Why is there no information on new features yet? Tempted to get back into this version. Struggled to get on board with the newer FMs due to there being too much detail having to go into each area of the game but I went back to FM2008 and my Hyde United game the other night and got the bug...

I know. I don't like how SI appear to be marketing FM nowadays. Making people buy the game before a certain date to receive access to the beta and then not releasing any details until just before the beta comes out.

FM has the brand recognition to not need to trap buyers in like this and SI should be more open, earlier in the life-cycle of an FM release.

I agree, I know when you have a winning formula there might not be many things to change but FM has not just changed enough in the past 3 versions. God forbid they should release a version every couple of years.

I agreegree.

I think the majority of the user base will continue to buy and support Sports Interactive; we just want information.

A two year cycle, with transfer updates could work because sometimes year by year it can feel a little stale (I know they work on two year cycles anyway).

Really hoped the beta would be released by this weekend - got a long trip up to Newcastle and back on Saturday and a brand new FM would have really done the trick.

I would love to try this out again. I started with CM, CM 93, Italia and the 93 up date disks. I think I got the first FM and possibly the second FM after the split. I didn't get on with those as much. Now the current game maybe from 3 or 4 iterations ago I hated, far too much in the game. TOO indepth for me and takes ages to get a game underway. I know it's a footy managment game and this goes from training kids and doing interviews etc but I can't get on with the new way it's gone. Maybe it's me getting old and lost touch with managment games like this.

It's a shame really as I would lik to give it ago but don't want to fork out money to find out I give up after a few weeks playtime.

Edit: I do remember editing the game and made an OCUK team with members in the team that was going back a few years, the team was Called Fenton FC,, :)
Edit 2: The editied game file was shared with members on here too lots played a game of it and enjoyed it iirc.:)

I absolutely adore the micro management involved. It's a master-class. The ability (or lack of with some scouts lol) to follow a player for many seasons as he adapts and develops is fantastic and I feel a sense of achievement when my wonderkids turn into world class players. I can't wait to sink my hours into 17.

Am I the only one who is really disappointed with this? :( Literally nothing new that is worth it. I think the most significant additions for me are the 64-bit version (faster loading times hopefully) and the secondary filter button.

They always come out with the same stuff; improved match engine, improve transfers, improved contracts, improved screens (which are not really that useful) etc. I find myself doing the same stuff I did the year before. I'm not interested in creating my manager face. I'm not interested in the press approaching me (my assistant does that), I'm not interested in the players walking out to start a game (I'll skip that). I'm not interested in my assistant's messages appearing in my inbox (we had the backroom staff meeting or whatever). Who the hell cares about the social media? Again, I don't do press related stuff.

Granted, we will all probably play it because we all want the updated teams and such, but I really didn't find anything worth mentioning. I think I want them to increase the reality of what happens, substantially. I found FM16 very challenging (nearly impossible, but that might be because I haven't invested too much time) but sometimes it was too much. i literally couldn't buy any promising regen for decent money. 16 year old regens were values at 100M+. Players who had high PA but struggled to get 10 appearances in 2 years were also valued at absurd amounts. I never had one good regen at my club, they all go to Barca (even when playing with good teams). Match logic can be vastly improved (and not this slight increase). Again, I'll probably play it, but I'm not super excited for any of the new stuff.

I don't really understand that, of course they release similar things each year. They cannot reinvent the wheel?

You're right. I don't want them too. But I feel like most of the stuff they gave us is not really useful. I'd rather they focus on stuff that impacts the core game play rather then a new screen. You say that the game is similar, but there are 1000+ changes. That to me is a significant number, but the impact of those changes is not as significant.

I'd rather they do a 100 changes which really matter than 1000 which not many people use. I think coaching (and their effect on the game) can be changed a lot. Training can be improved. I felt like that whatever I was doing really didn't improve my results so I just stopped playing :p

Unless people stop buying it every year you wont see much change.

This type of game could benefit so much if it started to use native 64bit but no they have been running the same code since the launch of the FM brand that is lazy.

This year they have put the price up as well but playing off the discount thing.

I disagree; Sports Interactive have always steadily increased the overall quality of the product. Incremental improvements.

There have been by the sounds of it, huge improvements with the AI decision making for example this year. There are always tonnes of changes.

I agree there are still improvements to the game to be made, but I'm happy with the progress every few years. Looking back on older versions the difference is staggering.

There are a lot of changes each year, they're just under the hood or little changes. They cannot reinvent the wheel with this sort of game.

I agree about 64bit, but Football Manager 2017 has 64 but support.

The price thing is so-so, it rewards loyalty and even at the higher price point is still fantastic value in my opinion.

Fair enough. To be honest I found FM16 very different in terms of how it plays out. It was 'harder' in every aspect, which isn't necessarily bad, but sometimes it was a bit ridiculous. I was Celtic, and I never got one decent regen. I had to buy good, young players from Brazil/Argentina for a few millions, wait until they are 18, loan them out because they have no work permit (thus losing their home grown status) and then maybe give them a shot at the first team. European regens were way out of my league price wise.

Defensively nothing ever worked. I leaked in a lot of goals. I tried doing defensive training, getting defensive coaching, everything. I never really managed to do that well in the league. I always lost ~8 games and drew another ~4.

It was easy to sell your players for a lot of money though. I got Saul for ~8M then sold him the following ear for 67M. Got Oliver Torres as his replacement for 15M and after a year I got offer of 30+ (could have easily doubled if I negotiated).

Then again, it might have been that I was bad at the tactical side of the game :p

I suck at FM, not purchased for a few years so will pick this up.

Seriously though, I am **** but still enjoy playing.

I always play with none league teams and never get promoted so am sure I missing out on a large portion of game features :D

What is the cheapest way to purchase thus far?
