Finally the Jeremy Kyle show has been axed, 14 years too late.

There is no proof he was cheating, Jeremy just fooled the gullible audience and guests with "lie detector" evidence in order to make his show more dramatic, classic exploitation of everyone involved.

I know polygraph tests can't be used as evidence in court, but they're a pretty damn good indicator

It’s sort obvious with hindsight but it’s really was a horrible show wasn’t it. Sad that it took a death to end it.

Tragedy porn :/

No they literally aren’t.

It’s merely a tool to goad answers out of dumb/predictable/gullible people. You could do the same thing with being a priest and a confession chamber as the tool.

I am not a fan of wholesale censorship, thousands of guests over the years and that fact that as far as we know just one guest on the Jeremy Kyle show has topped themselves is a pretty good indicator that there isn't a massive problem here.

Does the show have a duty of care to ensure that its guests have some element of stability in their life before they air? Sure

However as others have said this guy knew what the was getting himself into. Its not as though this is the first time a show has used a lie detector. Its usually this or a DNA test daily on the show!

The show would have paid his transportation costs, given him a few basic expenses, put him up in a decent hotel, its basically a chavvies day out!

The problem is that the show relies upon shock tactics to get its viewing figures. Failed lie detectors, unpredicted DNA results followed by people going ape ****. It's the USP.

So yes, sooner or later it was going to happen.

However....in my opinion its not the show's fault.

In this current age though its not the 'done thing' so put any form of responsibility on the victim. No its cant possibly have been that fact that he was a nut job and was probably one sad movie away from putting a gun in his mouth, it has to be the show for broadcasting his life going into freefall.

I actually don't think you know a single thing about polygraph tests if I'm being honest

It’s not personality neutral, completely missing entire swaths of people with personalities that care little for falsification or have zero emotional response to the situation.

The fact you can ‘beat it’, means it’s utterly flawed and why it’s not used in court.

If it were actually valid they’d use it.

Polygraph tests are are not real science, it's not supported by hard evidence.

"Polygraphs measure arousal, which can be affected by anxiety, anxiety disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), nervousness, fear, confusion, hypoglycemia, psychosis, depression, substance induced states (nicotine, stimulants), substance withdrawal state (alcohol withdrawal) or other emotions; polygraphs do not measure "lies". A polygraph cannot differentiate anxiety caused by dishonesty and anxiety caused by something else."

A poly will measure anxiety, which would you believe it could be caused by the act of simply being accused of a crime. If a random person got accused of being a pedophile would it be an indication of guilt that they find the situation stressful & anxiety inducing?.

Yorkshire and proud of it!
This isn't something I've been following closely, so has it emerged yet whether he was actually cheating on his partner or if he appears innocent. Only it seems slightly odd if someone believed the polygraph worked, that they'd agree to it if they were guilty. Seems more likely an innocent person would agree to it thinking it would clear them.

I hated the show, it felt like it genuinely hurt my soul that it (and Jerry Springer etc before it) were so popular but the sudden media feeding frenzy is disgusting.

When the media have done exactly the same thing in the past. The media in this country is shocking.

Oh chill your beans old man lol. If you like the show then knock yourself out. I’ve only ever watched a few shows and found it morally reprehensible as a whole...hilarious but such gutter trash tv.

But I am not speaking for you, unless somewhere in my opening post I said I speak for sexygreyfox??

Finally ITV have axed the despicable show that we all know and loathe in equal measures..

You said it, it's there in bold.
I don't loathe it because I haven't seen enough of it to loathe it and make that judgement.

Like I said it's not my cup of tea but I've got a trick I use in my house that I will share with you - it's called switching the channel over to something else.
You can even put things like Netflix on because you don't have to watch stuff you don't want to watch.
Absolutely no need to put down other people's viewing habits when you learn that simple trick.

Can't say I'm sad it's being dropped, the show was absolute tripe.

Tbh I thought the guests were actors, could never bring myself to belief people are actually like that but guess I've just had a sheltered life.

I do know two local families who have been on, I didn't see the episodes but my daughters told me both were for real.
One was for a DNA test.

When you see the type of people who post in here and on Facebook I'm not surprised that it's for real the majority of the time.

I caught an old Jerry Springer show a while back. He's a real class act compared to JK. He never said a single negative thing on the show and just stood back and watched the firework's.

Lol ok let me explain it again to you as it seems you are a bit special when it comes to reading a post. In my original post did I say anything about you?? YOU?? Did I mention your name?? you are the only one who has taken issue with what I originally posted.

Like I said chill out, don’t make this about you. It has absolutely nothing to do with you, it was a light hearted comment about the show. As shown in here, not many are fond of the show.

You can insult me by calling me special but you are the one who grouped us all together.
Why don't you go back and edit your post to read 'some of us know and loathe' instead of 'we all know and loathe', that will work and you don't have to group me in with your nonsense.

Yeah it's pretty dumb people wanting a TV show cancelled because they don't personally like it, why even make a thread about a TV show you don't watch? Why even care? It's just virtue signalling
