Football manager 2016

Rather than scouting entire countries or regions I usually scout a competition (i.e. the top league in that country).

Been playing for just over a week now on the new game and things are starting to click after not playing since FM 2012. The breadth of this game is staggering, there is so much detail it's incredibly overwhelming at first.

After seriously struggling initially with Ipswich we're doing a bit better now after 30 games we sit mid-table but only 6 points off the play offs. 4-4-2 seems to be the best tactic for me at the moment, but I am 4th in the league on my home record, but 4th bottom for my away record so I need to devise a better away strategy. I think we are far too attacking away from home. If we don't get promoted this year I am confident that with a better start next year we will have no trouble.

Form seems to be a massive massive factor in this game. Squad rotation also seems more important, keeping players fit and making sure they're ready to step up as well as bringing youth through.

I found that counter attack is the best form of defense for me both home and away but that has taken 3 full seasons to have a good counter attacking side and a lot of money spent on quick attacking players and solid passing central midfielders.

Squad rotation can be quite annoying I've started to notice that if a player doesn't get any game time over a couple of games his sharpness drops off the cliff. In the Italian league it's even harder as the U20's and U18's play on the same day as the first team.

Don't get me wrong I like the fitness and match fitness aspect but I have to keep a small squad these days to try keep everyone happy. Even in Italy with its crazy 11 man subs bench.

Can you search for staff by their current knowledge? You can search by nationality of course but there are plenty of staff members who have vast knowledge all over the world I might be missing out on

so, 2nd part has just finished simming.

Finishing knowledge is 45%, so 1% less than scouting regionally, however I have 100% knowledge in pretty much every country a scout was sent to.

Reports - https://gyazo.com/6f4492acca24aad5a7e7ba324d6bfbc1
Country knowledge - https://gyazo.com/9ab73cb88c52efb52bb750eb496d97df

So, less countries but better knowledge in each, as you'd expect, which would probably be better when searching for wonderkids, especially if you've got enough scouts to cover the majority of countries with decent youths.

I also think that the number of reports may be important. These are (theoretically) all players with more than 3* potential ability.

Scouting individual countries gave me - 2365 players who theoretically, shouldn't overlap. Few will I'm sure though (loans)
Scouting regions gave me - 1649, however there were 2 scouts in top 3 regions. WIll be overlapping players

There you have it then.

Scouting by regions - more knowledge, less good players.
Scouting by individual countries - less knowledge, but (if you're scouting better countries) more better players.

Hope this helps some of you :)

I understand it's a very small experiment data wise but nevertheless

I wonder how much of a bearing the JPA/JPP stat has on this. I might load a save and download an in-game editor to turn the clubs scouts stats to 20, sim for a year and check on 20 reports, then reload and put the stats to 1 and have a look at the same set of reports. I'm going to hazard a prediction that there won't be much difference in the reports.

Just about to boot up my game and saw how much flipping time of my life I've spent on this... 216 hours, it has almost put me off playing it!

Got Jaen(Spanish B4) to rival Real Madrid for title, only one club would get me away from my beloved Jaen, Newcastle United, who were 19th in the Championship in January, took the reigns and should make play offs and hopefully promotion.

Match engine is still dodgy, goal keepers "saving" shots that are going 2 yards wide is particularly annoying.

210 hours :( spent around a hundred messing around. Starting 4th season with Fiorentina after winning CL in 3rd season, rejected City, Arsenal and United job offers so far, still waiting for Mike Ashley to sack McClaren :(

I usually average about 300-400 hrs per release :-)

Yet to install this one only bought it as it was cheap off one of the clubs sites is it better than the last one?

No major changes, the match engine is as bad as ever really.

I think 2014 was the most recent best one, so I *might* update that database and try it out.

Much better than '14 and '15 IMO.

There are some quirks in the replay engine so you can largely guarantee a goal but apart from that it's much more challenging than previous versions and on first release extremely stable and bug free.

+1

I've always wished they'd just release an transfer update instead of a new game for just one year and give themselves two years two create an outstanding product with a superb ME.

The ME has been the biggest single failing of the game for ages now but this year they've ironed out everything else, just need that 3D ME to be a little more polished.

Although I still want to gouge my eyes out every time my short passing team CB plays a stupid long ball which is cut out and they score. Happens once every other few games and as soon as the highlight comes on my blood pressure goes up :D

Individual instructions set to pass shorter and less risky passes(if it's not greyed, can't remember at the moment)? What roles? if they are set to limited defender role they will just hoof it away too. Try having the keeper roll it out to full backs if the CBs passing and vision are crap.

I know what you mean with that particular highlight though, I've seen the GK long kick (even though he's set to roll it) one that leads to opposition goal quite a few times.

Yeah it was a ball playing CB team with no risky passes, blew my mind why they were doing which is why I was getting frustrated. Seems to happen across the the tactic playing spectrum as a bit of a quirk.

change to normal centre back the BPD is meant to do long through balls forward, unless they have extremely good passing and vision this will keep turning over possession

FM2016 downloading...\O/

Is it worth using existing pics/badges/kits from 15 or is there a good superpack available?

Edit: downloaded the SS Kits 2015-2016 megapack and it's asking for a password?
