The Digital Foundry review was brutal. I'm confused now. Even if they are correct it may still be good enough to achieve AMD's objectives and bring sorely needed competition to the market.
I don't think it was a brutal assessment but I think they did a good job in pointing out scenarios where it will or won't look better. Now I know people aren't happy at them talking about or highlighting the image quality differences in certain titles but that's what the review needs to do.
I will say it certainly looks like a nice bit of enhancement considering it can be used across different models/generation/manufacturers cards and one of the things to remember is when you're playing something are you really going to sit there and compare those still images. Yes there will be a loss of detail as you go down each step of the FSR settings but when in motion and playing a game, especially at a 4k resolution, it's going to be hard to notice in motion mostly at Ultra Quality for example.
I can see why this may well not be great at the lowest resolutions such as 1080p however and the drop off will become a bit more extreme in a way because it's working down to super low resolutions quicker.
End of the day, like DLSS it's the first iteration and it will improve over time no doubt but it's certainly seems like a solid first step. Just need to grow that library of supported games
