Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn

do'h! forgot to restart my client download the other day. So the early access is scheduled for 10:00am on Sat ? gives me two days to download it on my super fast 200kbs pipe :(:p

Well it's still just 7 gigs ATM - interestingly they put up a new launcher today which I just d'led - you can now do all the normal sign up stuff for the game, signing licence agreements etc. but there is no new patch (BTW the launcher has been down since Monday so you wouldn't have been able to carry on anyway).

Just redeemed my code and downloading the game, I always tank in MMO's as you can hold the party together, and getting into parties is easier, i'm wondering if this will be the same with FFXIV.

What server are you guys starting on?

7gigs is easily doable before Sat but I just know there wil lbe a day one pre-launch early access couple of gigs patch just to bitchslap me in the kipper :p

As a complete FF newb I'm currently reading up on the class system, I prefer ranged so anything with a bow or waggle stick should suffice.

Is 'moogle' still the server destination of choice for most ?

Good choice Irish - after level 15 you'll be in massive demand - there's a shortage of tanks ATM (isn't there always in an Holy trinity game).
I'm on Moogle but might transfer off depending how the next couple of weeks go - I was on Shiva for P3 and liked the community but heard a lot of UK players were going to Moogle so thought I'd give it a try but can't say I liked it much over the weekend.

I rolled on Odin during the open beta weekend as it was mentioned in this thread a few times. We should probably all head to one server, i don't mind rerolling if need be as i only got to 16 on Conjurer. I have no idea how others managed to get all classes to 20 last weekend, i was too busy sticking my nose into everything i saw lol.

Good choice

Warrior it is then, just read the comparisons between warriors and paladins, warriors getting the raw deal on a few abilities, but handling additional mobs better and holding hate on these better than paladins.

They are harder to play but that's what will make it more fun, ill role on any server that the majority of you guys are playing on, unlike WoW, none of my friends are buying this, so ill be on my own, and I'm seriously sick of WoW now.

Game download just finished, was expecting it to be crazy slow due to the early access demand, well played SE.

I'm going to play an healer this time round - either Summoner or white mage - not sure which yet - I prefer DPS but levelling is going to be much easier on a class that's in demand (but since I'm 20, 20 17 ATM for the casting classes I can slot in wherever needed once I get a guild / proper group set up.
I was a main tank for several years in WoW and really enjoyed it but I find it a bit stressful if that's all I do but I might make my 4th class a warrior or more likely start an alt because I think it's going to be real slow levelling 4 classes without quests (though healer and tank can live in dungeons 27/ 7 if they want).

I tried Moogle for the same reasons, but it was full of people speaking in French a lot of the time, so i moved to Odin which had everyone speaking in English.

I don't really care where people are from, i just want to be able to communicate with people. :P
