pasting a load of stuff into config files, any dramas with doing this?

Thanks! :)

You do not need to download archive invalidation. You can toggle it on /off in FOMM.

Darnui has not been updated for a while, that is the most up to date. You do need to edit the ini as described, or it will not work. You can just paste it from that Page.

Pighardia, any chance you could post a screenie of your mod load order when you get a moment?

Out of all the screenies I have seen of the game, yours look absolutely fantastic. Having played through the game at release on a 360, I would love to enjoy what the mod community has to offer.

The game has finished downloading now, and in addition I have downloaded the following:

FOMM
NVSE
F-O-O-K
NMC texture pack small
Electro City
EVE
Project Reality
Project Nevada
Wasteland Flora Overhaul
AWOP
Fallout New Vegas Redesigned 2
BOG Body replacer
NVEC Complete +
DUI
Primary Needs HUD
Unified HUD
Weapon Mod Menu
WMX
Weapon Retexture Project

Looks like I'll have a busy Sunday morning! :)

I would not use F.O.O.k and Project Nevada together, just use one as they clash a lot(I would use Project Nevada).

Also, make sure you have all of the compatibility patches you need. You will find them mainly in the misc section of the downloads page of each mod. Project Nevada at least needs compatibility patches for WMX, AWOP and EVE. Check the mod descriptions to find out if any are needed for each mod

Lastly, download BOSS to sort the load order out for you. Just run it after you have installed your mods.

can't play this as it keeps crashing using a few mods mentioned on last page, PN and that better NV world. Will switching to FOMM from NMM probably solve random crashes after 5-30 mins of play?

As above download BOSS to sort out load orders.

Also it will be worth using the 4gb NVSE loader found here to launch the game(alternate loader near the bottom of the page. The game will run much better with it on, providing you have at least 4gb RAM.

If you're playing with mods I would highly recommend watching this guy's videos. Although they are long, if you follow them exactly as he says it should work perfectly. At least it did for me :) I think I literally had about 1 crash in who knows how many hours after following all of the 'Modding Fallout NV 'Ultimate Edition'' videos. Plus by the end you'll understand modding more, so you will be able to experiment with other ones.

Thanks for posting Rossatron! I had the game working with a fair few mods in, and it looked fantastic. Then I downloaded a load of compatibility patches for the various mods (the WMX has loads), run the BOSS, and now it crashes on startup! DOH! :)

The fun of modding! Back to the drawing board...

OK, looks like Weapons Mod Expanded (WMX) is the culprit, it has tonnes of compatibility patches required.

Is Weapons Mod Expansion (WME) any good? Looks to be a lot simpler to set up, it has an EVE-AWOP compatibility patch, and Project Nevada has one too for it...

Yeah those vids will give you a good idea of what is going on.

Here is my FOMM

If you are getting ctds at start up it is because you are missing something that is required. click on each mod in FOMM, and it will tell you which other esps/esms are required. If you do not have one which is required, it will not start.

I use WMX, but tbh I find both of them are usually the most common cause of problems and if playing again I would think twice about using either I think.

I cannot stress how important it is to use Fallout Mod Manager for Fallout 3 + NV, and Oblivion Mod Manager for Oblivion, only use the Nexus Mod Manager for Skyrim until an official manager is released. Nexus has some serious, serious issues. If you haven't ran into them yet, count your blessings, and use the proper managers, your living on borrowed time. :p

As pighardia said, crashes on start-up could be broken load order. BOSS is a good idea but you can also try FNVEdit. It can be used for loads of stuff but what it will do on the most basic level is run your load order and show where the crash is occurring. From there you can check what files need what other files and make sure everything is in the right place.

Just found Vault 11. You can completely miss it if you're not looking for it, but it's worth the time exploring ;)

WOW!

Just explored it for the "Still In the Dark" mission. My new favourite FO dungeon. Piecing together the story was epic. I managed to turn stealth on and sneak up behind the robotsto deactivate them

Even though I have played what must be over 200hours over the last few years, there are still loads of places I have not explored.

The biggest problem I am having is that I keep getting Legion assassins come after me every 30 minutes....If I don't have any companions it is a tough fight!

This lot were waiting for me as soon as I left

Please resize images to a maximum 1024 pixels wide.

A few frag grenades and my trusty hunting rifle sorted them out though

Yup.

The lengths people went to in order to ensure their survival in Vault 11 were interesting and for the most part plausible - you could sense Katherine Stone's desperation for example. In a cruel twist of irony her choice to randomise the sacrifice only hastened the death of her husband and the entire population there.

The justice bloc's increasingly desperate attempts to hold sway over the populace and their attitude towards losing poker games against Nate fits with NV's general theme of scumbags at every turn.

The response of the vault computer when the few survivors decided to defy the usual process, and their final decision, underlined the futility of the conflict within the vault as well.

I liked the real life references to Eisenhower's political campaign, Soylent Green, the Milgram experiment and "The Lottery" short story by Shirley Jackson as well

Finding the recordings was great, and told the story very well, but I wasn't expecting there to be any more to it tbh...then I went in to the chamber and the video started and I was just thinking this is brilliant!

It isn't even a marked quest or anything, the only reason to go there is for the Brotherhood quest, and even then you could do that another way and never come across it, or not download the recordings.

I am thinking of doing Arcade's quest next as I have never got the Enclave together in any playthrough. I have spoken to the first two, but not followed it through before.

I also just picked up the signal for Dead Money, so I might go through that.(DLC delayer is essential)

So, just installed this and when I try to play my mouse goes over to my second monitor and minimizes the game all the time, it's really annoying, anyone have a fix?

As far as I know the game doesn't support multi-monitor setups. Disable the second monitor and try again.
