[ Folding ] We only need 13,000ppd more to start catching ABXzone

np - I only have one card anyway, will certaily give this a shot when I get home (end of the week).

Would it work in virtualbox? I know they have 3d support now... but will it actually offload the work to the gpu driver?

Incidentally, we're back to ~50k ppd behind abxzone, as they've increased production - but the gauntlet should be finished soon... btw, they have a couple of users who each produce about half of our whole team's production... wtf?!!

Just joined up with my rig. I'm running the windows smp version at the moment but may swap to the vmware linux version at some point. Also running two gpu versions on my sli 8800gts 512s and a PS3. PC is getting roughly 17k ppd plus whatever the PS3 can do :D

Good man! Welcome to the team :) you should be shooting up the ranks fairly quickly with that lot.

Sorry to be a spoil sport, but does nobody care about their electricity bills? :p

I care, I've built my folding rig using good PPD/W cards and monitor the leccy with an individual plug monitor and one of those owl things. I try to shut down everything else in the house now when possible to compensate!

I look at it as
a) it's a hobby, most hobbies cost money and it isn't that much compared to some.
b) some people give £10 a month to charity to feel good, I donate some electricity to help science and medicine, it's my social feel good factor :p

I think some people don't pay there leccy bills on here [jealous], at uni etc which is a bonus.

yes we do - that why no one here folds on p4 any more :D

points per watt is just as important max points and both are less important than the science

I also swapped out an old inefficant card for a newer one at work - bill goes down win-win result

Can someone tell me what I need to do to join in. My works E8400 is on 24/7 so it would be a shame not to use it :)

Joining is just a matter of downloading and installing the client, and entering your username with team number 10.

NOTE: If it is not your hardware, get explicit permission from the owner. Running unsolicited software on hardware that doesn't belong to you, even if it is for a good cause, can be cause for disciplinary action or may even be considered a sackable offence. Whether this is right or wrong, it is not worth the hassle. Companies usually take a dim view of it as it is something outside of their control, as far as they know it could present a security risk, may result in a loss of productivity, increase their costs etc etc

Should be a few days till I'm up to full capacity

MI shouldn't you i7 be kicking out more points than that?

Clipboard01-33.jpg

My Q9450 doesn't appear to be running anywhere near what it should be. It should be at around 3.5K PPD. Not quite sure why, as my old Q6600 did 3.1K PPD and I haven't changed anything since :(

Just sorting joining up now :) Now somewhere where my electricity bills are included in my (expensive) rent, so i'm going to make the most of it to get my monies worth :D

I've only got one client running at the moment, but I have a Q6600 and a GTX260 i'de like to have running at full capacity when the machine isn't in use. The set-up thread doesn't seem to cover GPU clients and is a little outdated with the whole P4 stuff.. Could someone point me in the right direction please? :)

Right i need to spend some more time setting up these 3 VM's but i should be good for about 18k PPD once i figure it out nearly there.

Edit: All up and running now I'm tired so I'll see what my PPD is when i get up :)

Edit Edit:
PPD-1.jpg

I can run one more VM but haven't set it up yet should give me near 20k

3rd edit: How long does a SMP WU take to upload normally cos i'm getting bored waiting for mine to do it.

Last edit: Give up folding on the VM's to long and not worth the hassle for me :( wish Stanford would hurry up and release the a2 to windows.

You don't need lots of virtual machines. One virtual machine is a lot less effort than three or four. No idea on vmware, but virtualbox will let you assign 8 cpus to it if you're so inclined. You can then run one instance of the smp client on all the cpus, using a command similar to ./fah6 -smp 8. My i7 is reporting about 11k ppd, though is not terribly reliable.

You could not bother with these at all, install linux onto your hard drive, and when you go to sleep reboot into linux to leave it folding. Or use one of the diskless folding images, and boot from cd when you go to sleep.
