Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Well one of the useless agencies finally got back to me about the interview, I start tomorrow on a modest £10 per hour... not so shabby for a temporary role! Woo!

I had an interview for a placement with a very well known computing company in Belfast on Friday.

Was one of the best interviews i've had, totally laid back and we were chatting and bantering, the time flew by.

Got a call a few hours later offering me a placement :D So happy now I can look forward to something, its in the vein of hardware which I love, hate coding and programming, so excited!

Excellant buddy! If I can get back in to that field a bit more i'd be happy

How does my cover letter sound?

Dear Hiring ****,

I would like to apply for the position of a(an) (job title here) that I have seen advertised on the DirectGov website.

I have over 5 years experience as an IT Field Technician and bespoke Audio & Visual Installer for all computer and home entertainment related subjects. My current role is a 3 month temporary role as an ICT Technician at a college in Shrewsbury.

In my previous roles I have,

  • Used my expertise to provide first class support to the company's domestic and commercial customers and drive first time fix rate in the region from 65% to 70%.
  • Shared my knowledge and industry experience with new recruits to make sure they are in the best position to provide a high standard of support to our customers
  • Attended forum meetings and worked closely with management to discover problems areas and work out and deliver practical solutions.
I can assure you that my experience, industry knowledge and my strong customer focus makes me a strong candidate for this role.

Please find my CV attached and I look forward to hearing from you.

Haha, and I see that £10 an hour is being put to good use ;)

Haha, no, I was at home when I wrote that :)

Turns out that the position is not for 2-3 weeks but for ~3 months which is absolutely perfect for me. 10 minute drive away, same location as my gym, 8.30-16.30 hours, fairly easy work, right length of the job for me to save money for some travelling and for me to live at home.

I am so bloody jammy sometimes that if I wasn't me I'd hate my guts \o/

For a start, I wouldn't post your personal details on here.

Seems OK, here was the structure of my own recent covering letters for you to make of what you will. I thought it ended it off quite well.

So two weeks ago, I was originially asked to work monday/tuesday. Agreed to this but was asked to work the rest of the week on the tuesday, told the dole office who put a note on record saying I contacted them about working. I was asked back again the next week, so again phoned and they told me to sign off, even with it being a temporary job.
So saturday I signed back up online, this morning got the details through for my appointment and this evening been asked back for the remainder of this week.
Joys of being a sort of freelancer.

Don't think this warrants starting a new thread, but I just want to ask has anyone had any experience with these agencies like manpower, staffline etc. Are they just interested in getting you into any job fast, or do they work with you to find the ideal role.

My cover letters keep expanding as I keep wanting to try and include how my past experiences are beneficial for the outlined job roles or personal attributes.
Found one I like the sound of, but clearly punching above my weight.

Wish I had forgotten how bad job searching was. Absolutely nothing this year and then a resignation and redundancy from two separate jobs in the last three months.

Degree-educated but boy am I paying for skipping my work placement year. Saw an IT trainee position earlier there which would be a great opportunity, then I read the critieria and it was only open to people with a degree level education in a Non-IT subject...:o

well after my first signing of the year yesterday i got home and emailed chris grayling (yes the employment minister) and told him my views on the jobcenter and its special staff.

i lost it yesterday as i noticed a new 6ft banner/poster with "retraining" slapped across it. so i though to myself finaly things are happening.

so i sit down with my advisor ask her about it and her first answer is "oh, i hadnt noticed that before. you should ask someone about it" confused and shocked as id just asked her i asked her again is there something new as far as training and i get "no we got told this morning theres nothing new happening" she then goes on to print off a job for me to apply to even though it states experienced people need only apply. i fired a cv anyways aint heard nothing.

so i got home yesterday and though sod it, lets see what the guy who's incharge of jobcenters has to say about the lack of training even though mp's keep going on about it all. i also asked why was the gov blowing yet more money on problem families who have no intention on working, while people like myself are left to just sort ourselves out.

i know im kidding myself that il get any sort of sense out of them but the way im feeling at the moment it just gives me a place to vent at as im getting the feeling this years going to be rather crappy.

All credit to you. I feel for anyone who actually is genuinely looking for work when you have to deal with these cretins working in the job centre that just do not offer any support and only offer incompetence. The staff obviously all aren't like this, and there are good ones but there were also absolutely useless staff. They just want you to sign on, and apply for pointless jobs, jobs you wouldn't even need a CV to apply for, and this goes on for months, they don't care about individuals as they know after a certain amount of time you aren't their problem any longer as they can ship you off elsewhere if you want to still claim the poultry benefit that is JSA, you have to abide.

The entire place needs to be scraped and started from the ground up. But it won't happen.

^^^...Heh, that would be nice...but as you say, will not happen.

I need to get back in to the job searching market again, time to move on I think
