Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Sometimes you've just got to suck it up and ask for the leave. If you haven't got any then it's sicky time unless you've got a decent boss who appreciates you're considering moving on.

I don't have any annual leave, as I get school holidays off.

I hate doing that, I have a conscience for some reason

Tell your current employer that you are looking.

Thats what I did, I also think legally they cannot fire you for going to other interviews?

could be wrong though? Either way Honesty is always the best polocy

I guess...

My boss in general should be okay really, he's not overly bothered normally.

Ahh bummer. I guess you're best off approaching your boss then. As Musty Pie said, I doubt very much they can fire you for attending an interview, just be up front and clear that you're seeking other work.

The time you end up taking might have to be unpaid but you've got to make those sacrifices I suppose.

You get used to it with time man! How many interviews have you had so far? It doesn't matter if your answers seem like they lack confidence because if you've got direct eye contact with them it will give the impression of confidence so whatever you say will have a better impact, unless you completely duff it up of course :p

In my 2nd interview I noticed a few of my answers had slight pauses and I even thought for a few seconds before answering but all the while I had eye contact with both the interviewers.

It's also worth noting that when you're coming up with answers don't look up towards the right, this is often seen as an indicator of deception, that you're trying to construct a scenario. I don't know exactly how true this is in the real world but having a quick Google shows it to be widely accepted.

I learnt this from watching Lie To me, a thoroughly cool series and teaches quite a bit about behaviour :p

Thanks for the advice, it was the first interview for that particular role (after telephone interview which I had passed). Previous to that I have had 2 other interviews for seperate roles over the past few weeks.

I had another interview yesterday with another company though and took your advice and hopefully showed more confidence...I think it went pretty well, only question that stumped me was them asking ME what salary am I looking for...I hate that question, I would rather they told me what they are prepared to offer! Cos now im thinking maybe the figure I gave was a bit low, as I didnt want to brush them off with a big request!

Had another (telephone) interview for yet another role yesterday too, which went really well, so Im hoping to get one of them..

Aye, should an interview come along I'll just ask :)

I am in a job but went to the most grueling interview of my life today.

One hour of exams followed by a 90 minute interview by FOUR people. My CV got taken to pieces bit by bit. I got taken to pieces. My answers got taken to pieces. Answers to my answers got taken to pieces. I even had to do a 5 minute presentation at the start about why they should hire me.

It was like being on The Apprentice and at one point I remember biting my lip and then tasting blood for the next 5!

How do I feel it went? Ok. I hope. :(

Was this a company in Reading?

Surely so much faff isn't needed to judge a person's capability for a role and their character!?

I'm bloody fed up job hunting.
One place I really wanted actually got back in touch and said the reason they didnt offer an interview was because I didn't highlight my transferable skills enough in the statement part of the job application. I've worked for this company for the past 4years doing summer stuff. This was a longer 30week contract.

I've also found two jobs I like the sounds of and going by the pay level it's my experience level too. But it's one of those ones where you have to be unemployed for 6months, hoping that cause I had to leave one career due to health reasons that may be an other viable thing to see if I am "eligable to apply"

As an interviewer, I like The "What salary are you looking for?" question as I want to a) see if you have an awareness of what the Market value is for the role and b) how much you value yourself in particular if you under or over value yourself.

Had an interview with Total E&P UK on Monday and they rang me today offering the job.

Woohoooo! :D

Only just seen this, London, Abz, Paris?

What position?

And congrats!!!!!!!!!11

I'm currently 2 hrs heli ride NE of Abz sitting on a Semi-Sub watching Dexter. Fun times earning a day rate catching up on Dexter :D

Hmmmmm...I appear to be being pestered...lol

Had a phone call the other day that I missed about a Job, saying i'm ideal etc...Then had an email about an hour later giving me the job spec etc saying im ideal please get back to them (the agents)...Not sure If I want to apply though as it's a bit of a trek for me each day.....hmmmmmmmmmm

Nice to see some links in the first post. Im currently looking for a job in IT (Technican/Network/Web Design(Not so confident as the other two choices)). Its so hard finding a job with training and I can't get funded for any other courses because I have a BTEC National so the job centre say this is enough.

Had an interview yesterday morning. Only the second proper interview I've ever had, it went ok. I did stumble a few times, due to nerves but I think I conveyed how suitable I'd be for the job.

Having a job already makes going for interviews soooo much easier, I was so much calmer than I was expecting knowing it wasn't particularly important if I didn't get it.

I do enjoy my job but I've being stagnating a bit, 2.5 years on a first job after uni is a fair while. The new job is pretty much the same but with the chance to take a more lead role on projects - which is exactly what I'm looking for.

35% increase in salary and 50 (yes, five zero) days holiday! 37.5 hour weeks. With a chance to get a bit of worldwide travel - German, Japan, USA :)

Fingers crossed!

Didn't get it :(

Decent feedback though,

Between me and 1 other candidate. Liked me, skills wise I was great, but I seemed like I didn't want the job enough - which is probably true, I was much more at ease knowing I already have a job. I need to act more desperate :)

I've been applying to design jobs like a madman for the past two months. I have applied to 100+ and had 8 interviews. I am currently waiting on hearing back the results from a second stage interview I had last week, but I don't think I'll get it. There are just too many people up here looking for too few jobs, and any little thing can make you 'unsuitable' next to another candidate. I can totally sympathise with anyone else getting frustrated at the job search right now. It's a real pain in the backside.

If I don't get something soon I'll have to move to London. I can't waste time treading water up here much longer :(

Cheers, it's based in Aberdeen :). Working in the Production and Well Performance dept as a Hydrocarbon Allocations Engineer. Will be a bit more process engineering orientated which is what I wanted, and will also get to go offshore from time to time which should be good experience.

I can't remember, what exactly is your role/job again (apart from watching Dexter :p)?

I recently had a job interview with Bioware Ireland, went through 3 stages of online interviews, passed the 1st two and then got an email 2days later after the last skype interview saying I didn't get the job, was gutted for about an hour or two then was passed it.

Was a nice job but some things don't always work in your favour. I'm hoping to get back into Education come September as my life has many unanswered questions about the future :p
