Final Fantasy VII - "Remake"

If there is a new combat system then it must use Materia is some form or other because it's a vital part of the storyline and game world.

Have to remember, the PS4 image is cinematic and doesn't represent in game quality.

As I said in the PC thread,

I have a feeling it will not only be a remake but a re-imaging with a modernised fighting style based on FF7's turn based system. I can also imagine new content will be added and hopefully they will include all the lore that's been released in the FF7 universe like Crisis Core.

The voice cast I've got a gut feeling the cast from Advent Children will reprise their roles.

I welcome this, as they can never recapture FF7 and make it stand up now. As the director had said a few years ago they would be too tempted to change elements of the game or remove and tweaks parts and how different they feel about making the same game again and how they might differ.

Where is this idea of modernising the combat system coming from? Has there been something cryptic dropped from SE or is this just peoples preferences/ideas?

I dont see a win-win if SE start tinkering with FF7 as I doubt most people that want the remake require such changes. Worried that SE are mad enough to do it and say 'tough' tbh <insert evil laugh>...

I dont see this game existing before 2018 and that kinda sucks

ps3ud0

Fuuuuuuuuuu - just watched the trailer again and got some mad tingles.

The voiceover is sending a pretty clear message to me - that although FF7 is coming back, people need to try to enjoy it for what it will be rather than be bitter about what it won't be and was never going to be. That, to me, means that changes are going to be made that will upset some, but please others. All they're saying now is that yes, they are committing to remaking that world in some respect.

As feared, it seems the remake is not what we were made to believe it is :(
When asked if the remake, in development for PlayStation 4, will follow the Final Fantasy VII narrative exactly or feature new elements, director Tetsuya Nomura gave GameSpot an ambiguous answer.

“We’ve announced an HD port version on the PlayStation 4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4,” Nomura said through a translator. “You’ll have this extremely, very, very pretty FFVII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, it’s like, why have the same exact game?

“We think that if a game is on a certain platform and that platform becomes obsolete, then we’d recommend playing the new port version,” he added.

I've got a sneaky suspicion that this isn't quite going to be the second coming as everyone thinks it is. It'll be a very "Advent Children" styled game that will focus on select elements of the original story but with massive differences in its direction and gameplay. I would put money on them skipping entire chapters of the game and making it much tighter in terms of story telling.

I'm still excited for whatever it turns out to be, but after being trolled and baffled by SE over the years... I'm glad I didn't allow myself to go full retard while watching the trailer :o

I vaguely remember reading an article from square saying they won't ever remake FF7 unless they feel like they can't ever make anything better.

Am I making this up?

IIRC.. they said they will not be re-making 7, until a newer game has surpassed it, in sales and in popularity.

If that happens, **** them.

Super excited to see what they do with it, but I'd be very cautious about having any expectations.

However, I personally am quite happy to still play the original (or the HD port now) so they can't 'ruin' it like some may suggest. The original will still exist so I'm just happy they are giving it a go. It could be the most amazing thing ever in the last 15 years of gaming, or it could be utter garbage - but i'll be there trying it.

If nothing else, it'll be awesome to fully explore the world and the areas with the stunning graphics etc. So worst case it'll be a fun nostalgic exploration game! lol

I just want the battle system to stay the same. 3 characters vs the enemy. turn based, random battles, limit breaks, levelable materia etc.

but deep down i know it will be changed to cater for the newer/younger audiences used to the mechanics of the newer titles. bummer. (to be honest, the battle system went down the pan after 10/X, which was the last decent battle system)

I wasn't bothered with any game I'd seen at E3 until this was announced. Crazy stuff.

I have such memories of this that I don't really know how I feel about a remake. on one hand I am excited as hell that I'm going to see it with modern graphics and sound.

On the other hand I am very wary that they will change some things and lose the whole essence of the game.

Is it going to be a literal carbon copy but with shiny graphics? Or will they modernise the battle system etc? Will they include voice acting? Too many questions...

Might have to break out the original to celebrate lol.

I suspect the cartoony look will go, and some of the charm with it. It's risky, but also pretty exciting. This is FF7 for a new generation of gamers and elements are bound to be different.

My favourite is FF6 and I wouldn't like a current remake of that, but FF7 should lend itself better to a revamp.
