Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I've had an apple interview, good luck with it.

My current application I am really rooting for is this one:
http://www.bdrecruitment.com/marketing/job-detail.php?id=3500

It was originially title as "rare entry level position" but they've seemed to have changed it and added that you need experience too =[

I really need something, would also like to apply for Graphic Design but I have zero folio to apply for.
I am just fed up with it all, and getting fed up with life again and boredom.

On the plus side the strikes cancelled my meeting with my personal advisor, it's the second time they've cancelled it! Been on the dole since september and only ever had to go in for 5mins to sign on.

I got an email the other day about a job that some recruiter was hiring for. I noticed various errors in the advert but one struck out the most... The job doesn't apply to me, I get these kinds of emails every week and I just browse them out of curiosity if anything.

Recruiters looking to forward possible candidates to an employer should know all about the type of work the employer is advertising because if they don't, like this recruitment agent, then they may well be missing out a candidate that is perfect for the job.

These agencies are a mockery to employment, not only do they not keep their word most of the time but they also don't have a clue about the jobs they're advertising on the their customer's behalf.

Our company is having massive problems finding computer minded/techy people for positions on my dept. Its crazy, non of my mates dare leave their current (rubbish) jobs but i try to convince them its impossible not to pass probation. I think this is part of a wider problem now & wonder is companies will take advantage of it with pay cuts etc.

I'm not part of the HR team but they say its impossible to find french & russian speakers or just technical people in London ( my mouth almost hit the floor). I've tried to tell them the job adverts ask too much & scare people away but they dont listen.

If anyone's sick of being out of work, bit of a computer geek or can speak Fre or Russ, £27k basic+another £3k guaranteed minimum bonus, email in trust [email protected]

Bump, as this appears to be the official job seeking thread.

I'm seeking something temporary - interview tomorrow for an admin role using excell which I've been swatting up on today. The pay is so miserably poor - sub £15kpa :o

If I get it they will want me to start on Tuesday, but I have another interview scheduled in for Wednesday which is better paid and another potential interview for later in the week which is circa £22kpa.

Going to be awkward asking for time off.... if I even get the first job :p

I guess you could say you're not available to start until next week, maybe with a good reason they could accept it, if not, I wouldn't settle for less when you already have an interview for a much better job lined up. In the end it's all how confident you feel.

It always shocks me how little these companies want to pay for online marketing positions. Anyone who is any good at online marketing could make a small fortune for themselves in their own home.

Well I've been back at my holiday job again, as a temp. Thing is they keep extending how long I work for. It's gone from monday/tuesday this week, to all this week, to back again on monday. Who knows how long I could be there for.
I phoned jobcentre on wednesday to say I had a temporary job for the week, but I'm not sure how long is too long for taking the micheal.

Meh, least your not on 12.5k like moi :o

Good luck!

I remember my first full time job which paid £12,400 and then after 2 years had a massive, massive pay rise to....£13,400 :p

Was glad to get out of that even though it gained me a lot of valuable experience!

I've actually applied to a new job now as my current one is not maxing out my capabilities and doesn't have any scope to expand either both financially and role wise so I've applied to a University which, if successful, should see me through for a very long time :D

I need to get balls and just apply for something, I can't progress unless my colleague leaves (which he wont) and I wont be getting any significant pay rise as the guy above me is only on 18k, and we're a school :p so its public sector.

Ugh

I'm looking now.

Left a company after 5 years due to relocation and its annoying as what I want to do and what I am skilled at is pretty niche and the positions come about rather rarely.

Dropped my CV speculatively to all the companies I know does my sort of stuff and all have replied saying "you look brilliant but we have nothing on" or variations on that theme :(

Going through a couple of reputable recruitment agencies but most the stuff they flag is only covering parts of my skill set and not what I really want to do (though some of it pays well)

Annoying and frustrating situation, can probably survive until March but if I have nothing then it will be problem time! :(

Long story short; half-hour telephone interview (which I conducted in a snow-covered car park) and a week later I was going to the offices to meet the departmental managers & director. They offered me the job that afternoon and I started the 2nd week of Jan!

11 months in and my 12month contract has just been converted to a permenant one with a useful payrise on the side. So I'm a happy chappy just in time for xmas.

As an aside, we're currently recruiting Software Developers and Test Automation Speacialists with Microsoft.NET, C# or Delphi experience for Reigate, Epsom or Cambridge. If you're interested or know anyone, let me know.

Positivity!^^

Public sector can pay well! I don't know if schools are the same as colleges and Unis pay wise but the one I have applied for is considerably higher starting salary than the private sector one I am non now!

This one doesn't

I started on less money, only reason it on this much now is because i said I was going to leave because I couldn't survive!

Sucks really, as the job is okay, I just need more pay, but it's not going to happen because it's all done by pay bands and stuff...And the only way you go up a pay band is by having different responsibility's...I've already taken on the schools website / VLE as well as the helpdesk :o

The only good thing about our jobs is security, in a time when people are being made redundant left right n center we're generally fairly safe, most schools are under staff and over worked in IT departments as it is.

I've been looking at other jobs lately, applied for one at a logistics company (they do warehousing space and logistics i think) working in their headquarters. Not heard anything back yet about whether i'll get an interview or not though, fingers crossed anyway as the money is significantly better.

Alternatively i'm waiting for my manager to retire/go back to Australia so i can have his job and the money that comes with it.

EDIT: and i agree, the pay is awful. IT staff in schools are seen as "run around and change toners" type of people, that was true 5 years or more ago but today they are far more technical and require much greater knowledge than the old days. Sadly pay has never come in line with that requirement.

Indeed, does my head in. When I first joined, the job I took over was just that, a VERY low end position.

But because I came from an 'all line' helpdesk company previously, I just took on every job, and now end up doing most things. And on top of that as said, im running the website as well :p

But yes, it is job security, but still, im struggling if im honest. Having to move back in with the ladys parents and everything after xmas

I'm in pretty much exactly the same position really, a bit luckier in that i'm in the senior tech role but still with a child etc it's not enough money to live on properly.

Albeit my problems are partially self inflicted due to a very poor choice in the past, stuck with a mortgage on a flat that i can't get rid of and can't live in because the space is too small for 3 people :( Forced to let it out and lose money on it every month.

I've been searching for a job now for 6 months, and the JC STILL haven't managed to sort out my claim so I'm penniless as well to add insult to injury.
I'm starting to feel utterly useless, and have stared questioning my own abilities which sucks, and am generally feeling quite lost!
I know that I want to learn more about active directory and networking as that's where I am seriously lacking in practical experience, and have nearly 8 years of experience of general troubleshooting, repairs and viral removal, custom builds etc, but am buggered if I know where to start.
Working in somewhere like a school, or college sounds ideal from a job security and training stand point, but positions seem to be vastly lacking in my area.

Anyone else have any ideas? I know I'm good in retail sales as I've been there and done that for a number of years, but really don't see a future in going back to doing what I was doing (mobile phone retail management)
