Fidelity Super Resolution in 2021

It's funny seeing people who diss dlss 2.0 but not fsr.... Popcorn worthy that! ;) :D

It is funny seeing people bigging up FSR who were trashing DLSS for being Vaseline like and just upscaling we've had for ages, etc. while FSR is literally just upscaling like we've had for ages with some slight tweaks.

Can't say I'm overly impressed - the temporal upscaling in Quake 2 RTX at a performance uplift similar to balanced gives as good or better image quality as the ultra setting from the screenshots and video I've seen so far of FSR.

The only real knocks on dlss is from friends who play warzone and don't use it otherwise this thread has mostly been a dlss willy waggle about how fsr will be ****

Wasn't just meaning this thread - which I would have thought was obvious. Plenty of threads on these and other computer forums where [mostly] pro-AMD people have been trashing DLSS for ages now but going a complete 180 on FSR...

(Personally not a fan of DLSS myself but that is another story - I'm somewhat impressed by the Quake 2 RTX upscaling as it achieves results not far off DLSS without using any AI).

Alex from DF is Nvidia's bodyguard, he will notice right away the lower res ray traced reflections on the consoles or the lower quality of textures while moving on TSR. Only DLSS is perfect and most of the time better than native. And it still improves with each version. :)

Just tested FSR on Riftbreaker demo on my 3080FE. Pretty decent quality and a nice boost in fps. All settings were maxed out with RT enabled and VSR/CAS disabled. Not as bad as many resident Nvidia reps hoped it would be.

The game's time of day is constantly advancing so hard to take an identical shot.

Yes but it's the same everywhere. Children* who seemingly don't play many games and like to qualify their buying decision. Same with all the console wars. Personally for me all this be tech we have had in the last few years is like gaming nirvana to me. I will embrace fsr if it gives me a few more frames and extends the life of my 6800, although knowing me I will have moved on in year or two.

You do realise the 6900XT struggles to rise above 20FPS with RT?

FSR needs to improve RDNA2 RT or, as I said ~8months ago, AMD will hold PC gaming back.

6900xt is faster than 3090 so why buy slower?
anyone doing a closed of solution for gamers holds back gaming like Nvidia keeps doing, duh logic
you support the wrong team

jesus, the detail of nitpicking they did for FSR. crazy stuff. they didn't nitpick dlss like this never, ever...

What we are seeing is those who invested far too much time and energy being negative on FSR and presenting their opinion as "facts" being backed into a corner. Things like FSR doesn't use AI (like it matters how it does what it does). Or that DLSS is just as easy to implement as FSR, despite developers saying otherwise. They have no option but to ignore actual objective reviews and facts and stick to their "but DLSS" BS.

It's funny how quickly Digital "Sponsored by Nvidia" Foundry finds reasons to hate on AMD's efforts. Even though I've been harping on about things like a game's darkness showcasing DLSS better than it is (Control when it came out), or the added sharpening fooling people for how much of the gain is from the ML (which they added heavily for DLSS 2.0's launch, and some other things that boost perceptual improvements), or how The Division 2's "dumb" TAA reconstruction is at least on par with DLSS 2.0+, or... on and on it goes. And yet did we hear DF mention those things even once in their dozens of videos on DLSS? Of course not. Even worse Alex is a german and is well aware of computerbase & PCGH and they clearly showed DLSS 2.0 rendering some RT effects like reflections without reconstructing them - so how come this "RT aficionado" doesn't mention these things? Right, there's another Nvidia sponsorship on the horizon. What a pathetic channel.

They were Digital "Sponsored by AMD" Foundry when they were busting their nuts over Ratchet and Clank :p

Yup heres one :-

Well, just had a quick play on Godfall and took a few screenshots.

I have to say the performance increase is impressive, couldn't really tell any major difference on the Ultra Quality setting vs native and didn't notice any glaring issues at first glance when using Ultra Quality.

I will have a proper play and assessment on Godfall and Terminator resistance once I've finished work later today as I only turned it on, took some screenshots and ran around in a circle. :p

Some screenshots for comparison.

Is it safe to say that you think DLSS performance mode is not blurry then seeing as you keep bringing up a quote from a different thread and tagging me in ?

Do you also think that Ultra Quality FSR is blurry? Because that is not what end users and reviewers are saying. Perhaps you've tried FSR and can speak from experience?

Let's hear your thoughts, LoadsMoney, I suspect you have nothing but hot air. :p

The Digital Foundry review was brutal. I'm confused now. Even if they are correct it may still be good enough to achieve AMD's objectives and bring sorely needed competition to the market.

I don't play the games that are currently supported but from reading half a dozen articles and videos on FSR today, the 'Ultra Quality' setting looks very good for the bump in frame rate and minimal loss in quality. 'Quality' is barely acceptable, with the 'Balanced' and 'Performance' modes not looking that impressive.

I knew this wasn't going to be a realistic DLSS 2 competitor, and it isn't, especially on the lower quality settings, but the 'Ultra Quality' mode isn't half bad at all for a first effort.
It's going to become that by default since the community would treat it as such. It comes close to DLSS 2.0 rather than being barely better than DLSS 1.0. And the benefit of this is going to be huge for the masses. I think we sometimes forget that we are in a lucky category of people who are able to game on the latest gen GPUs and talk about minor IQ differences but most PC gamers do not have that luxury (even in normal market conditions). This is going to be a huge boon for them.

going by some of the reviews this is just the tip of the iceberg with more to come and maybe all the AI and deep learning to follow as part of a larger package
