Fallout: New Vegas

noo, they make good games. Just buggy -.-

I disagree. As soon as they sold their souls to Zenimax the decline was inevitable. New Vegas was initially commissioned as a cash-in until Obsidian said something like "will work for food" and we got a decent game out of it (despite the loss of Legion oriented content and post-Hoover Dam play). Even so, they weren't given a cut of the profits or allowed to work on further patches after the Ultimate Edition release.

Fallout New Vegas

Picked this one up in a certain Summer Sale for £3.74! :D
Anyway I seem to have serious lag with the opening bik video, pauses, sound stutters like a broken record! bik videos are CPU intensive not GPU, so I know it's not a VGA driver issue.
The game is fine constant 60fps on ultra, max draw distances, etc. (game seems capped at this as vsync is off)
I had a look into enabling HPET (High Precision Event Timer) but that made things worse so I restored the default Windows 7 Time Stamp Counter (TSC)
I have discovered a fix:
Simply run a small program in the background. Play a song on mute in the background.
Or, if you have AMD CCC, you can open it up and go to video settings, this will open up a process in the task manager called MMLoader.exe that runs continuously taking up 1% of CPU usage. This is enough to allow the CPU to play back the bik videos correctly!
Bizarre so it seems!
Does anyone have another fix for this problem?

Picked this up during the Steam sale but just installing it now, is it worth just playing through it first time with no mods ?

If no, which ones should I get, can only really be arsed with the most important ones. I see some people have loads installed.

Just discovered Optimizer Textures. Fantastic, just the same as Skyrim version. Greatly improvd performance for me and completely stopped stuttering when using Project Reality. A must-use mod if you are using a texture pack, or if performance is not what it could be

Also, the FXAA injector is pretty good, but needs a bit of tweaking imo

Another nice texture pack as well- http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/42551

The NCR would probably lose the battle without the Courier's help, they've been weakened by years of fighting with the BOS, expanding too quickly and the poor training\supply situation is making them ineffective in the Mojave. Then there's the corruption higher up with Kimball\Olivier\cattle barons\Crimson Caravan...

I just totally stealthed my way through 'Beyond The Beef'. One of my favourite quests. Now that is all faction quests done. I don't know whether to do all side quests before finishing the game or save them 'til after the battle. I might do the 'remnants' quest at least.

I think there should be a way to get the NCR back on side after failing DTOTB. All my previous playthroughths were independent(I think) so I was going to go for NCR this time, but as I say, I wasn't paying enough attention.

I think the best thing to do is side completely with NCR, and then at the last second tell them to do one and go for an independent Vegas...that is what I did last time and it felt lie the best ending for me.

Yeah I posted about that about 6 months ago. Is it still being worked on? I had forgotten about it tbh.

For mods, I would either play it vanilla first, or just improve visuals with some of the mods I have posted on the last few pages.
If you do want to change gameplay a bit(nothing drastic, and all improvement imo), then Project Nevada is definitely worth using, and you can set everything to vanilla in the options if you want.

btw, NVEC has just had an update which adds even more mods!
