Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 6th July 2006

I wasn't trying to raise any sort of compitence issue, I thought the tables were all sourced from some stat server! Manually done then eh? Nice to see people putting in their own time, I don't want to make any sort of fuss but it would be nice to be in the league please as I intend on making a solid contribution to the team :)

12V rail is really low so i cant put it under any load otherwise it cuts off...

Hmm... what sort of value is that then? I've a P4 system that works fine on idle, but within a minute of starting folding it just shuts off, not crashing, just powers off. I wonder if maybe that could be the issue??

Don't worry about Rich, he needs a rocket up his arse sometimes (don't mention the pink T-shirt ;) ).

Stan :)

Nope at idle its 11.72 and on 50% load it goes down to 11.62 and after about 5 minutes it drops lower and then shuts down. It is pretty old and ive been meaning to upgrade :p

Thats about the best way a psu can go tbh. Just cuts off when it gets overloaded and the voltage drops below threshold. Many psus would go pop or let the voltage drop too low and cause problems.
What make is it?

Its pretty cheap i think ts a TWD or TWS something along those lines 550watt with 24amps on the 12v rail. Lasted me a long time :D Bargin for only £25 with a case 4 years ago :p

Hmm! Maybe but im saving up for conroe so wouldnt i need an ATX 2.2? Was looking at the Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

On some you might. The EPS connector is just a 2x4 (8 pins total) connector that give supplemental power to the CPU socket. IIRC the Intel Bad Axe, the premier Conroe board, takes it.

It certainly doesn't hurt and that's a modular PSU anyway (I think) so what you don't need you can disconnect.

Yup, there she is right next to the parallel port.

Yep it has to be done manually as Stanford don't take kindly to bots crawling through their cgi stats pages which is the only place to get the number of active CPUs
The news itself could be done automatically from the Fast Teampage which permits the use of bots etc but as you can see there's no mention of active CPUs, I'd like to avoid a totally automated system though as I think it'd take some of the fun out of the whole thing

I will however have to look into getting more of the news process automated as when I started it off we only have around 50 active members as opposed to the 150 at the moment (way to go team!) as well as the addition of the single machine list. I get Excel to do all the dull stuff but it still takes between 1 - 1.5 hours from start to finish and can be a bit of a mission at times, however it's all worth it once it's finished (or at least 99% done most times anyway :p)

No 3rd core people! Dunno why it saying that.

Macs dead, and has two 20% completed W/Us from before the last News, its been off since Tuesday with a power failure, its fine once you turn it on, apart from no power to USB, firewire, network... etc...

PC, is off from 10/11 till 8AM, and it will be falling into my bros hands so it will be off pretty much all the time.

Until September I will have close to 0 output, that is until I get my Conroe rig and overclock the balls off it. However if the mac is too far gone then that plan is out of the window.

Mac >>>>>> gaming PC im afraid, however if I get a new mac, its the Quad G5 ;)

CR.

Righty, when my P3 finishes its current WU, i'm taking it out of production. It's doing about 20ppd and its making me look really bad on the single crunchers list :p It's probably costing more than its worth :(

Ahh that's fine... but you haven't said what you're replacing it with...
