**Football 19th-22nd March** 2010/2011

Top result there. Despite Sunderland having a lot of the first half, Reina had nothing to do all game. Think Carroll will come good in time. Just hope the Suarez injury is nothing bad.

Yeah i totally appreciate that but i dont think he has the fundamental managerial ability to underpin it.

The "big man little man" is an outdated concept in modern football

However i would be interested to see how many times Liverpool full backs will play it long when chasing the game in the hope of hitting the big man.

I think he is a far far better manager than most people give him credit for. They said the tactics he used to beat chelsea were outdated too ;)

Fantastic. Closes the gap on 5th to 4 points and still yet to play spurs.

Agreed, Carroll has little technical ability as well. Surprise signing for a strange change to a team that, the fans at least, want to be going for the title.

Still, can't assume that every game will go to plan - a back up one of long ball football isn't a bad idea.

Good win for Liverpool but Sunderland couldn't really have made it any easier for us. They literally offered nothing going forward and weren't good enough to stop us at the back. Better squad than us have they? Might quote a few of the posters that came up with that nonsense at the end of the season for the LOLZ.

Thought most of our players played well today although Spearing deserves a lot of praise for that performance. One of his best games although I still don't think he's got a lengthy future at the club.

I wouldnt be going down the road of quoting tactics on a game by game basis!

Braga x 2

Case closed

That was a potential trophy.

Everyone loves "King Kenny" right now but when the novelty wears off and the reality kicks in with a fresh season he wont be "King Kenny" any more. He will be the former Newcastle manager and the guy who masterminded John Barnes at Celtic.

Unless Liverpool benefit from a Cantona-esque ban and an unlimited chequebook he wont be troubling the top of the league.

Great analysis.
Dalglish out.

Absolutely. Dalglish is a very astute manager. I don't remember one away performance like that under Hodgeson. I know there are a couple of new players there, but then there is one missing as well.

Hopefully, we'll continue to get the results and that Liverpool vs Spurs game towards the end of the season could mean something...

Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Essien, Lampard, Kalou, Torres, Malouda.

I personally think too many people desperately WANT dalglish to be a failure. As for loving him, I've liked him for almost 4 decades, that's not going to change any time soon. I'm sure some people will only ever think of him as the former Newcastle and Celtic person, but for me he is the Liverpool man and the mastering behind SAS and blackburns title. That's not going to change no matter how much people wish for him to be disliked.

If Roy Hodgson had masterminded the exit out of Europe to Braga, the sale of Torres and the purchase of Carroll for £35m do you think it would have been as accepted as it has been under "King Kenny"?

Much better performance in the 2nd half and unlucky not to have won by a couple of goals more.

Thought the ref (penalty aside) had a bit of a mare. Not sure how he missed the foul for the red card and once the lino's given it, it was an incredibly harsh straight red (althought he'd have gone for a 2nd yellow anyway). The foul given against N'gog for quite literally nothing was ridiculous though.
Maybe I need my eyes tested, but on the replay it looked to me like the contact was made well outside the box, and then he was just clever about it and allowed his momentum to carry him inside the box before fully going to ground. I thought it was pretty clear, but I dunno. I'll rewatch the replays at the game's end and see if I change my mind.

Not sure you need your eyes tested. I said myself that it was probably just outside. The point I was making was that it was an incredibly hard call for the officials to make.

Like I said in my post, where the defender first dived in was clearly outside the box but where the contact is made is a lot closer.

Im a Man Utd fan and i genuinely like him. Not for what he has achieved, although im Scottish and i appreciate that but because of his charity work.

I live in quite a remote area and Kenny Dalglish has gone very far out of his way to support charities here. Himself and his wife are absolutely 100% genuine people. I cant praise him enough.

As a football manager i think he is totally over rated and i am chuffed that Liverpool seem to be buying into it.

The exit to the europa league hasn't been accepted, we were awful end of, but it is clear we can play pass and move in other matches rather than seeing a big lad upfront and all of a sudden think we can only hoof.

Torres going the way he did wouldn't have been frowned upon more under Hodgson, i don't think it could be the **** he is and the way he did it.

Carroll wasn't only up to Kenny and still many fans are sceptical, it is the owners who decide to fork out the cash and Comelli who makes the main recommendations, not Hodgson or Kenny. Also if Hodgson had beei given money to spend i'd be glad we're actually willing to hand out the cash rather than retain profit.

And saying he won't be referred to as 'King Kenny' anymore is daft.

This is here for the taken today for Chelsea, City had a tough game in the week playing 60 odd minutes with 10 no Tevez who has 6 in 6 against Chelsea, Dzeko yet to score in PL and Ballotelli not playing!
