Fallout: New Vegas

Excellent - really like total conversion mods. Fingers crossed for 31st March.

This mod looks brilliant :D. I just started a new playthrough of a severely overmodded original but it's becoming lackluster already and I'm only in Primm - I've played it too many times now :P This will be fun though when it's out.

I've had the urge to get back into a Fallout game and want to start with New Vegas. What mods should I install? I've only played it for a couple of hours so I don't want anything game changing as such. So far I've downloaded (but not installed);

Sprint Mod
Realistic Headshots
More Traits/More Perks
Greener Grass
FO OK
Fellout
NMC's Texture Packs

Is this a good list for a first time playing through a Fallout game and what would you add/take away from this list? I've seen ENB packages are these better/worse than the above graphics mods?

Thanks :).

I prefer Project Nevada over FO OK, but really up to yourself

You'll want to run a texture mod even with a ENB, but you don't need a ENB for good visuals, few mods can do basicly same thing without the annoying SSAO bug ENB's have

Few mods I do recommend are Electro-city, Mission Mojave (fixes aload of bugs), and WMX

Electro-city in action :p

There is NVEC but never used it (positive it works without DLC), how come you don't have the DLC?

I bought it Summer 2011 so all the DLC weren't out and I neglected the game so didn't pick up the DLC I hadn't bought yet in any of the sales :p. Might buy them this summer.

Didn't see the other version, will give it a go, thanks :).

Ah ok, I'm currently playing though it with DLC, on Honest Hearts, and it seems ok (it was the DLC that looked worse to me from trailers though)

As I was saying before about ENB if you don't want to run 1, you can use Dynavision, Cinematech and Imaginator

Oh almost forgot, DarNified UI and oHUD are awesome mods too

Trying to get FO OK working but it keeps crashing on startup (only when I activate the folder with the ESMs). Deactivated all other mods so the only thing that should be installed is NVSE. Any ideas?

Fixed it, had to disable the DLC esm/esp.

Don't think you can Kii, think you just have to remember what you had installed. I always keep a folder on my storage drive with mods I have installed for each game :p.

This might sound really stupid but how do I know if a mod is activated and working?

I have been downloading and installing mods all afternoon, at first when I launched the game it was crashing but now after messing about with load order in a seemingly random way (mess about, launch if fail try again) and so on in the NMM I am to a point where I have launched the game without crashing. Does this mean everything is working?

I have started a game and some mods (radio stations, more perks) actually tell you it has activated which is great but my graphics are not really impressive after installing the high texture mod. Will continue to experiment throughout the evening.

Did you activate archive invalidation?, textures won't work unless you do that

Load order is somewhat easy with BOSS, or do it yourself, just look at what each mod masters are and place it beneath it (a lot of mods have a load order list on page), also a Merge patch is really handy when running a lot of mods

Good place to start if your new to modding NV is Gophers channel on youtube https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0E5E8CA384409B11

Hi thanks for the reply. My issue with these mods is all of them basically say to be the last one, not very helpful. I gleaned that nevada skies must be the last one above all else, so that is what I tried to do.

Now this is my method of installing all mods.

All mods I download manually I look into the archive and only take the necessary files according to the readme, 7zip them and add mod via Nexus Mod Manager then 'activate' it with the button on there.

Then I uncheck and check the 'Archive Invalidation' which I think is that 'activate archive invalidation' you were saying about?

Maybe I'm used to better graphics from other games: this is what I got so far with MNC Texture Package

I've had a look at the post last page, seems Pighardia has got some really good 'ENBs'?? I will have to try this.

Use BOSS to sort your load order. Otherwise, you have a lot of mods there that don't really matter where you put them tbh..mods that add things to the game, generally can be placed anywhere, for example, Conelrad radio just adds a new radio station to the game, and does not change anything in the base game, so will not conflict with anything. Project Nevada changes a hell of a lot, for example changing perks, so will conflict with 'more perks', so those two mods will have to be in a specific load order. Again, mods like Vurts flora, just add things so can go anywhere really.

Simple rule- if a mod changes the game, worry about where it loads, if it just adds something, it can go anywhere

FYI, you have a plugin 'perk every level' in your load order, but you can change the number of perks you get in the Project Nevada menu...also, you will want the mod configuration menu, to make changing options easier:)
