Fallout: New Vegas

One thing it lacks in vegas is the side quests to collect things throughout (appart from sunset saspirilla caps) the land like in 3 you could collect the bobble heads nuka cola quantums etc a few more missions like that would have been nice as i like to explore as much as possible.

I never gave this a look, as fallout 3 was extremely disappointing.

However in another thread someone said it was much more like the originals. So guys, what's it like. Is it just more of fallout3. Or is it tweaked to feel more like the originals?

Do you have to follow the story line?

I actually found Fallout 3 was better, as NV is really just more of the same in a new place from what I could tell.

agreed fallout 3 was better, i just hope fallout 4 will follow on from that story and style of gameplay, i've heard it's going to be set in Boston (M.I.T. land :D) and is a follow on from f3 so we'll see

IMO NV felt empty and the strip was a big let down and not that hard to get to i got there around level 10 on my 2nd play through and once there the game is half over, i know there are short cuts in f3 but with f3 i always i felt like i wanted to play the story the right way.... well with the exception of doing operation anchorage so i could get the shock sward and winterised power armour :D

i must say mods help NV become more playable and add quite a bit to the experience but still prefer the Washington city and wasteland experience vs the desert wasteland

i also think that fallout 3 had a better story and made you feel more part of the story being as you grow up through the game where as you just happen to wake up from a 10mm to the head

don't get me wrong i enjoyed NV and have clocked over 1000 hours playing between the 360 version first then when a good number of mods were i switched to the pc and as long as they don't try anything crazy with 4 and change everything or even worse remove modding tools i will play 4 and any other that follow, a new updated/ less buggy free engine would be nice as would having it optimised properly for the pc

TBH i haven't played much of the older games as turn based isn't my thing but the little i did play didn't feel like fallout 3 or NV as they are FPS/RPG games,

IMHO i would like to see a remake of the old ones but in the new style RPG/FPS i know the people that really love the old ones and don't really like the currant games but it's the only way i will ever get experience the full back story as f3 and nv are already in my top 5 games of all time

There is much more of the feel of the originals about it. A completely non-lethal playthrough is possible, and even the smallest quest is incredibly complex. Even some of the characters from FO2 are mentioned/featured.

It just has much more of the 'feel' about it, from the characters and humour featured to the intricately plotted side-missions. There are also many more features to the game than FO3, that were mainly present in mods for that game such as a hardcore mode(essential imo), companions and weapons mods/crafting ammo. These are all in the vanilla game. There is also A LOT more content in the game.

Yeah, you will not be disappointed if you liked FO1+2 trust me;) ...it is an aspect of the game where it doesn't get enough credit imo.

It is much more a spiritual successor to the first games than FO3....as I said earlier in the thread, FO3 really does seem a bit amateurish in comparison imo.

In addition to what Pighardia said: the character system, while not perfect, is a lot closer to the originals' SPECIAL implementation and perks are once every 2 levels. You're no longer flooded with skill points (you can't max all the skills) and bobbleheads are gone, plus in the stock game there's a level cap (though your character be plenty powerful by the time you get there).

The style of the game might be too Western for Fallout purists (but that comes with the territory, being set in Nevada), but I think it respects the lore far better than Fallout 3. VATS is no longer godmode, plus the combat encounters are balanced around real time (like a certain flying enemy that was the bane of many players before it was nerfed in patches). Level scaling is used much more intelligently than in Fallout 3 so this means a low-level character can't go everywhere at the start.

tbh, there aren't that many useful perks anyway imo. I wasn't really bothered which I picked by the end in vanilla. More perks has some interesting ones, but even they run out quickly as well.

Sorry if this has been asked before but it is a huge thread!

I'm running vanilla NV at the moment with all the addon packs and I'm looking for a mod to rearrange the UI.

The amount of clutter in it with ammo, weapons, armour, misc items etc....it's utterly ridiculous, so I'm looking for a mod without bugs that'll neatly arrange them, hopefully into categories!

Anyone know of one?

Thanks!

Edit - I should also note I've never modded NV before so is there anything special I would need to do to get it working?

Thanks again!

Darnui is the best ui mod. Can't download it from the nexus. It is linked earlier in the thread a few pages back(can't link as on my phone). Make sure you follow the instructions and change the ini as it tells you to. There are also a few screen shots showing it off earlier as well.

Heh, was just playing Fallout 1, got into a random encounter with a group of giant mantis on the way to Vault 15. They killed me in two combat rounds :p

I played NV through and did the first three DLC's as they were released and just noticed that there were a few more which I'm just getting now.

I've not put on any mods to the game so wondered which were essential? I know from the thread in the past some had dozens on, but just wanted the top few really. Sorry if it has been asked a lot of times, but the thread is huge :o

You'll have to be more specific, we all have different opinions on what should be in the game, play styles and graphical fidelity. There are mods that add or address pretty much every conceivable item. Personally I prefer ones that fix any outstanding technical issues (Freeside Open for example, those barriers were added to avoid consoles stuttering) and bring the game closer to classic Fallout (eg item\combat re-balancing such as JSawyer, lower level cap, less perks).

Yeah ones that fix bugs or improve graphics a bit would be good. Not worried about the perks and items as such.
