Fifa officials including vice president Jeffrey Webb arrested, Blatter getting it at last.

The President of FIFA just does not need the 'European' vote to be elected. Sepp has proven this .

This unfortunately there are a fair few countries some in europe also who dislike England US and the other western European countries that they will stick two fingers up to the west

It is interesting that only Europe seems to have an issue with this all though.

Bribe money going to the "poorer" FA's for votes.

FIFA should be reformed similar to the NBA/NFL and made a business. As such it will have to open its books and show where the money comes in and where it goes, this would be a huge step to eradicating corruption (you will never completely remove it but it opens up where the money comes and goes)

I mean at the moment it is supposed to be non-profit but made around 2 billion last year, where exactly does that money go? Where has it been going for years? Probably lining FIFA officials pockets looking at the sorry state of it now.

Whilst not foolproof bringing it all out in the day light will at least minimalise it and if it does happen make it a lot easier to trace.

Like Spain and France who voted for Blatter last week, baffling.

And if Europe chooses to leave what will they do then? Europe and the America supplies the cash and glamour teams. Nobody wants to watch a world final where it's Japan Vs Iran.

What?... Brasil V Argentina would be an epic final ;).

There are some excellent teams at International level not in Europe...:o.

Well Spain and France voted for Blatter so not sure all of Europe is with US

Maybe so but Freddie's point still stands. Without checking I'd be amazed if the TV rights from Europe don't dwarf the rest of the World and while there will be interest in watching a World Cup without the European sides, European broadcasters won't be bidding the mega money that they do with them.

There would be a market in Europe, agree it would not be as big potentially however there are still European countries that support FIFA and supported Blatter.

While the money would decrease potentially, that would not mean that absurd statements like a World Cup final of Japan V Iran would be nailed on. Absurd, two very average international sides ahead of the wealth of talent in South America.

He was obviously exaggerating to make the point that financially FIFA need Europe and they do. Without European sides TV rights and commercial income would be cut massively.

How big a commercial success in Europe is something like the Copa América? Even the Confederations Cup?

If you ignore the status, history and prestige (obviously the prestige and status would change slightly) of the World cup then they are comparable .

Not all of Europe are against FIFA, Russia, Spain etcetera voted for Blatter and Germany have said they are against a boycott.

The situation will never occur, in my opinion.

That's fair enough and a separate argument to questioning whether FIFA would be hit financially without Europe.

I agree, it's highly unlikely to happen but if it did then FIFA would be ****ed.

Why mention brazil and argentina though as South America all voted against Blatter, they hate him, they would more than likely boycott as well.

Vive la Japan v Aussie final

I don't think they'd be totally ****ed, but only if they could manage to hold on to sponsors, which looks increasingly unlikely (However that might have been a motivation as to why Blatter jumped).

IF Europe broke off (it will not happen), and they lost sponsors, then you're right FIFA would be up **** creek. In fact, surely they would become redundant? As AFC, CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, and UEFA could run themselves and organise competitions.

FOLLOWING his shock decision to step down as FIFA president amid claims of corruption, Sepp Blatter has challenged the FBI fraud squad to a penalty shootout in a bid to avoid further investigation.

The challenge, which would see the 79-year-old shoot it out in a best-of-five competition against some of the Federal Bureau’s top soccer players, is said to be the Swiss football administrator’s best chance to avoid a lengthy investigation into claims of widespread illegal activity within football’s governing body.

Blatter resigned this week after fourteen people were indicted in connection with an investigation by the FBI into allegations of bribery and fraud within the top ranks of the organisation.

Despite his resignation, he is still considered by the FBI to be a ‘person of interest’, prompting him to state he will do his “talking on the pitch” before throwing down the penalty shoot-out challenge.

“Blatter is 79, and Swiss, but he’s still a better player than anyone in America,” said Juan Pablo Veronesque, who does a few care-taking nixers around FIFA HQ every now and then.

“He’ll also be doubling up in goals as well, but even with that he should be ok. He’s gotten away with claims of corruption and foul play up until now, so I can’t see something like the biggest scandal to ever hit football bringing him down now. 5-3 to Sepp, easy”.
