*** FM17 thread ***

amateur played the first versions on the Amiga (championship manager) back in the day! using the special 3-3-1-3 direct tactic and holding space bar overnight to go though seasons at a time lol

Wingers did NOTHING so you just piled everyone into the centre and away you go :D

Any reason why they did not program for wingers? Too complex?

The tactic I used on thew First Champ manager was play sweeper tactic then move players into this formation 1-2-3-5 Used to get 10+ goals a game :p. Mine was on the Amiga too. Quick game always started as Notts Forest and the devs added them selves to the game as players too. :D That tactic above never worked against the top European sides in the Euro compitions though which was a bummer :(

been playing since champ man 93 god I feel old ;)

only got the last few on steam though

Not bought any since 2011 Iirc? Started with the Kevin Toms Football Manager on the Spectrum though. (1982?)

they had most of the formations including wingers but this was an unbeatable tactic that worked with pretty much any team! I was young and wanted to win everthing! :D

Not buying it day one this year, no details about changes and I want to know if the 3D engine has improved, amongst other things, like unhappiness etc...

Will keep an eye on their forum.

Just looking at the video it does look like the match engine has been worked on. The graphics are improved anyway. More animations so there will be less abstraction which will be good.

check the last page...

Well I did find the "Big Reveal" video and that is the way to present the changes properly! It should be the first thing you see when you visit their site though!

The Avatar is an issue, it looks worse than last years... and now every time you load the game up you blimming see it! The face recognition does seem quite good though. Just the body.

The new 3D engine... if the A.I. is good, then that's great, it does however look less appealing than what we have in 2016, players look stiff possibly because they look a fair bit bigger.

Regardless, pre-ordering now.

I disagree; Sports Interactive have always steadily increased the overall quality of the product. Incremental improvements.

There have been by the sounds of it, huge improvements with the AI decision making for example this year. There are always tonnes of changes.

I've never had that; I mean, I change tactics, training, style, players, and try and improve results. I only 'stop playing' really when the next game is released, and I rarely get bored with teams.

I agree there are still improvements to the game to be made, but I'm happy with the progress every few years. Looking back on older versions the difference is staggering.

There are a lot of changes each year, they're just under the hood or little changes. They cannot reinvent the wheel with this sort of game.

I agree about 64bit, but Football Manager 2017 has 64 but support.

The price thing is so-so, it rewards loyalty and even at the higher price point is still fantastic value in my opinion.

On paper it may look like a lot of changes but it's not really most bits that looked added was already held back or in the coding also most of it is tweaks/fixes which should have been in the patches for the last game.

Now supports 64bit after all this time what a joke a game like this should have been using that longtime ago.

The price doesn not reward anyone they put it up then say well we are giving discount for this or that no they are bringing it back to what it was before (these games used to be £20 now it's £40) no competition is a big problem.

The only big effort these people put in is to counter piracy.

The fanboys for these games really can't see the big picture.

One question if I may.

When did you last convert a program to run natively on another architecture?

You make it sound like this was not done out of sheer laziness.

There are many commercial factors as well as to why it was not done earlier.

The Steam hardware survey for September 2016 shows that more than 85% of users are now running 64bit systems.

Given the amount of game hours I get out of this game, I feel the price is very competitive. Also, in terms of drastic improvements/developments within the game, they've obviously hit upon a relatively successful platform so if it ain't broke then don't fix it. Little additions here and there are obviously welcome wherever the improve upon the experience but I've really enjoyed the last few releases - I do play in 2D so the 3D engine is lost on me a litt.e

Haven't kept myself as up to date with this years FM, last time I looked around a month ago couldn't find a list of new features etc but coming across this thread has peaked my interest again.

Does anyone know if they are going to make the create a manager look less frankensteinie? I know it's not all about graphics with FM but my manager looked like leather face from the Texas chainsaw massacre :D

Don't get me wrong, I think the manager's in Football Manager 2016 look absolutely, laughably, terrible but I have this weird fondness for them. It's like, endearing that the quality is so terrible, similarly the 'regen' faces have been absolutely terrible too.

I think there is a marked improvement on the graphics this year, however, the 'YOUR FACE ON YOUR MANAGER' malarkey is looking like it could be hilariously, awfully, brilliant too.
