Finally, we're getting FTTP, woo-hoo! (it was installed in June 2024)

Still waiting for my FTTP installation by Openreach. I see on better rollout map my property shows as 10-14 Oct , does that mean that they had to get permission from the council to work on the property and that's the date range it should happen?

Quoted as I agree with this. Top support (when needed), no issues with reliability of network compared to the up/down nightmare with VM

I am also using both Aquiss OR based FTTP and VM so I have redundancy. After about 18 months of Aquiss and many years of VM I have (surprisingly) had fewer service interruptions and general issues with VM than Aquiss so its area dependent and I've avoided the awful VM support for some years.

As an aside I think these days more people should be looking at two providers where possible and potentially sacrificing fastest tiers on each if required to keep the cost down. With an appropriate router/firewall you can still make use of both but failover whenever required.

There are very few situations where two connections is going to cost less than a single fast connection from one provider, especially as things are priced to tempt you up the service tiers as the costs to the ISP really don't increase that much. The entry price for FTTP is around £25 so to have two connections is going to come in somewhere between £50-£60 each month and you might get a couple of 150-300Mbps products for that, when for less money you could be on a gig.

Unless the uptime is absolutely critical (and you've addressed all the single points of failure within your house) you're probably better off saving the money and allocating it to a larger data bundle on your phone if you need to tether for a couple of days, or picking a service with a 5G failover as part of the package.

I didn't mention I also have 4G for my third WAN and multiple UPS devices and a generator :D

Signed up to EE FTTP on 26Sep and still not installed. Phoned them on Friday and they said Openreach has to do external works.....no date given.
What are my options, complain to EE?

What confuses me about the roll out of ultrafast full fibre is that where my house is I can get 900Mbps and Openreach's site says up to 1600Mbps is available yet just a short walk across town the limi is 70Mbps with an expected upgrade on Openreach's website of between now and December 2026! Is there really such a chasm in Internet access speeds between parts of a small town?

For 3 years 50 yards away from me
Had virgin fibre
I had no fibre at all
It's like rain can rain on you but not 100 yards away
Bad analogy really
But yeah it's possible
The people who plan it are considering various factors
That we aren't aware of to decide their roll out

It's bizarre isn't it? I've been with Aquiss since March 2023 when I was able to move over. I'm just confused that nearly 18 months later another part of town, just a few minutes walk away, is still limited to 70Mbps broadband. I would love to understand the reasoning behind Openreach's rollout plan for my town.
