Far Cry 4 due this November

I think it's a hotfix for the save bug introduced with 1.6 patch
I hope so. It's been rather annoying having made progress in the game only to a) have the game crash on me and b) not be able to save the game manually every so often in anticipation of the crash. :D:mad:

Edit: Still cannot save manually. I also can't fast travel after a few minutes in game because that feature is unavailable. I think this is linked to the whole "can't access the main menu when an autosave is in progress" message that I'm getting. Even the 39Mb patch hasn't helped. I've also tried moving my savegame folder to my desktop and forcing FC4 to recreate it as per http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.ph...ss-anymore?p=10467928&viewfull=1#post10467928

Going to try http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.ph...ss-anymore?p=10467826&viewfull=1#post10467826 but I don't hold out much hope. :( This game is now unplayable for me as I can't save manually and the game can't save for automatically because there's something happening in the background stopping it from completing an autosave.

I appear to have, somehow, fixed my save issue. I turned off the cloud save setting in uPlay and moved my savegame folder to my desktop forcing uPlay to create a new folder and then ran the game. With there being no prior savegame folder FC4 started anew. So I quit FC4 and re-enabled the cloud save setting in uPlay and went back into FC4. This seemed to work as the save % and time were slightly behind what I'd got to before but was actually quite slow so I chose that savegame and managed to get back to where I was in terms of karma.

I realised that it must have been the local savegame folder that was causing the problem by having been corrupted and clashing with the uPlay cloud save. I theorised that if I removed the local savegame and ran the game as if starting for the first time and then resumed the cloud saves that perhaps I could get the cloud save to my PC and carry on as normal. :)

I am assuming most of the posters got this game for free because you would not spend money on such a badly coded game.

no because you dont know that it's a pile of junk until it's too late, this aint the 3rd game at all, because this 4th game is wrong in so many ways.

you can see exactly where they've gone wrong, they've said, ``the 3rd game is a bit boring, lets boost everything and change its location``

the big mistake is that they havent realised what made the 3rd game so good and they've done this before too !!! because FC2 was rubbish as well

I have put in 20 hours in this and I'm amazed to see so many people having issued with this game in terms of bugs etc. I got it on pre-order and managed to finish it before the latest patches to fix some of the occasional stutters that I got pre-patch.

My impression is that it actually works reasonably well with older hardware and single GPU configurations.

Hello, I can't seem to get the campaign working unfortunately, can anybody help?

I get into the main menu fine, then when I try and start a new campaign, it crashes at the same point in the loading screen, crashing back to windows with the message 'Far Cry 4 has stopped working'. I've tried it about 20 times and the same thing happens every time, tried resolutions from 4k to 1080p, high settings to everything on low, tried online and offline, and still the same thing happens.

Then I checked the minimum system requirements and it seems my outdated q6600 cpu falls under the minimum specs... but then I saw someone else here is using the exact same cpu at the same speed with a 980gtx with no problems (I'm using a 970gtx).

So I tried the map browser mission thing and it works perfectly! Even some maps are very playable at 4k with high settings, but 1080p is silky smooth at high settings... so I'm guessing it's not a hardware problem?

I'm not sure if I've got the latest patch, how can I check? Any other ideas as to what the problem might be??

Specs are:

Intel q6600 at 2.4ghz
970gtx at stock
8gb ddr3 ram (not sure the speed)
520w corsair psu
Windows 8

If anyone has any ideas on how to help, it'd be very much appreciated!

I have had this exact same issue. I have been starting it up every so often and it seems to get a little further. However one player campain crashes when loading...

To check what patch FC4 is on, look on the main screen in the bottom left. It should say 1.6.0.

So am I right in saying you can't actually start a new game? I've read in this thread a few pages back that those of us with 8GB of RAM or less are having problems.

Have you tried running both the uPlay and FC4 executables as administrator? See http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9564-run-administrator-windows-8-a.html for how to do this and the executables I've applied that to are
Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\FarCry 4\bin\FarCry4.exe" -skipintro
Apart from you running Windows 8 and having a 970 we seem to have similar systems. I've got an Intel Q9560 and an ATI HD7850 and FC4 will crash my PC every so often. The only thing I can do is to turn the PC off and back on. :(

Have you verified the FC4 game files? Run uPlay, click on the Games icon (top left) and then click on Far Cry 4. You'll get a Far Cry 4 page. Middle left will be a button saying 'Play Far Cry 4'. Click on the arrow and select 'Verify files'. See what that does.

FC3 has rubbish AI, all the same, tactically stupid and generally as dumb as hell, lets mention a few things

1...... they always know exactly where you are, even at range and with suppressors on, but in reality you could be anywhere... this is the shooter's worst fault

2.....they always try to get back into their jeeps to drive at you, after you've just killed 3 of them so easily, without knowing how vulnerable this is, it's so dumb.

3.....you're killing them so easily but they still say, ``have you been doing this long and maybe i should shoot myself so you dont feel so bad``.... their conversation is totally out of context

4.....by foot or by jeep, they just charge at you without thinking....so easy to kill

if you play FC3 all the time you start to notice these faults really badly, you dont notice the graphics at all..........but you do in FC4

I think shooters have a long way to go yet, but you tended not to notice this so much in FEAR....... because this game although very old has much better AI, they use cover and outflanking so much better.

It's a shame to see so many people having issues with this game. I've been running it without issue on the spec in my sig at 1080p with the Geforce Experience 'optimal' settings? Actually, after checking most of these seem to be set to low/medium but strangely it's running at 2700x1500 DSR'd down to 1080p. Go figure? I should probably play around with these settings but I've been too busy enjoying the game to care and it looks fantastic as is!

It's basically FarCry 3.5 but it's still awesome and definitely a contender for game of the year IMO. For anyone contemplating it don't let the negativity in this thread put you off!

Even with the latest patch FC4 was crashing every so often. I couldn't work out what was happening or how often it was. Sometimes it would be 15 minutes before the crash, other times I'd be able to game for an hour before the crash came along.

I thought it was a general crash or a graphics issue because one of my monitors went black and the other one went a blue colour. I'm only using one in the game I must add.

However there was a nasty machine gun-esque sound coming from my speakers. I wondered if perhaps there was a problem with the sound card or some other multimedia device in Windows. In the Device Manager I found and AMD High Definition Audio Device and a general High Definition Audio Device. I disabled the AMD one and tried the game. The crash came again. So I checked out the drivers for my Asus Xonar D2 device with Windows' automatic driver update checker. It was up-to-date but then I remembered a thread in the Windows forum about audio lag or something and a link posted to a third party's drivers for Asus cards. I downloaded and installed those drivers today and I haven't had a crash since. :)

no problem at all with this game here either, everything set to max, on the other hand ACU is very slow at responding, even with settings just on high

The game has faults but you can see from some of the postings here that it runs well for some & bad for others, some have found a fix by adding new drivers etc so it can't all be the games fault & it has to be said that it's impossible for developers to allow for every deviation of home Pc's on a sandbox game of this type.

Thank you very much, lot's of helpful stuff to try later on.

Yeah I can't start any new games in the campaign. Thought 8gb would last me a while but hey ho.... another thing to add to the upgrade list!

Will let you know how I get on!

I'm on the 2nd play after reloading the outposts, & I already found all the locations with the question mark & activated them, I had so much money I thought I'd buy the location maps for all areas & now the map suddenly has a load more question marks for undiscovered locations. most so far seem to be caves inc some where you can't go high enough on a buzzer so have to grapple & fight off Leopards to reach, anyone else tried buying the maps?

I bought all the maps pretty early on. Had 2,000,000 and nothing to spend it on (and a full wallet) as most the signature weapons were still locked. Found all the masks, lost letters, most the propaganda posters, crafted all the bags, completed the tiger flying bit, only 1 journal entry to get and that is in one of the last campaign missions I guess. Going round completing the quests before finishing the campaign.

Yeah I bought the maps as my wallet can only take $2m so getting all the maps took some of the pressure away. :D

Some of the undiscovered locations and therefore treasure etc is high up in places that either the buzzer engine cuts out before you reach the height or there's simply nowhere convenient to land the buzzer so you either have to skysuit out or land the buzzer miles away and hike over if you're lucky and that's possible. :p

Running out of memory with 8gbs, do you really need 16gigs of memory for this?

Enjoying the game in general, looks lovely, the gameworld is wonderful, apart from the fifty eagle assaults, it's nuts, i fired a grenade at a truck and in between shots an eagle attacks me, it's so overdone. It's a shame as the animal attacks would be cool if they didn't happen every five minutes.
