Fallout: New Vegas

Hopefully all the hype about having original devs and/or story writers from the original first two actually shows.

I loved FO3 but they really need to kick story/options etc into overdrive to beat the old ones.

I doubt it they will still be bound by bethesda's insane need to pander to the retarded.

Oh no you can't kill this person they're going to give you a quest and we can't have you complaining about the game being broken because you didn't get paid because you decided to execute your employer.

I mean actions actually having consequences? No no no the special little children wouldn't be able to cope with such preposterous ideas.

Tefal, that's what I hated about FO3, I was constantly confronted with options that didn't work, or weren't there at all.

(I haven't played it in over a year..)
Like the bit in Megaton, you can decide to tell the Sheriff that Mr. Burke is trying to hire you to detonate the bomb, but in turn the Sheriff dies.

Problem is, I killed Burke before he even fired a shot and the Sheriff still dies, it's a plot you(I) couldn't change at all, ever, unless it was a bug but I absolutely could not change the outcome. One of many plot twists I could not explore.

Boo.

Er... if you killed Burke before he fired the shot then the Sheriff would not die. The fact he still died says you failed to stop him in time. I know this because i have, numerous times, killed Burke before he shot the Sheriff and i get met with a 'thanks' from him. But I will agree that the scenario is absolutely ridiculous because the only way you can stop him is by knowing he'll do it in advance...

They have gone the wrong direction in that regards since Morrowind. I remember when all NPCs were killable, absolutely every one, including Vivec if you felt like it. It was beneficial when it gave you the message that you had killed an NPC critical to the main quest but never bothered you otherwise and certainly didn't prevent you completely, leaving you to face up to what you've done. Oblivion you could still do the same but if i recall there were fewer ways to get out of it and you were simply stumped. FO3 they just prevented you killing anyone important, which is ****ing annoying on my Brotherhood Outcast (alt start) game where the Brotherhood of Steel are hostile to me. When i go see Three Dog i've got to shoot my way through 2 or 3 'critical' NPCs who return with new weapons despite the fact i shot them from there hands and stole them each encounter. I should probably just figure out what the command is to remove that...

Who gives a crap about graphics? So many people ignore fantastic games because their stupidly over-priced GPU doesn't get warm playing it.

Christ. FO3 is a fantastic game. I bet Vegas will be too. Who cares if the graphics don't make you break down in tears of amazement.
It the art direction here though its lacking in all the media shown so far so either:

1: They are holding back as its so incredible (unlikely).

2: Its dated & unoriginal (unfortunately quite likely based on the media shown so far most of it looks worse than Fallout3 )

Fallout3 engine in Bethesda hands made some great looking environments especially most of the 5 DLC packs. So its still capable in the right hands. I am suggesting Obsidian are not the right hands at all as they do not seem capable of making a decent environment based on whats been released so far only the pre-rendered trailers looked acceptable the rest looked to me very sub par to Fallout3

I have a recent theory that nowadays all major publishers are so greedy just because for example Fallout3 + DLC made say $30M profit they want Fallout New Vegas to make more money so reduce the development budget by 15-20% to compensate thinking that even if its poor FNV will still make $20-25M but because it cost less to make its actually a better risk.

This is becoming more & more obvious when you look at recent high profile games that they get say 2 years to make the entire product including Q&A vs the 3 years plus they need for a really decent game :(

Look at the media here & tell me I am wrong!

No, if you read all of my post you'd see at the time, no matter what you'd do he'd die. As mentioned, could have been a bug but I never bought the game till after quite some time, maybe even a year :/ .

I'd have hoped something like that would've been fixed but from what you have told me, it has! :D

I'm actually starting to get worried as there's really not that much FNV media out there. Shouldn't every gaming site be full of Fallout news at this point? Previews, videos, interviews, everything. I'm not seeing the coverage most triple A games get few weeks before release.

Same with Medal of Honor actually.

exactly, FO3>>>>>>>> HUGE> crysis

I agree that graphics are not the be all and end all of games and I'll be the first to say that the *gameplay* in FO3 is just awesome.

But.....whats wrong with wishing for better graphics? The powerful tech is there. We all have huge widescreen monitors. Wont a game that looks good AND plays good be even awesomer!!

Just Cause 2. I cant think of a better example. Hella fun gameplay and will you just look at those wicked graphics they make ALL the difference on these nice big displays. Have you seen the water in JC2 geez!

So yea....I totally agree you cant diss FO3 just cuz its graphics aint snazzy but us being such visual creatures how can we help NOT wishing for a little better eye-candy.

Problem is excelent gfx = expensive and good game play usually = niche and so never makes enough to afford high end gfx.

no excuse for poor crappy low res textures.
rendering textures generally isnt that stressful on modern gfx cards its all the shaders so why not include high res textures?

Exactly and there is a good reason for that it just does not look all that good.

Gameplay is what this game will be all about as some of the media on the official screenshots URL are really shocking & about 5-6 years out of date

You know... i get the feeling i could run New Vegas above minimum settings with this... I can only assume those are the minimum specs because if they are recommended then perhaps i was mistaken about the level of the graphics...

Just pre-ordered it from the Purple People. Comes with the armoured vault clothing. Meh. It is showing promise as it uses the FO3 Gfx engine with the FO2 scripting team.
