Finally the Jeremy Kyle show has been axed, 14 years too late.

I've not seen Jeremy Kyle but I've seen chat shows like Trisha and Oprah where they discuss relationship problems, porn found on partner's computer etc.

I think this has come about because mental health is a much bigger issue now than it was 10 or 20 years ago. The wider TV industry is now also under scrutiny.

This should have been axed years ago, shame it took someone to die to make it happen!!

Glad I’ll never see this during the day again as the other half has it on sometimes

Thing is, people like the show. If the after care was there then I don't have a problem with the show.

I've only watched it once, and never again. But if it entertains some people why not?

Everyone that goes on knows what the show is about. Some might be too stupid to realise some people are laughing at them...but does that matter?

Hasn't Love Island resulted in more ..
being mercenary - that kind of programme is probably doing more damage to adolescents->young adults, in terms of body image problems and related health issues it creates,
even if the contestants are not the sharpest tools. ... so there should be some navel-gazing/introspection across all channels.

these kind of programmes are probably the analogue to soft drinks, confectionary abuse, say ?

we're only copying the USA with these kind of shows (is/was that oprahs' thing) so they must have had similar incidents we should have learned from.
... gun ownership in the post show cocktail too.

All over the world...
Please don't speak for me.
If an audience wants to watch it then let them, it's not for me but then again I watch football or Attenborough documentaries which others loathe.
Instead of being a child about it just switch over.
Oh chill your beans old man lol. If you like the show then knock yourself out. I’ve only ever watched a few shows and found it morally reprehensible as a whole...hilarious but such gutter trash tv.

But I am not speaking for you, unless somewhere in my opening post I said I speak for sexygreyfox??

Is there any evidence that the show was in any way responsible for the guys death except that he appeared on it? The whole thing Seems to be a huge knee jerk reaction

I appreciate the Lord of the Rings quote, I'd definitely be more reserved in handing out death, I don't think the chap who killed himself deserved to die; but equally I don't think telling a cheater/drug dealer that they're a bit of a scum bag is the worst thing in the world.

There is no proof he was cheating, Jeremy just fooled the gullible audience and guests with "lie detector" evidence in order to make his show more dramatic, classic exploitation of everyone involved.

A trashy show in the same vein as Jerry Springer so ultimately damn entertaining.

However bad you felt your life may be.... you could just tune in and watch an apocalypse now scenario unfold in front of your eyes and immediately have a different perspective.

A knee jerk reaction for sure by ITV but I suppose this was always on the cards. You invite mentally unhinged subnormal inbreds onto your show and ask them to open the book on their life... It was inevitable that someone would eventually do this.

Graham failed to do his job with after show care.

sounds like the demographic of the spectators ? the same people who would turn up in the middle ages for the public hanging;
... further back - did the many spectators at the colliseum turn up to show political allegiance, rather than enjoyment.

Summed up how I feel about it pretty much, bar 1 issue:

The chap knows the format, he went on there willingly. No one is forced.

devils advocate and all that.

I'd agree with this except for 2 points.

1) It is heavily implied, in every relevant show that the lie detector is infallible. If you were telling the truth why wouldn't you go on, if you're the type of person who likes the show?

2) The show makes a huge point about the quality of their after care team, the reports from ex-contestans seems to suggest that the aftercare for the more sympathetic pieces e.g. I've come here to find my estranged partner, or I want to get off the smack and need rehab seems to be good. It's reportedly a phone call saying "how are you? Not good? I suggest you pick yourself up and move on." For everyone else.

I suppose my issue is that in this day and age do we really need a show that is predicated around laughing at people who are less fortunate, less well educated, poorer than the rest of us? If the good stuff they do (rehab, reuniting families etc) works as a format then do that and cut out the rest.

I have to say the wife used to put it on for half hour in the morning, I'd moan and tell her to change it but I also found it strangely compelling. I'm glad it's gone.

Why hasn't Love Island been cancelled? I demand it be cancelled. Two people have died because they went on it.

Why? I dunno, let's call it racist (even though it isn't), that's how this all works isn't it?

I've got a dangerously increasing level of cynicism for the world I live in. It's ****ed. But I can't decide what's better, these shows actually existed, and ran for years, or that they are only now being cancelled for crap reasons. I've realised I don't actually care, I have nothing to contribute.

Nothing to contribute ?
But I'd say you sum up my thoughts exactly
