FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

I'm hoping they lose to Costa Rica too now to emphasise the scale of the problem!

I'm glad we're out now rather than limping along for another week as if we deserve a chance at qualifying.

There's something fundamentally wrong that we cannot put a solid team togethor that work as a group that look like they understand how to play togethor.

Or maybe the England players are just overrated?

The results are no more than I expected. Both Italy and Uruguay have better players than England.

Harry? People only take the job because it's a huge pay packet.

Harry would be far more entertaining than Wroy, even if the results were no better. He's also a lucky manager, and you need luck to win tournaments.

I don't think there's many manager that would take the job. I guess we're stuck with Hodgson.

You know in Germany you don't mention the War, Well in England you don't mention the ******* Football. :p

Yes I laugh at my own jokes. :D

But but but 1966, 1966 1966 1966! Or 1866 or 1566 it may well have been for all it matters.

Average team at best.

Yep, there are some good players in the squad, but the squad as a unit is average at best. Especially at the back.

Harry is bit limited in the tactical side of things imo.

Bring back the old limitations on foreigners in the Premier League, all will be well again and we will miss a place in the final on penalties to the Germans. :p

Don't see it making a huge difference, sure the players we had might not be the most amazing but there was certainly enough there to work with to make it out the group at the very least even if not enough quality to get much further.

I doesn't matter which manager you have. I prefer Roy over Harry. When thinking of the England football team I always think of a saying my Dad used to say to me.
'You can't polish a turd'.

Excluding the fact that Rooney the "star" could have us on 4points if he'd finished more than one of his stupidly easy chances.

People are acting like England were awful, they were meh, but Italy were meh as well. England had chances, almost every one of the best chances fell to Rooney and now we're out.

He's one of the least fit, least caring, most money grabbing players around. This is a guy who missed a decent portion of the season 2-3 years ago because he was sent to fat camp at what, 27 or something. Because he still isn't professional enough to be ready for the start of the season. Then he cries and whinges and threatens to leave every couple of years while failing to shine. Scoring a few mostly simple goals against mostly crap opposition. He's done exceptionally well in his career to end up where he has money/club wise, because he hasn't deserved it in the slightest. That England start him is laughable.

Quite simply not true. He put his fair bit in training before the world cup and during it doubling up in some sessions at his own request. At Utd Muellensteen said him, Giggs and Ronaldo was always the last off the pitch but of course you can call him a liar on that. But hang on Stewart Pearce said the same this week, as has Fergie said the same thing on many occasions. So they must be liars

At Utd hes had one poor pre season where he returned unfit out of how many ???? But as a match going Utd fan you already know this of course.

People might take you more seriously if you talked less self indulgent crap

Scotland have a population of 5m, have a league made up of mostly Scottish players and can't get into a major tournament. Clearly the number of foreigners in the league isn't the only issue.

I disagree on the Rooney subject. I think he is the closest thing we have to a "star" player.

My wife asked me a few days ago who our "best" player was and I honestly couldn't give her an answer! Rooney's record in major tournaments is abysmal performance-wise and goals-wise!

He is a striker, expected to score goals, which he should have done with the header from 1 yard and the chance inside the 6-yard box! Simply not good enough!

I'm sick to death of every single team in the world knowing how to play well against England - pressure!

If you pressure England, even in the slightest, we panic and lump the ball up front and lose possession!

If you are going to end up doing that, at least get a couple of target men up front who can hold up the ball and bring the attacking midfielders and wingers into play - yes that's right, I said wingers! - don't try and be Brazil or Germany with fluid attacking and possession football when we simply don't have the personnel.

Play to your strengths - we don't have many but at least use the one's we do!

I might take you more seriously if you ever posted anything remotely relevant.

Because he potentially does more training sometimes... what, actually explain how this disproves what I was getting at, or even argues against it? Smoking, coming back fat to the degree that he got paid to go to fat camp instead of play football. Why is he training longer? Why is he bigger than he needs to be, why has his form dropped significantly in the past few years?

Training longer, while not actually obtaining the same results as Ronaldo/Beckham did from training longer means? Beckham did extra training, was in peak physical condition and became a dead ball expert. Ronaldo does extra training and is one of the most ridiculous specimens of manhood in football AND he's currently the best footballer in the world.

Rooney does extra training and.... misses a bunch of sitters, gets fat in the off season. Please try and post something that adds to the discussion, what do you think doing extra training indicates. Is he doing extra technical training, if so it's really not working. Is he doing extra physical/fitness training, again why, is it because he eats poorly and thus REQUIRES more fitness work? He did extra training sessions coming in to the world cup, wow, so? Firstly as above, secondly at the end of a season he still isn't fit, he's still struggling and requiring more training than everyone else. Over training going into a sports competition is a bad thing, not a good thing. It means you end up more tired than those who didn't need the extra training to start with.

Here's a hint, if he was more professional, got into peak condition, lost a bit of weight, kept his shape in the offseason, he wouldn't require trips to fat camp, he wouldn't require more training than other players, this would leave him fresher in actual games. There is ZERO sign from his extra training that he is technically better than anyone else, nor fitter than anyone else. The logical conclusion is that he's doing it to get to the same levels others achieve, which indicates he's doing something wrong elsewhere to me.

Well we have one last game against Uruguay to play, play like we did today and we might be joining u guys going out in the group stages..... That would be quite a disaster if we went out in the group stages in consecutive World Cups.

Speaking about England i would have liked to see more of Lallana play for England he is a good all round player and think Rooney should have never played the first game on the wing and wouldn't have bothered playing him in the second match. Would have rather seen Sterling stay central rather than being pushed out on the wing to put Rooney back in the centre.

Yes but it's someone to blame at least heh?

Can't get a job, blame foreigners!
Can't play or win a football match to save your life, blame the foreigners!

England = Average football team with huge egos. Trust me, a lot of people is dissapointed that we lost in the group stages. They've been waiting 4 years to see us crash and burn on penalties in the last 8 and have a good laugh about it.

Now we can't even get out of the group stages.

Not really Rooney's fault he has been dubbed as some sort of savior of English football since he burst on to the scene... He was hailed as the 'next Pele' but in actual ability terms he probably compares more realistically with someone like Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink... Doesn't make him a bad player at all (just like old Jimmy) and he is a decent international, but unfortunately nothing more.

Can England even beat Costa Rica?

Well off course the media would think so, while in REALITY it's going to be a very very tough task. Unless they take pity on us and rest key players to be fresh and ready for the real important matches. Even then we'll still probably find a way to lose it.

The first 70 minutes of the Uruguay game was one of the most depressing things I've ever watched, was like watching a fly constantly bumping against a window trying to get out - that is litterally the level of management retardation involved.

Any manager worth a **** would have been on their feet there on the sidelines trying to change things up by 20-25 minutes into that game not sitting there looking glum.
