Fallout: New Vegas

If these guys are better than the writers of games like Planescape Torment, why aren't they working in the industry? :p

Some use unofficial modding as a way of getting the recognition to break into it imo. :)

That said, of the 2 major questlines, one has been given far more attention than the other.

Modded up last night and it's looking great - got to leave the vault now.

That's true, Obsidian have hired a couple of modders before. They weren't writers though, rather level designers (eg Kevin Saunders) and the like. The core of the company is still Black Isle veterans, and they were into pen and paper D&D back in the day.

The original AlienSwarm was a mod for ut2k4, the modders were hired by Valve and there first task was to recreate the mod in Source its now a great F2P game on steam.

Minnerva Meta Stasis and Research And Development were both 2 great mods for HL2. The teams were hired by Valve and worked on Portal 2.

.... also Counterstrike
... DayZ
... Team Fortress

The quality of some MOD content quite often surpases the original game.
Skyrim on PC, another great example.

I agree, but I also get a bit annoyed when it gets to the stage where people use it as a base to moan about the original game. Fallout 3 was an example of this...everyone saying how it 'has to be modded' etc, forgetting that the base game is incredible. I feel like Skyrim might reach that stage as well. And when everyone always goes on about 'modders have to fix Bethesda's broken game' whenever a new one is released it really annoys me.

PS. Anyone starting a new game, I recommend the mod 'Old Ghoul Eye'. It adds a new race, which is basically a normal one, which looks bit better, and adds features that make it actually look like you have just been shot in the head!

Here is my character-

Gameplay-wise, I am only using NVEC and F.O.O.K...it really is all you need now!

Just like to say thank you for the list you have made, it is very useful for me (re: my other posts on this thread!)

After putting back Windows 7 from 8 on I am trying to install the same things as you.

I have taken a couple of screenshots below to show my results so far. I am not sure why my sky is different from yours?

Now just need to install DarnUI, 4GB fix (getting lag) and gameplay changer.

Is NVEC you mention this?

I normally install Project Nevada although to be honest have not even completed a vanilla game, not sure if worth modding gameplay before completion (although will have to start again) before I start to play with game-changing mods?

Thanks for any help ;)

Yes, that is the NVEC I use. There are 3 versions(or more). Just bug fixes, bug fixes and game play enhancements, and all that + character enhancements, which changes appearances of characters where they don't make sense(a clearly black voice for a white npc for example) and generally improves faces. There are instructions on the page for load orders when using project reality as well.

Your sky is not the same as mine because it is constantly changing weather system. You can go in to the mod configuration menu and change weather cycles if you want. And If you are getting lag, try turning dofin aand then off again in Project realitys menu. And use stutter remover... There is no reason not to.

Make sure you toggle dof on and then off again in Project reality menu, as there is a bug which gives really low frame rates sometimes.

I'm not able to as the mod config menu doesn't appear in the pause menu :(

Also seems to do the 1st time installation of directX when loading FalloutNV - don't remember it doing that on my 1st playthrough.

Completed the 1st Installment of Project Brazil - when you leave Vault 18 you get 4 options; continue into PB's wilderness; go to Doc Mitchell's house (starting new vanilla game); credits; and something else eluding me now. There's not much in PB's wilderness yet so eagerly waiting for 1st July.

I am happy now I have finally managed to get fnv4gb.exe to work with Lone Wanderer FNV ENB version 2B FULL

I had to do what it said by copying everything (inc. Boris' .dll) as requested to:

1. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas

In ADDITION, I had to duplicate it again in the following dir

2. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Fallout New Vegas\exes

If I had the FNV ENB in the 1. - there was NO "ENBSeries 0.173 for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas" confirmation sign in the top-left corner when launching fnv4gb.exe

If I had the FNV ENB in 2. - the confirmation on the top-left screen was there BUT in reality you could see NO FNV ENB effects in game.

Now with it copied in both (1. + 2.) the "ENBSeries 0.173 for Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas" does show when launching from fnv4gb.exe and you can see the effects in game BUT with tremendous lag.

I installed the stutter remover which worked great in reducing the effect (possibly borderline playable //ocd prevents this) so thanks for the suggestion.

And If you are getting lag, try turning dofin aand then off again in Project realitys menu
Sorry what exactly would you like me to try turning on and off in the menu?

I have been watching youtube videos by gopher he seems to recommend getting Fake Fullscreen Mode I will look into this next.

Subtle depth of field in the Project Reality Mod configuration menu. Even if it is already off, turn it on then off again. I it is a bug, and since the author has stopped molding all together, it will never be fixed unfortunately.

Getting 4gb to work with NVSE is a real pain. There is an alternative loader somewhere, I think it is packaged with the enhanced shares ENB, which is what I use now.

Anyone else using Caesar's New Regime?...completely overhauls the Legion armour to make them much more intimidating. Makes a real difference!

Tempting, as I've just started a second playthrough now (in Goldspring's) - no idea who I sided with on my 1st playthrough as it was a couple of years ago (still got the savegame). That mod does have an esp for those without DLC like me.

Any recommended mods other than what he lists (ADAM, NCR Rearmament, Fort Meridius)?

The Spice of Life. Adds loads of new clothing to levelled lists so that you will barely ever see two NPCs wearing the same clothes. I don't use Adam or Fort Meridius. Military Enhancement Project is good as well, it basically makes all NCR places a bit better.

It is a shame you don't have the dlc, as NVEC really is a must have imo... Adds so much to the game!

I swing by for a suggestion and to ask some advice:

Suggestion - for those that are playing this game through again, please try a pure explosives build. Its a lot of fun and very powerful, you start off fairly weak relying on sticks of dynamite from the powder gangers and the odd grenade. As soon as you get the belt fed grenade launcher you become a walking death machine. I have a couple of save games inside where super mutants have to get to me through a door, cover the door in grenade fire and watch the slow motion shots of limbs flying through the air. The great thing is still being able to fire during the slow motion bits. Oh man.....off to load this up now.

Advice - what other builts are fun? I played this game as a small weapons guy and of course as an explosives guy. Not sure I really find the energy weapons entertaining. What do you find interesting?
