If you go for a tualatin core machine it'll be clocked higher and will be cooler but I wouldn't bother. FAH performance scales nicely with clockspeed. If you're getting the machine anyway, abolutely put FAH on it. If you're interested in doing it just to run FAH it's be cheaper in the long run to save a bit and get an Athlon MP or similar.
Well, i just lost the only athlon mp bundle on the bay at the moment, so i'm not really sure what to do now.
Wish i had made a higher bid, but having said that it was probably a flacky board anyway.
My problem is, i have a dead board here with a working cpu, ram, psu etc.
Now i'm happy to bin the cpu as its rubbish but it would seem a shame to bin the ram and psu and case aswell, and i can get an 800mhz celeron bundle with board and ram for £20 delivered. Combined with the ram and psu and case i've got that would do as a fileserver. Problem is, it won't fold as well as a dually would. The other problem is, neither the psu or ram will work with a dually board.
I'm not really allowed to buy two systems, the fileserver excuse will only work for one.
My other options are to get either a dual p3 733 system or try and buy shadowscotlands dual p3 off him, or wait for another athlon mp system to appear.
These athlon mp systems are annoyingly rare and fantastically cheap for what they are, and i'm thinking if i get the cheap celeron 800 combo and put it with my current stuff i could use that while i wait for another mp system to turn up.
So what should i do?
Remember that although this is a fileserver, its not, its a folding rig.
Email in trust if you think your suggestions might be breaking some rules.
Edit: Plenty of athlon mp stuff in the us but i suppose they would add vat and customs and extra delivery to it...
