New toy

Ohhhh that’s purdy!! What size batteries and how long you get outta them??

The dawning realisation of how much wood I now have and lack of storage led me to a master plan, now signed off by Mrs TB.

Phase one is moving the current largest store ....

IMG20230422090427.jpg

The problem being it was full, so ...

IMG20230422093409.jpg

Emptied it and dumped the logs on the drive

IMG20230422094405.jpg

Dragged the store to the end of the drive

IMG20230422094414.jpg

Cleaned up where it was

IMG20230422095017.jpg

IMG20230422100847.jpg

Filled the store back up

IMG20230422122814.jpg

And shifted the recent delivery to the side of it

IMG20230422125252.jpg

IMG20230422125258.jpg

Gonna measure up this afternoon and build a new store (bigger) in the space this one has just come from:D

Cracked on / started the new log store

Detailed plans and ingredients

IMG20230429081741-01.jpg

Selection of tools and what not at the ready

IMG20230429083830-01.jpg

"Before"

IMG20230429075439-01.jpg

First off had to drain the water butt
IMG20230429075848-01.jpg

The downpipe was a bit clogged .....

IMG20230429082101-01.jpg

Cleared that, used a downpipe connector to reconnect where the water butt had been Teed in and cracked on

IMG20230429082451-01.jpg

So first off coach bolted some 75*22 battens to the wall

IMG20230429091723-01.jpg

IMG20230429092236-01.jpg

Then some 47*47 at the lower level to take the "shelf"

IMG20230429103422-01.jpg

Measured up the opening and decided on "bays" of 1.2, 1.6 and 1.2 and then started on the bottom brace with a 75*22 "face" with a 47*47 "lip" to take the other end of the shelf

IMG20230429121523-01.jpg

Measured the same out of 75*25 for the top brace

Loosely screwed together and attached to 100*100 posts cut to 1.2m

IMG20230429125835-01.jpg

Rince repeat for the other 1.2 section at the other side

IMG20230429131814-01.jpg

I then cut lengths of 19*38 to space the two sections evenly off the face of the back wall

IMG20230429133226-01.jpg

Then attached some noggings to the wall to screw four 75*25 sections back to front to give some rigidity

IMG20230429141648-01.jpg

Then screwed the centre top and bottom front braces in

IMG20230429145037-01.jpg

Using the 75*25 as roof trusses I bird mouthed out for the wall plate and the front brace

IMG20230429144642-01.jpg

IMG20230429144645-01.jpg

IMG20230429144657-01.jpg

IMG20230429144654-01.jpg

Rinse repeat a "few" more times ....

IMG20230429162635-01.jpg

IMG20230429162646-01.jpg

Put a shed load of screws in the main frame and tightened it all up with the trusses in loose.

Called it a day.

With nogging out the trusses tomorrow and screw to the frame and batten out the bottom shelf.

I'll then measure up for roof battens and tiles and put a few finishing touches on.

Hopefully more tomorrow ....

Log store day #2

@dLockers plenty more pics for you mate :D

Screwed a rafter either side of the frot posts

IMG20230430093240-01.jpg

Then either side os a.100mm nogging (same as the post) and screwed that back at the "ridge" onto the wallplate

IMG20230430093720-01.jpg

That gave some real rigidity tongue whole frame and a good solid roof base

IMG20230430094548-01.jpg

Then did a similar process with the intermediate rafters with a wider (equi distant) spacing in between the posts

IMG20230430095908-01.jpg

Used as spacers and alternated front and back to give strength and also easier to access the screws

IMG20230430095941-01.jpg

Roof structure done !

IMG20230430104840-01.jpg

Trimmed the posts with the electric saw where they stood above the roof line

IMG20230430105050-01.jpg

Then cut six lengths to make a "feature" I'd seen on other stores

IMG20230430110942-01.jpg

Little touch, bit think it makes a.nice difference

IMG20230430113417-01.jpg

Then started on the shelf / base floor

IMG20230430115128-02.jpg

May take them slightly closer get bit rain stopped play for now ....

Should have built that around 3 or 4 pallets on floor - Cleaning time just lift out pallets.

Are you putting hinged lids on there - I have one low store and it would be a right pain if I hadn't hinged the top.

Sorry but rain doesn't stop play :)

I was thinking along those lines but the floor is adding to the structural integrity and I have a lead blower for a quick blast / clear out :D

No to the hinged lids - looking at clay rosemary tiles to make a proper job of it - it's 1.2m high at the front so not particularly low :)

I did carry on until it got quite heavy and good time.to stop as need to taxi my eldest then heading off with the Mrs and youngest for a wander round the shops then off for tea out :D

Log Store day #3 ...

Got the initial slats cut and screwed in across the base (61 of them .....)

IMG20230501100619-01.jpg

Then put another rafter in on the right hand side to take the tiles in line with the dwarf wall by the steps

IMG20230501103814-01.jpg

Pondered about if the base was going to be strong enough so but a front, back and two mid point strengthening lengths in running at 90 degrees

IMG20230501121219-01.jpg

All screwed in ....

That then protruded above the front piece so planted a lat all along the front on top to "hide" the upstand

IMG20230501121327-01.jpg

So that's "it" for now .....

IMG20230501121617-01.jpg

IMG20230501121610-01.jpg

Have ordered some reclaimed clay rosemary tiles to tile it with - will then start to cut, spilt and stack the logs too !

After all the bending and crouching I couldn't resist having a quick lay down - it was most comfortable:D

I can imagine it's going to be quite cosy when the roof is on :D

May be an option when I'm in the dog house

Looking Good :D
Pitch looks a bit shallow for rosemary tiles. If going this route i would double felt it.Breathable if cost allows Also consider the weight of those tiles.Heavy :)

Thanks

Yes it is shallow and heavy but should be ok with the roof timbers and hefty tile lats

The pitch I'm not so concerned about so long as it's relatively water tight and looks the part :D
