Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I have a 2 day work trial at an housing association tomorrow. Wasn't really an interview as such beforehand, more of a quick chat. I don't really know what to expect if I'm honest!

I had feedback today from a first interview recently and the feedback was very positive. I have a 2nd interview next week and I was told it’s between myself and another candidate who didn’t do so well on the 1st interview but was better than other people they saw so we're both shortlisted with me on the frontline!

I’ve been told that the positive parts they liked me were overall presentation, honesty about weaknesses and positive attitude on what I wanted from the position. I asked them if they had any reservations having heard my words and read about me on paper and I felt they were transparent about what was on offer and their long term goals for the new department too.

Anyway, it’s looking good so far and if I do land it then then many good things will come about of it:

1: More money (always good :p).
2: No need to drive to work, will be able to take the ferry and saves me quite a lot of money each month.
3: Prospects within the organisation, the managers said they want to bring someone in and take them up to senior level and the starting salary is quite handsome as well.
4: Plan on buying a new house so this can only strengthen that!

My current position is good, I enjoy my work and the job is also secure because I’m not easily replaced given the systems being used and my familiarity with them. The downside here is lack of long term progression and lack of pay increase.
They do look after me so if I am successful in the 2nd interview then I have a few people in mind that can replace me at this company who will be suitable and I can spend the notice period training them up. I don’t like to leave people disappointed and I’d feel better knowing that the systems would be in good hands if I leave.

So yes, touching wood!

Had an interview yesterday morning. Only the second proper interview I've ever had, it went ok. I did stumble a few times, due to nerves but I think I conveyed how suitable I'd be for the job.

Having a job already makes going for interviews soooo much easier, I was so much calmer than I was expecting knowing it wasn't particularly important if I didn't get it.

I do enjoy my job but I've being stagnating a bit, 2.5 years on a first job after uni is a fair while. The new job is pretty much the same but with the chance to take a more lead role on projects - which is exactly what I'm looking for.

35% increase in salary and 50 (yes, five zero) days holiday! 37.5 hour weeks. With a chance to get a bit of worldwide travel - German, Japan, USA :)

Fingers crossed!

Ive just been called into the office after a meeting and been offered a 35% pay increase to go to a bigger place and manage the team there.

Obviously said yes! So happy!

Following on from my previous posts, got one more day left of my notice. Thankfully they have taken it very well and understand fully why I am leaving, they were just abit shocked.

Start my new job Monday :O Very excited! Moving to my new digs on saturday. Can't believe that 2 weeks ago I had no idea that I would be sacking my job in for a better one in a completely different part of the country.

Well I originally got the job where I am now on a temporary basis and my time there was meant to end at the end of August last year, but I'm still here. Two other people who were on similar contracts to me left in August and I was asked to stay on until Christmas which I was fine with. Christmas came and I'd heard nothing so I spoke to the Human Resources lady who said that I could stay on until the end of January.

So, the end of January has been and gone and the Human Resources lady spoke to me a couple of weeks ago concerning my contract and gave me the news I was both happy and not so happy about. She said I was finally leaving on the 17th February.

Roll on to today and I get called into the General Managers office and it turns out that because a couple of people are retiring in March and other people are switching jobs/changing hours he'd like me to stay on indeffinitely with a trial run for a couple of weeks to see how I get on with getting to work through all of the traffic in the morning which he is fully aware of and hates as much as anyone else. I start work at 10am at the moment and the traffic gets pretty stop-start towards the end anyway and it seems to double in volume each hour earlier you hit it.

So on Monday I start my (new??) job. 9-5 instead of 10-2. I'll miss the lazy-ish mornings getting up and the afternoons getting odd jobs around the house done, but I've got to get a full-time job sooner or later.

Hm, I need to get searching again...Not enough money here (yeah yeah, be happy) :p

More money is always good :p Or at least the prospect of getting more money each year! Problem here is the pay has not increased in 3 years yet the cost of living has so in effect we're being paid less each year whereas up until 3 years ago there were bonuses, yearly increases etc.

Such is "the climate", or so they say :p

Well, certainly not getting any more each year.

So move time it is sadly :(...I hate moving, wish I could stay somewhere for once

well after my emails to chris grayling and then jobcenter hq i get a phone call today from my local jobcenter about when i sign tomorow.

they claim to have an advisor who will be able to put me in contact with two groups who should be able to help me.

this is the same advisor i saw at the end of last year who just had a go at me for not knowing what i want to do and suggesting i should go on the sick for 13 weeks to get me off there books ?!

talk about feeling like being passed piller to post.

Not all bad mate, pick up guitar or something or do some self study with all the free time. :p

Whats the longest some of you guys have been on JSA? what happens if you are on it for like a year +.

yeah im looking at trying to find something i can do on the side. but like most things its all very slow and will take time to get any money coming in.

i saw this next step advisor last week 30 mins of getting to know who i am, got a skills test in 2 weeks see what comes from that, but in her own words one thing getting an idea of what training to get but its another thing to get funding.

Well had a call out of the blue today from a large well known IT company who I had some interviews with last year but the position was pulled at the last minute.

Seems they have an opening again and are contacting preferred previous candidates to try and fast track it. Took some details about what I had been doing since we last spoke (9 months or so ago), details of my current package and what I'd want and said they'll let me know in a couple of days.

Not sure how I'm feeling about it really, on the one hand they are a global name in IT and it's a managerial position with a healthy pay rise, on the other hand I've only been in my current role for 3 months and it's not bad, but not great.

Guess I'll just see what happens, end of the day I've got a job that whilst isn't amazing at the moment has a lot of potential...

If it's 3 months then surely you're still on probation so you can leave at any time with immediate notice (or 1 week at most anyway)?

I had feedback from my interview now in full and it was 100% positive. I was very pleased with this and they said I was suited for the company and the role and they had no reservations.

During the interview I explained everything to them, why I'm looking to change employer, what I didn't like about my current position and what my eventual goals are which they seemed very keen to hear.

It's also the first time I've not worn a full suit but just waistcoat, shirt+tie and matching trousers. I was a bit nervous because I wasn't sure if it would put forward the wrong idea, I was going for smart/formal but different to stand out from the other candidate on a first impression, maybe this worked :p

I have a final 3rd interview next week and they said it would only be 30mins and that I would have a definite answer the following day. I have a feeling this 3rd interview may well be to discuss what kind of package I am after and other job details as they've already tested me for the role and asked what there is to ask. The only other thing it could be is to meet the CEO and other dept heads for them to quiz me I guess.

Either way, it's still looking good and I wish you guys luck in yours as well!

It's not the leaving notice thing that's bothering me, just the fact it's another job where I'll have left pretty early on as I'd have been offered something much better :p

And whilst I have pretty much zero responsibility and pressure where I am now it's also not challenging me one bit, yet I get feedback quite regularly saying how well I'm doing and how happy they are with me.

Job before my current one I was only there 5 months before being 'hunted' for my current one. :p

Anyway not like they've even offered me anything yet but will see, would be tempting though.

So one reason for me not getting a job was because I didnt give confident enough answers in the interview, one example being I didn't make enough eye contact with the interviewer. I can specifically remember one point during the interview thinking 'I think im staring at her too much, I need to start looking away a bit more'. Boooo and meh :( (and no she wasnt hot either :( )

You get used to it with time man! How many interviews have you had so far? It doesn't matter if your answers seem like they lack confidence because if you've got direct eye contact with them it will give the impression of confidence so whatever you say will have a better impact, unless you completely duff it up of course :p

In my 2nd interview I noticed a few of my answers had slight pauses and I even thought for a few seconds before answering but all the while I had eye contact with both the interviewers.

It's also worth noting that when you're coming up with answers don't look up towards the right, this is often seen as an indicator of deception, that you're trying to construct a scenario. I don't know exactly how true this is in the real world but having a quick Google shows it to be widely accepted.

I learnt this from watching Lie To me, a thoroughly cool series and teaches quite a bit about behaviour :p
