May change my foward line depending on injuries / new signings.

Midfield is pretty tasty though!

/secretly hoping for many MOM awards for Hargreaves....

Hargreaves will either be a very good buy, or a poor one.

It depends whether he plays many games for Man Utd this season.
What with Carrick, Scholes, Nani and Anderson... its looking very packed for competition.

The effort he puts in will probably mean he'll get some good points... IF he gets to play!

I'd have David Connolly instead of Lee Dong-Gook as he'll play regularly for Sunderland and score more too. And I think with Chelsea's midfield and Essien looking to reclaim his own central position that Makelele will feature less and less. I think he may even be going this summer.

First rule of fantasy football: Do not buy Makelele.

hehe my bad :D Who would you recommend instead, I only really started getting in to football properly towards the end of last season so don't have the greatest of knowledge on who to pick :)

If someone can recommend me a good cheapish attacking midfielder then it will let me boost something like my sub-defence :)

I got rid of dong-gook as well for connolly. :)

Shocked at the amount of people who have expensive defensive midfielders (any of Hargreave, Makelele, Mascherano, Sissoko etc), your more likely to get points buying a cheaper attacking midfielder.

Midfielders get points for assists, goals and if there team keeps a clean-sheet. Basically any attacking midfielder, even one at a smaller club, is likely to get much more points than any defensive midfielder (especially Makelele as he's unlikely to play much this season).

Maybe someone like Gary Speed who shares the same value.
Risky one there, unlikely to play every game this season. Though most people have thought he wouldn't be playing much for the last 5 years.

McSheffrey is a bargain @6.5, bags of goals and assists last season for Birmingham. Either him or try and get an extra 0.5 for Bentley.

I usually think of these things when it's too late, but say if I picked 5 cheap defenders all rated at £4m, and played 3-5-2 and basically used most of the money for fantastic attacking players, is there any drawback to doing this? Or is it better to have a more balanced team?

Well defenders & goalies actually have a better price/points ratio than midfielders and strikers, so it might not be the best idea.

Depends how the defenders turns out, you will get points for clean sheets, 2 points for playing more than 60 mins. So in theory a good defender can get 5 points for a clean sheet game, more if he assist or even more if he scores. Getting Terry is usually good because whenever he plays Chelsea usually keeps a clean sheet and he plays a lot and scores the odd goal. But the bargain buy last season has been Matt Taylor for me, he played in midfield and got credit for clean sheets and score about 10 goals over the season, bagged me loads of points. Getting a defender from a team that's in the bottom 3 is usually a bad idea since the only points you'll be getting is for playing and not clean sheets.

Or you can play 3-5-2, put 3 defenders of the same team in the back. I did that for about 10 games last year with Campbell, Primus and Taylor. When Portsmouth kept a clean sheet i got good number of points from it. The down side is when they let in a goal my entire back role suffers.
