A newer version of Far Cry 1 then?

To check what patch FC4 is on, look on the main screen in the bottom left. It should say 1.6.0.
So am I right in saying you can't actually start a new game? I've read in this thread a few pages back that those of us with 8GB of RAM or less are having problems.
Have you tried running both the uPlay and FC4 executables as administrator? See http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9564-run-administrator-windows-8-a.html for how to do this and the executables I've applied that to areApart from you running Windows 8 and having a 970 we seem to have similar systems. I've got an Intel Q9560 and an ATI HD7850 and FC4 will crash my PC every so often. The only thing I can do is to turn the PC off and back on.Code:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\FarCry 4\bin\FarCry4.exe" -skipintro
Have you verified the FC4 game files? Run uPlay, click on the Games icon (top left) and then click on Far Cry 4. You'll get a Far Cry 4 page. Middle left will be a button saying 'Play Far Cry 4'. Click on the arrow and select 'Verify files'. See what that does.
Cool. Thanks mate, verifying the files worked perfectly and now the campaign loads no probs.
I've had to drop my resolution from 1920x1080 to 1650x1050 and then massively drop the graphics qualities and AA to get the game to run reliably. That's mostly because of a 6 year old Q9650 and a 2 year old HD7850. I'm surprised that with your 970 you are still getting slowdowns. It could be the CPU though that is slowing things down. The game runs very slow though, just about playable but only just. Oddly enough I seem to get almost the same performance at all settings and resolutions with only minor framerate differences ie 20-30fps. Even running at 4k is almost the same framerate than at 1080p. Maybe, my cpu is holding everything back as we've seen other people are using q6600 with good performance?
Cool.

Have you tried latest drivers for graphics, sound, SATA etc just to make sure it's not a driver issue?
I don't know what FPS I'm getting, I enabled 'show FPS' in the XML file but it doesn't appear on the screen
Haha, that is funny. Hope you get some info from another Q6600 and see what he's getting. Thanks, that sounds about right then - I refuse to go below 1080p haha. I'm not getting slowdown as such, just a general low framerate between 20-30fps. Still playbable with the motion smoothing on the tv helping a lot, but obviously was hoping for more.
I'm not blaming the 970 for this, at the end of the day it can play it at 4k on high at those framerates which is pretty impressive to me, looks absolutely beautiful. Just find it odd that dropping to 1080p at high only gives me another 2fps and dropping all settings to low about another 3 fps, so all in a paltry extra 5 fps from 4k high to 1080p low!! Guess it points squarely to the cpu, just surprised I can't get it anywhere near 60fps no matter what I do.
I'd be interested to hear what settings the other q6600 user is using and what kind of framerates he's getting?
Will try that later tonight, thanks. I think dropping the anti-aliasing helped more than anything so I might see if I can get graphical quality back.Use Afterburner if you still haven't had any luck.
Highly configurable to show much more on screen information such as Temps/Fan Speed/ CPU Temps / Utilisation etc.
Just a suggestion.
they're about to start FC5
it's on IGN, they're asking their fans what they want
Hmm fewer bugs out of the box? Whilst I like FC4 I prefer the setting of FC3 if only for the little islands and the massive water aspect to the game. A mix of FC3 location and scenery with FC4 scope (larger map) would be nice. I hope FC4 covers a larger area than FC3 now I've said that.they're about to start FC5

Come on. Be fair. It's every 4 minutes. How about a game that works straight outta the box and you don't get attacked by Eagles every 5 bloody mins

Just checked FC4 on Wikipedia, apparently it's the same area as FC3 but feels more densely packed.

I've been playing for a quite a while, just unlocked the north but the whole game feels a little ... standard. I mean, I've enjoyed it somewhat but it's not blowing me away.
Have you been given access to more powerful weapons? I remember getting a message in game saying that when I entered the north there would be more powerful weapons made available to me.I've been playing for a quite a while, just unlocked the north but the whole game feels a little ... standard. Game is 92% completed now for me apparently. Only thing left to do are those racing and filming missions.
32.6 hours played. Nice for a game that came free with my graphics card. Worth £20 I'd say if I had to pay for it.
Shame you can't go on Pagen Min's side. He is so much more fun than either of the 2 characters from the campaign. Should be able to join him and destroy the rebels .
What tweaks are you using dervious?
Game is still a stuttery mess regardless of what settings I use in radeon pro and in game.
