[ Folding ] We only need 13,000ppd more to start catching ABXzone

.walls if you don't mind me asking, how many CPUs have you got running?

I have eight processors crunching seven of those running flat out 24/7 and one doing slightly less than that... with 31 cores in total :)

I would be doing the big WUs now, but my infrastructure can't handle it... yet.

What Xeons are they? Also what do you mean by 'infrastructure' :D Are they running in your home, or at work? (leccy bill )

Thanks for the walkthrough Happy, will give GPU folding a bash! ;)

Hey shaz. What operating system is the machine running? if its windows, gpu (graphics card) folding will be easy and cpu hard. If its linux, cpu folding will be easy and gpu hard.

If it's windows, then you can either run the windows smp client, set up much the same way as the graphics cards. Or for superior points you can run a system in a couplde of virtual machines, one 4 thread smp per machine. Happy is the guy to ask about that though, I've not tried it for a while now. There seems to be some stability issues involved with virtual box and windows which means the i7-only units are pretty much out of reach if using windows, as it sucks to have it crash and lose 3 days worth of folding.

If running linux then cpu folding is very straightforward, the big units approach is covered on the last page. It amounts to running ./fah6 -smp 8 for a couple of days, then running ./fah6 -smp 8 -bigadv from that point onwards. Graphics card folding on linux is quite involved, I'll leave that one until I know which OS you're working with.

I'll watch for a reply, not everyone is awake at this time.
Welcome to team 10 :)

Running Win7 at the mo on my machine. Seems GPU folding is a go!

Right that was a lot easier than CPU folding. Currently 5% into a 353point project, and will be complete in 59 minutes.

Sorted.

One thing though, it didn't give me the option on where to install to, just installed it into program files/folding@home... etc. Is it a issue if not installed in a top level directory?

No it's fine wherever it's installed.

We're reeling ABXZone in. 1.9 months until we overtake and shrinking.. :)

Just been paid so this should help my output when the PC is on, not bad for £80 :)

Very nice Happy! I've got the virtual SMP up and running now (thanks to Happy for activation code, JonJ, sir les and others for advice!), it won't be on 24/7 but added with my 4850 should give another couple of K per day.

Fahmon is looking healthy :D

Nooooooooooooo!!!! :p

I reckon I may be able to regain my spot for a day or so before you completely blow me out of the water with another massive WU!

If you can hold 21k ppd I believe you'll overtake and stroll off into the distance, my machine can't match that unless I take the clock up significantly. Which would mean at least a week's downtime and a 120k deficit to make up. Sad times.

In fairness though you've filled a shed with computers. I think you deserve to win this scrap really

21k is at full whack, it's more like 17-18K as I can't keep the rig indoors on 24/7 - GF doesn't like it.

We shall have to see how this pans out, the battle continues...:D
