Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

All EU servers are full to me and i can't seem to make any characters on any of the US servers. oh well. :(

edit: actually i can't seem to make a character on any server even EU.

edit: logged out completely including the launcher and now it works.

Had the same issue yesterday when I tried to make my char around 7pm. Servers were getting slammed and I guess they still are. I was creating a char on Cerberus and it was down, tried again 30 minutes later and it was up. Had to restart the launcher to get it to work though, would allow me in through character creation then wouldn't allow me to create it saying it was full.

TL:DR - Restart your launcher once the server you want is up.

Not sure how i feel about the game so far. I've only gotten to level 10 and while i'm enjoying the art and especially the sound effects triggering memories of FF on playstation 1 (i think, can't really remember lol) it seems much like any other MMO i've picked up and thrown away over the past few years.

I read it gets better after level 15 and you get away from the starter stuff though so i'll give it a good play through tomorrow before i decide whether they get my pennies.

game is like £13 to pre order if it is not too late. that includes 30 days free afaik, pure bargain and props to them for not charging the world for the standard edition.

bit disappointed with the lack of voice acting but i assume thats to do with the fact my PC wants to free up 20g of space but the client uses 8g, thats a big difference and could well be voice acting that is not enabled yet.

game is a generic tank/heal/dps MMO but for some reason I like it. maybe it's to do with the fact its a final fantasy MMO or maybe its because of the trash (except gw2) that has been released lately.

Anybody else having issues with the launcher and just giving a black screen? Tried each beta phase and still same problem (downloaded newest cilent each time)

Got it to work on PS3, but world looked like crap and can't really play a MMO with a gamepad

I'm getting the same vibe. They even stated that they've taken inspiration from popular mmo's this time around and it shows. Rift did a similiar thing, and overall made a very good mmo but it just never kept my interest because it felt like a manufactured mmo for the sake of doing it. Whereas FF has history and feels like FFXIVARR has kept to its roots, with the music, art style, skills, lore etc. and that gives it a personalty that games like Rift lacked for me.

Loving this game so far! I didn’t play that much during Phase3, as I hate the idea of losing progress, but phase4 was a completely different story! I’ve managed to get Gladiator, Marauder, Conjurer, Lancer and Archer up to 20 already! Really enjoying all the classes so far!

Started on Moogle (EU) and have got a LS going with around 30 members from across various MMOs that we’ve played in the past (FFXI, WoW, Swtor & Tera). Looking to make this into a FC once we get on at release. The group of people is generally aged between 18-45 and is mostly made up of hardcore players with a couple of casual friends. The aim to be competing for server firsts in terms of raid bosses etc when they become available. If anyone is interested in joining let me know and we’ll get you an invite.

And I thought I'd played it a lot this weekend :o

Archer is level 17. Thaumaturge is level 15. Conjurer is level 12. Marauder is level 7 (started it last night cos I needed to clear out all the starter quests in Limsa :p). Also my Culnarian is level ~13 and Botanist is ~12.

Enjoying it so far. Absolutely crippling myself for inventory space though now. I need to get rid of some stuff but I just can't bring myself to get rid of most of it cos I'll use it as a crafter or something. /hoarder

Haha. Also managed to push Puglist to 15 before finally going to work!

I’m having a nightmare with m inventory too, I’ve not sold a thing since I started and have so many weapons and armor in my armory. I’ve had to start dropping stuff from my armory into my inventory in order to keep a hold of everything. Obviously, this is just making my inventory full!

I want to keep all the armor so that I can turn them all into material once I get to that point in the story. I really don’t want to sell it all for gil when its worth so much more as materia!

I've not done any of the crafting/gathering yet - how quick are those to level?

I leveled mining from 1-18 yesterday. It was...let's just say not anywhere near as pleasant as leveling your DoW/M. It was partly my fault, since I used up all my leves getting my gladiator to 20, so since there are only story quests at 1, 5, 10, 15 you have to just grind for the intermediate levels.

If you are planning to level a gathering class, set aside a day or so to do it, so that you can save up leves in advance.

I played the previous FF MMO - really enjoyed the game in general but thought that the UI was buggy/laggy and levelling up was very samey. (Kill X of this every day to complete quests etc)... is this any different? .. save me reading through the entire thread on my break!

One thing I did enjoy from the last game was the gathering/crafting experience. though that was excellent!

Are you on about FFXI or FFXIV v1.0?

Really enjoyed the weekend open beta, can't wait for the headstart. Ended up with my main as a lv20 LNC/lv15 MRD/lv 5 PGL.

Really enjoying Lancer, requires a bit of movement and as such feels a bit more active, good set of abilities at lv20 and works well in group and solo. MRD is also great, makes tanking feel far more fun than a standard sword/shield class. Haven't really played PGL enough to have an opinion. I actually really like the mix of Quests and Fates for general leveling.

Haven't touched any of the crafting/gathering jobs yet, going to explore those during the head start time I think.

Only got a chance to play the first Dungeon, Sastasha, found it fairly generic and horrifically easy (3 manned it twice with no tank) but reasonably enjoyable, good intro to group play really. Unfortunately 30+ minute queues for DPS means I never got a chance to try Tam Tara, when I got MRD to 15 I did Sastasha once and had a queue time of proximately 15 seconds so yeah, seems to be a massive lack of tanks at the moment (which is why I leveled MRD).

Kept forgetting to play the Beta, had it during about 3 tests :o. Anyone know if they'll do a free trial? Seems a bit steep buying the game and membership only to find out I don't like it.
