Far Cry 4 due this November

To check what patch FC4 is on, look on the main screen in the bottom left. It should say 1.6.0.

So am I right in saying you can't actually start a new game? I've read in this thread a few pages back that those of us with 8GB of RAM or less are having problems.

Have you tried running both the uPlay and FC4 executables as administrator? See http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9564-run-administrator-windows-8-a.html for how to do this and the executables I've applied that to are
Code:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe"

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\FarCry 4\bin\FarCry4.exe" -skipintro
Apart from you running Windows 8 and having a 970 we seem to have similar systems. I've got an Intel Q9560 and an ATI HD7850 and FC4 will crash my PC every so often. The only thing I can do is to turn the PC off and back on. :(

Have you verified the FC4 game files? Run uPlay, click on the Games icon (top left) and then click on Far Cry 4. You'll get a Far Cry 4 page. Middle left will be a button saying 'Play Far Cry 4'. Click on the arrow and select 'Verify files'. See what that does.

Thanks mate, verifying the files worked perfectly and now the campaign loads no probs.

The game runs very slow though, just about playable but only just. Oddly enough I seem to get almost the same performance at all settings and resolutions with only minor framerate differences ie 20-30fps. Even running at 4k is almost the same framerate than at 1080p. Maybe, my cpu is holding everything back as we've seen other people are using q6600 with good performance?

Cool.

I've had to drop my resolution from 1920x1080 to 1650x1050 and then massively drop the graphics qualities and AA to get the game to run reliably. That's mostly because of a 6 year old Q9650 and a 2 year old HD7850. I'm surprised that with your 970 you are still getting slowdowns. It could be the CPU though that is slowing things down.

Have you tried latest drivers for graphics, sound, SATA etc just to make sure it's not a driver issue?

Thanks, that sounds about right then - I refuse to go below 1080p haha. I'm not getting slowdown as such, just a general low framerate between 20-30fps. Still playbable with the motion smoothing on the tv helping a lot, but obviously was hoping for more.

I'm not blaming the 970 for this, at the end of the day it can play it at 4k on high at those framerates which is pretty impressive to me, looks absolutely beautiful. Just find it odd that dropping to 1080p at high only gives me another 2fps and dropping all settings to low about another 3 fps, so all in a paltry extra 5 fps from 4k high to 1080p low!! Guess it points squarely to the cpu, just surprised I can't get it anywhere near 60fps no matter what I do.

I'd be interested to hear what settings the other q6600 user is using and what kind of framerates he's getting?

Haha, that is funny. Hope you get some info from another Q6600 and see what he's getting. :)

Use Afterburner if you still haven't had any luck.

Highly configurable to show much more on screen information such as Temps/Fan Speed/ CPU Temps / Utilisation etc.

Just a suggestion.
Will try that later tonight, thanks. :) I think dropping the anti-aliasing helped more than anything so I might see if I can get graphical quality back.

they're about to start FC5

it's on IGN, they're asking their fans what they want
Hmm fewer bugs out of the box? Whilst I like FC4 I prefer the setting of FC3 if only for the little islands and the massive water aspect to the game. A mix of FC3 location and scenery with FC4 scope (larger map) would be nice. I hope FC4 covers a larger area than FC3 now I've said that. :p

Just checked FC4 on Wikipedia, apparently it's the same area as FC3 but feels more densely packed.

How about a game that works straight outta the box and you don't get attacked by Eagles every 5 bloody mins :)
Come on. Be fair. It's every 4 minutes. :D

Lol yes your right

well i bet they know the game flopped or they wouldn't be asking the fans what they want to see next time, but this tells me they're trying to get the next game out too quickly as well.

after all, we haven't heard sod all yet about Dishonored 2 or Borderlands 3

FC3 is much easier to walk from the north to the south.........FC4 has very tall mountains blocking your way and is much denser...........FC3 looks very realistic but has a rubbish horizon, they've messed up the perspective, the vanishing point, the surrounding islands and the sea......the Isle of Wight casts no shadow at all.

but FC4 has the best graphics of any shooter, they just need to get it far more realistic... i just dont know how they got it so wrong

I'm starting to enjoy FC4.

Yes, it seems similar to FC3, but the graphical detail is higher and there's elephants !

Out of the box, it ran poorly on my machine (graphics settings on "High" + SMAA, stuttering and dropping below 60fps quite a lot). After the updates, and a few tweaks in RadeonPro, it's much smoother and maintains 60fps most of the time.

Game is 92% completed now for me apparently. Only thing left to do are those racing and filming missions.

32.6 hours played. Nice for a game that came free with my graphics card. Worth £20 I'd say if I had to pay for it.

Shame you can't go on Pagen Min's side. He is so much more fun than either of the 2 characters from the campaign. Should be able to join him and destroy the rebels :).

Is this kinda mediocre or is it just me?

I've been playing for a quite a while, just unlocked the north but the whole game feels a little ... standard. I mean, I've enjoyed it somewhat but it's not blowing me away.

It depends what you mean by standard, FC4 has a lot of unique elements but it depends what may or may not impress you, graphically the game is outstanding but probably not so much if you have to run it on low settings, the fauna & flora are superbly replicated, watch an Elephant or Rhino walking about & it's absolutely spot on as are most of the other animals, all the plants you take snippets off really do exist.

If you refer to gameplay as standard then yes I agree it does follow the pattern of some other FPS inc obviously FC3 but then again you can say that about just every other game that turn into a series inc COD, MOH etc. different location but same style of play with new additions

Have you been given access to more powerful weapons? I remember getting a message in game saying that when I entered the north there would be more powerful weapons made available to me.

FC5 needs to return home, a better version of FC3 but laid out similar to FC1........you cant beat a tropical paradise it's the best place to game, it's so lovely to walk through, it cheers you up whilst gaming

What tweaks are you using dervious?

Game is still a stuttery mess regardless of what settings I use in radeon pro and in game.
