Far Cry 4 due this November

I tried reducing some of the graphics quality settings from high to the next one down to see if that worked. Game crashed as per usual so I think that the game is so demanding that you need a really modern PC to be able to cope with it.

I know. My heart says get a 4790K but my head says it is more sensible to move to X99 and get a 5820K. I can't get over how much more energy the 5820K uses compared to a 4790K.

I don't do much rendering or Photoshopping but I am in the process of ripping my Blu-rays and DVDs to PC to save space in my room. I'm using MakeMKV and Handbrake for that and I've been told I should think about 5820K for that but, as I say, I want to get a 4790K. :o

yea because DAZ 3D Modelling really kills your rig, it's miles worst than gaming.......it's like running Prime 95, because for 3D Rendering/animation you really do need a monster Workstation, loads of graphics power

you will need to rebuild again for 4K.....so i would save your money and build similar to me.....but as said, the performance gain is definitely SLI

I used to have i5 2500 at 4.8......80 quid mobo and AMD 7990, that used to play FC3 easily.

an X99 will be the same speed as mine ( with mine on 4.8) but will be better for multi tasking, but not many of the 4770 CPUs go up to 4.8 or even 5.1 ;) because mine is heavily modded as is the Megahalems.... a standard 4770 might not get above 4.4

but around 4.8 although it's really fast, it crashes like crazy, as does the SLI...so the max reliable performance is back at 4.6, with the GTXs backed off as well.

basically you take the GTX 970 Strix up to max overclock before it starts crashing and then back it off to about 50%........... you loose about 10fps in Heaven well what........that's nothing

since i've detuned it, it's perfect and seems about the same performance as before  probably because it used to throttle right back quite some time before going Bluescreen without me noticing

even so, it feels twice as powerful as the i5/ 7990 rig and that was a damned fast too !!!!

Great, well looks like i'm not playing Far Cry 4 anytime soon.

Looked amazing before the 1.5 and 1.6 patches.

The only other thing I can think of that may help is deleting the GFXSettings.FarCry464.xml file and letting the game recreate it. This is in the \<user>\documents\My Games\Far Cry 4\<uplay id> folder, and if that was on the drive you reinstalled then probably won't help.

Although I felt 1.4 looked better than the subsequent patches, I found 1.6 at ultra with enhanced god rays and smaa was certainly acceptable.

Doesn't work unfortunately. Going to try a previous Nvidia driver.

Dropped some more settings including the AA and the fur/tree realism settings. Worked quite well but then I started the Shangri-La mission and that was going well until some tiger turned up on screen. PC crashed on that.

Your spec is fairly similar to what I'm planning. :) I'm edging more and more towards 4790K as I don't do rendering proper and a 4790K will blow my Q9650 out of the water anyway.

yes but that's why it's killing many older rigs, because the graphics is so good, if you combine this with the movement of all the vegetation and the shadows as well, then you have a lot of stress on the PC !!!!!.........because not many shooters have the background scenary moving do they ......it's all concrete, bricks and steel

Far cry 1 was the same. Few PCs could run it at max on release.

yea that'll be good, you'll notice a huge difference as well, it'll be miles faster

FC4 doesn't bother me because i hate the game period, i deleted it two weeks ago, i play FC3 instead..............FC3 is way better for snipering at extreme range, it's also great fun for using the Flame Thrower and laying road mines.

i found FC4 extremely annoying and irritating, in a similar way to Borderlands 2, where you have to play it 3 times over to get to Level 72.

give me a linear old school shooter any day....... just upgrade it to HD Standards

Finally finished this the other day, I really enjoyed it overall. Plenty of little annoyances design wise but I think I enjoyed it overall more than FC3.

If the next game is more of the same though I think I might give it a miss, it didn't feel like it had moved on a lot from FC3.

expecting a linear old school shooter on a free roaming shooter is plain crazy mate

yea, i'm playing Serious Sam 3 BFE and i'd say the graphics looks great, it's sharp and tidy and looks realistic, but it has no trick effects or fancy textures, because of this it runs beautifully, i'm getting over 200 fps

it's linear old school but it's deffo more fun, but the really important thing is it looks easily good enough and has no faults, the mouse spins beautifully.......... a real joy to play

FC4 needs everything backed off by 50% and it'll be a great game, because you walk along and there's 3 wolves, there's 4 cattle, an eagle, a tiger, another 3 wolves, bandits, cars, another 3 wolves..........bla bla bla

BUT, they've got the graphics quality perfect, it looks way better than the 1st Crysis and the guns are excellent too, they just need to tone down the maps and back off the wildlife and trees.......

Yeah I thought it looked great, and I must have been fairly lucky as it ran really well on my machine.

I put off buying this after reading people having troubles, especially with AMD cards, But mine runs Ultra Maxed out, very smooth with a 290X @ 2560 x 1080

A fantastic looking game, FC3 had a better story line to be honest, this seems to have a lack of story so far after playing a good few hours, but still worth a buy if you have the specs to run it on High or Ultra.

Also i'm running this off an SSD, the game loading screen is about 7 seconds which is great, not sure that's the same for all or not? lol

Hi all,

I pre-ordered FC4 months ago but haven't played it yet as I read there were/are issues with SLi setups. I'm now reading that the latest patches have reduced the graphics quality even on max, in order to reduce stuttering issues. Please can someone confirm if this is true? - I really want to play the game looking it's best and believe I have version 1.0 or maybe 1.1 pre-loaded on my PC.

Thanks in advance!

Working perfect for me on full ultra and sli 980s no stutter and the black shadow issue has been fixed (for me )

Managed to get through the first Shangri-La mission this evening. :) Rang the first bell which is half-way to getting me able to get two more skill upgrades. Need to see if re-playing captured bases will allow me to get the undetected score I need to enable the last 4 skill upgrades on the tiger side of things. Got 30+ skill points to use. :D

the Shangri-la missions are great but this needs to be part of the main game, the temples whatever are very well detailed and atmospheric, it's odd but the best parts of FC 4 are the crazy side missions......as was Blood Dragon with FC3

Ubi missed something here, it looks like they were scared to really let go and try something else.......... FC4 is a very simple game, it's not exactly Bioshock or Borderlands... it's level all the way through, always the same..

it has no Torgue or Tiny Tina attitude and madness in it, FC5 needs a good kick up the ****............add some mutants to it, a sort of DNA altered mutant island, a huge lunatic fun fair, twisted killer clowns....not sure, but definitely not like Dead Island, not easy is it !!!!

but what needs to go next time are the boring Radio masts, the silly enemy camps, the wandering around back and forth etc, it needs a massive airport, a big port, a large town, a huge mountain top castle and finally a large Research lab like FEAR 2, full of twisted mutants.
