Ahh that's fine... but you haven't said what you're replacing it with...

:D

SiriusB

Dont you worry Mr Sirius :D

My plan, is to gradually replace this system with conroe, but keep this system folding 24/7 :D

edit: I think i'll keep the P3 going until i can replace it :p

Hmm... what sort of value is that then? I've a P4 system that works fine on idle, but within a minute of starting folding it just shuts off, not crashing, just powers off. I wonder if maybe that could be the issue??

Well, I've been checking out this P4 system tonight (it's a bare mb now along with most of my farm) - hooked it up to the PSU that's running my 3800X2 and hey presto, it worked fine with folding, no crash, no powering off.. I left it 2 hrs and it was fine, so it definately looks like it is the PSU that's at fault.. just ordered another one. Couldn't resist buying a Athlon Venice 3500 as well (60 quid), as I have the MB, hard drive and memory already to make another addition to the farm :)
So, fingers crossed, prepare to see my output go up another 2-3 thousand a week :D

Its going to be atleast 3 weeks before i can get a new PSU :o :(

It'll just take longer to work through, although it'll probably be worth a few more ppd due to the fact that it uses more ram, but it wont be very much.

Actually on both rigs I've had these on, I've had about double the PPD of a "standard" Gromacs unit.

On my SD 4000+ (2.64GHz) I got PPD of 342 for one of these.

Stan :)

Scarily similar posts

on any machine with SSE it's pretty darn good - it's a Gromacs and has double points due to being larrrrge :)

edit: my X2 at stock was getting 220-230 from the p1164 - that's about double what it gets from a small Gromacs

Its on a 1.73 Pentium M Dothan and is saying 2 days to finish.

woohoo, in the stats again....

Adding another xp2600 and if a certain hardware supplier pull their finger out instead of giving me excuses over stock availability, I might have my 930d up and running sometime this millennium.

If you go for a tualatin core machine it'll be clocked higher and will be cooler but I wouldn't bother. FAH performance scales nicely with clockspeed. If you're getting the machine anyway, abolutely put FAH on it. If you're interested in doing it just to run FAH it's be cheaper in the long run to save a bit and get an Athlon MP or similar.
Well, i just lost the only athlon mp bundle on the bay at the moment, so i'm not really sure what to do now.
Wish i had made a higher bid, but having said that it was probably a flacky board anyway.

My problem is, i have a dead board here with a working cpu, ram, psu etc.
Now i'm happy to bin the cpu as its rubbish but it would seem a shame to bin the ram and psu and case aswell, and i can get an 800mhz celeron bundle with board and ram for £20 delivered. Combined with the ram and psu and case i've got that would do as a fileserver. Problem is, it won't fold as well as a dually would. The other problem is, neither the psu or ram will work with a dually board.

I'm not really allowed to buy two systems, the fileserver excuse will only work for one.

My other options are to get either a dual p3 733 system or try and buy shadowscotlands dual p3 off him, or wait for another athlon mp system to appear.

These athlon mp systems are annoyingly rare and fantastically cheap for what they are, and i'm thinking if i get the cheap celeron 800 combo and put it with my current stuff i could use that while i wait for another mp system to turn up.

So what should i do?
Remember that although this is a fileserver, its not, its a folding rig. ;)
Email in trust if you think your suggestions might be breaking some rules.

Edit: Plenty of athlon mp stuff in the us but i suppose they would add vat and customs and extra delivery to it...

i`ve got a dual p3 733 folding unit which does about 2/3 units a week so its not a big producer, try and go for a dual mp will produce so much more work.

Yep, i think i'm going to get the celeron bundle... can't go wrong for that price... and wait for another athlon mp system to turn up.

Thanks for the offer anyway.

When i get it i'm going to use it to plug my drives into while i send the motherboard back from the opty system, so that will stop folding for a while.
