Far Cry 4 due this November

1920X1080 at 120Hz
I thought I was at 1920x1200 but FC4 was at 1920x1080, I guess it won't let me run at my monitor's native resolution for some reason..

I tried dropping the game down to 1680x1050 and whilst the game ran a bit smoother, there were still moments of lag and the game still crashed. :D

I think everyone sees 'popping' when up in a buzzer even with top notch graphix because of the vast viewing area being constantly loaded, this effect might appear to be closer depending on the quality settings.

Farcry 3 graphix are like a cartoon compared to FC4 & as I still have it loaded on my PC so I compared the two, I'm impressed with things like like the trees shaking & flexing when you hover close & leaves ripping off if you touch the branches with the rotor blades & dust clouds when you take off.

yes but that's why it's killing many older rigs, because the graphics is so good, if you combine this with the movement of all the vegetation and the shadows as well, then you have a lot of stress on the PC !!!!!.........because not many shooters have the background scenary moving do they ......it's all concrete, bricks and steel

I'm torn between an i7 4790K or a 5820K for my CPU but I'm looking at the GALAX GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent from OcUK whatever CPU I end up choosing. I'm edging more and more to a 5820K so that I'm on a new upgrade path rather than get myself an i7 4790K and be at the end of a path that won't get anything new out for it.

for gaming only get the 4790k, the 5820 is for multi tasking and is no better for gaming, mine is either at 4.8 or 4.6 so it's pretty powerful, but the key is the SLI GPUs...............hell yea baby ;) because SLI gives you monster FPS straight away, plug and play !

you dont need anything more than mine for 1080p because many new games will be console ports at a frame capped 60fps, the only thing i might need to consider is a few more RAM sticks or maybe a GPU upgrade.

the next big PC build will be for 4K TV but i cant see that in the next two years.

Can anyone tell me why my game has begun to look rather rubbish when everything is on max settings? It wasn't like this before my OS SSD died last weekend, but i reinstalled my OS and other software onto my SSD and the game doesn't look the same anymore.

Specs: i5 3570k 4.4GHz, GTX 970 4GB on latest drivers.

I tried reducing some of the graphics quality settings from high to the next one down to see if that worked. Game crashed as per usual so I think that the game is so demanding that you need a really modern PC to be able to cope with it.

I know. My heart says get a 4790K but my head says it is more sensible to move to X99 and get a 5820K. I can't get over how much more energy the 5820K uses compared to a 4790K.

I don't do much rendering or Photoshopping but I am in the process of ripping my Blu-rays and DVDs to PC to save space in my room. I'm using MakeMKV and Handbrake for that and I've been told I should think about 5820K for that but, as I say, I want to get a 4790K. :o

Grab a 4790k, broadwell will be dropping this year so you have that to upgrade into if you wish. DDR4 is still expensive and doesn't provide anything over the Haswell line.

I'd either wait for broadwell or go Haswell now and go on with that.

I had another go at dropping the visual qualities, this time dropping the motion blur so it was off. It worked for a while and then crashed just as I was starting one of Hurk's mission. As I can't rely on the game to not crash my PC I'm kind of in limbo. I've liberated all the towers and bases in the first part of Kyrat and to break into the fortresses or northern Kyrat I need to do campaign missions to weaken the fortresses' defences. It's looking more and more like going round looting treasure, visiting mystery locations and such until I get myself a new PC.

That's what I want to do and am edging more and more towards a 4790K which will do me for a few years. My current CPU is an Intel Q9650 @ 3GHz so an Intel i7 4790K running at 4GHz stock with 8 threads compared to my 4 right now will blow my Q9650 out of the water. Yes, the 5820K might be better at multi-tasking and stuff like Handbrake but I don't think it would be better enough than a 4790K to justify the extra cost and, again, the extra power that it uses. The 4790K uses 88W, my current Q9650 uses 95W (so the 4790K is more efficient than my current CPU!) and the 5820K uses 140W! That's about 60% more than the 4790K. Madness! Perhaps when the new hex/octo core chips get to a better level of power usage I'll jump over. :)

Thread is TLDR.
Looking to buy this later.
Is it playing ok?
nVidia SLi profiles all good?
Reviews pretty well, but worth the cost?
What computer have you got? I assume/hope a decent modern PC? I would buy it but unless you've a decent setup you might have problems getting the game to run smoothly and/or without crashing.

PC is fine spec wise, so long as SLi runs ok on this game.

3930K @ 4.6Ghz
16Gb RAM @ 2133MHz
GTX690 @ 1006/1700
Gaming Res: 1920x1080
Gaming drive: 480Gb SSD

Had you previously patched Far Cry beyond 1.4.0? I found there was quite a drop in visual fidelity from 1.4.0 to 1.5.0/1.6.0 but the stuttering was gone as a result.

Yeah that'll run FC4 fine.

So i've lost my save game... that's ******* annoying..
What happened? Hasn't uPlay got it saved to the cloud? It could still be on your PC. Somewhere like:

Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\savegames\58bbd877-836e-4d00-afd6-ff9705fc4e2c\856

It might work if you cut the 856 folder and put it on your desktop, run FC4 to create a new savegame folder, exit FC4 and then move your original folder back. I had to do stuff like that when my savegame issues were frustrating me.

It's just the start bit i had to re-do. It didn't save. I've checked around and i've set FC4 to launch as admin, seems to have saved now, so all ok.

This game looks awesome. I have everything on Ultra with:
Soft Shadows
HBAO+
TXAA 2
Godrays - Enhanced

Cool. The Run as administrator does seem to help. Have you done that for the uPlay client as well?

Smug git! :D

Almost got this recently as its been cheap on sites like G2A etc (well, around the £20 mark) but been put off by some people having issues running it. Might wait a bit longer until it comes down in price more and has more patches released for it.

Plus I should actually finish FC3...and the rest of the mountain of unfinished titles I appear to have accumulated.
