Fallout: New Vegas

i Just pre-ordered on steam now, get the caravan pack, cant wait for this game, is it worth getting the new medal of honor?

Likewise, really looking forward to this.

Quick off topic'ish question. I played FO3 and loved it to bits. I did not however, try any of the DLC packs that were released for it like Anchorage, The Pitt etc.

Is it worth me reinstalling FO3 and trying out the DLC packs?. What sort of longevity do the packs bring as regards playing time?.

I really enjoyed the DLC (I bought the GOTY edition which had them included) probably added a weeks play doing them quickly - obviously depending on how much time you're going to spend on them.

I think a fair few people might get a bit of a shock if they're expecting this to be like Fall Out 3

Personally i'm waiting for a bit, I loved FO3 but I can see this being very different, hopefully for the better but we'll see

DLCs are epic. Some provide sod all time (like Operation Anchorage which you can just rush through an about an hour) but give obviously strong rewards but ones like Point Lookout provide a load more gameplay.

Like Fallout 3 in what way? It certainly looks like it'll play like it even if they do make a better job of story or dialogue or whatever, the only thing i'm uncertain about is how stable it is, how moddable it will be and if its even going to be worth getting before a GotY edition is released. If it really doesn't have enough variation from FO3 i see no reason to get it yet as i can still have plenty of fun trawling the modded wastelands of DC.

Eh? It looks almost identical, both graphically and combat wise, but with a different location/storyline and a few little extras like gambling.

I pre-ordered today guys and I can't wait!

I played through fo3 and all of the dlc throughout 2009 and I have to say it was one of the most engaging gaming experiences of my life :D

I think I must have accrued about 80 gaming hours in total. I'm really hoping that new vegas will give me the same sort of experience as fo3; so what's the latest, I've read reviews saying it's just going to be like a well polished bit of dlc and others have stated that it will be like a brand new fo experience...

I hope it's like fo3 :)

Not sure what to expect with this one but I will be purchasing. Haven't bought a game for a while so quite looking forward to this title.

wish i could say the same, im trying to love FO3 but i just cant get into it :(
i hope they make new vegas a tad more newb friendly, like making it bloody clear which quests you can do at certain levels etc...
(i may be missing vital info abotu how to know where to go killing stuff though, so welcome knowledge :p)

Huh? Level is arbitrary once you get past about 5-10. You can go straight to GNR and use the Brotherhood as human shields as early as you want. The only hard part is his quest that depends on what your gear and style is but even then you can probably sneak through at night with a Stealth Boy regardless. Failing that you can go to Rivet City any time or bypass the lot and go straight to the hidden Vault.

If the game was anymore newb friendly there wouldn't be a point >< Only certain areas have fixed Yao Guai and Deathclaw spawns that you don't stand a chance against early on.

Easiest path to take in vanilla is Repair/Small Guns/Sneak, max out your Repair asap, get Sneak to 70+ and get Small Guns as high as you can without messing up the other 2. Then its just a case of picking up the Lincolns Repeater, Ol' Painless or Lever Action Rifle.

see, most of that went right over my head so its not that new player friendly is it. the times ive got ripped apart from goign into the wrong area or soemthign is stupid, its very frustrating and i feel like im lost tbh when trying to get anywhere.

@MOOGLEYS, cheers for the tip i will price up getting the guide

Well most of that is the advanced "I know the game" strategy.
But for a simple glossary:
Yao Guai - Common high level animal, only forced to spawn in/around the Yao Guai Tunnels i believe. Frequently the cause of ****ting yourself when the ******* sneaks around behind you and leaps on you.
Deathclaw - Uncommon high level animal, only forced to spawn in a Campsite in SW corner, Old Olney and Deathclaw Sanctuary. Will rip you a new 1 with ease so if you see it you're better off running.
Lincolns Repeater - Powerful unique rifle firing Magnum rounds with 0 spread so is pinpoint accurate.
Ol' Painless - Unique Hunting Rifle with 0 spread.
Lever Action Rifle - Common rifle in the Point Lookout DLC, think the boatman sells em rarely. Backwater is the unique version.

But really if you are being killed by things around Megaton then either you need to be more careful, realistic about what you can tackle or lower the difficulty. Dogs are stupidly dangerous in vanilla at the beginning. I admit i used a map from the net to find bobblehead locations but using a guide will just spoil things or just restrict you to how they want you to play.
In reality, Small Guns/Sneak is the way to go in vanilla. Automatic weapons are pretty much worthless compared to the power of sneak critical heashots. Big Guns require 100% devotion to get anywhere near usable so just ignore them. Melee weapons are fine but not a good choice for a first game.

You can't just dismiss it as not newb friendly because it doesn't hold your hand and tell you where and when to go places. They level up foes for you as you go along but you easily become stronger. Most locations where hard foes are force spawned you probably won't be near and if you engage them you deserve the untimely death you get. Bethesda games are notoriously newb friendly recently. Its an open world and you make your own way in it, Megaton offers the sidequests and primary quest that should get you going fine.
Once you get into it and install mods like MMM and FWE things become a lot more interesting...
