Forgot how bad job searching was :(

just keep at it buddy, and do not let it get to you :)

Keep positive, and as long as you are doing as much as you can do, then don't worry. Look for some part time work as well

Thanks :)

Still been applying like crazy the last couple of days, must have applied for like 10 jobs on Friday alone. Had a bit of feedback from various employers just letting me know that they have reviewed my CV/short-listed me on the candidate list and may contact me within the next few days to arrange for an interview. Still, it's a positive start though. :)

Got an interview at my local job centre tomorrow for JSA too.

Man reading all these posts make me realise how lucky I am to even be working. I still remember how happy I was when I was offered my current job. And yet I wasn't sure what to think because it was my first job.

I think it can be difficult for those in 'bad' jobs when the situation is as bad as it is. You can feel guilty for wanting to leave while so many people are struggling to get a job in the first place. And then you have to consider how long it might take you to find work and if you can 'afford' it. It does put these people in majorly stressful/unsuitable jobs in a difficult position, a lot of whom might in other circumstances leave for their health, are staying and suffering as a result.

So i've brushed up my CV - be good to have some feedback from you kind folks? :)

1st, I love the justify tool ;) First thing I did and it looks much neater.

2nd, Other comments, I understand why you have the "Interests" section, but I think you could use it to sell yourself a bit more.Your 'once in a lifetime trip' across the US was an 'amazing experience'. Tell us what skills it invovled (planning, organisation, etc) and make it "relevant". Further, I don't know if we need to know that you're an avid film goer. Thats more subjective though.

Jesus, I thought it was just me...

I have some part time jobs but nowhere near enough hours. Consider myself lucky to have that.

I did quit my last job though 3 years of a total a-hole of a boss was enough for me. Luckily I had enough money put aside so as not to worry where the next mortgage payment was coming from.

I do get by, but money is tight.

Well after 18 months job hunting since my postgrad graduation, I finally landed the sort of job I was looking for. Today was my first day as a Credit Risk Analyst for Three (the mobile phone company). Totally overwhelmed by the amount of information thrown at me today, but looking forward to getting to grips with everything and really getting involved in the role.

I had applied for every type of job possible, from a receptionist to train conductor, anything just to get out of retail. In the end I got the one job I thought I had no chance of getting :)

What sort of postgrad degree did you have? & from where?

Just wondering how it helped/effected your job hunt.

MSc in Risk Management from Glasgow Caledonian.

For most of the jobs I applied for they were more interested in my undergraduate degree. However, for the job I got, they were very interested as it was relevant to the role.

Mostly the questions were about why I chose to do it and what have I gained from it.

Well a happy day for me,i was made redundant at the end of May,fabricator/welder making curved stairlifts,i'm 57 years of age,and really thought my working life was at an end.
Went for my first job interview today,START IN THE MORNING,well chuffed, wish me luck all.

So I recently lost my job (second time this year) and I'm back on the hunt again. Something I've noticed this time though is recruiters asking me to, and I quote; "...could you please send me a quick email along the lines of “I am happy for x to represent me for this vacancy at y”

Is this a new legal requirement, or am I somehow tying myself into something nasty?

It's a pretty scummy tactic actually.

The recruiters do this so they have "ownership" (for want of a better term) of you as a candidate. I was told by my mate who works in recruitment that generally a recruiter will do this if they have better candidates than you but feel you could get the job. What they will do is put forward people who they think are better (with no intention of putting you forward) and if anyone else puts you forward they can wave this email in other recruiters faces so they can they either get the fee or the other recruiter drops you. Essentially its a tactic to remove you from the job and stop someone else putting you forward to guarantee they get a placement.

If someone asks to do this tell them to **** off.

In other news start my new job Monday, cannot wait! It's the ideal role for me and can't wait to get stuck in and at the rate the company is expanding get my face in the frame for future growth!

how the heck do i get motivation to apply for jobs? :( i seem to be very demotivated.. i know i have little chance of getting the jobs im applying for even tho they are simple by the description(office junior/admins assistant etc) but i just cant motivate my self to apply for them.. :/ i have been in the current job which is stable yet the hours are changing weekly.. one week ill work 8 the next 20 :/ its getting on my nerves and i need to move on but i can't for the love of god motivate my self and im getting really annoyed with this.. :/

i am thinking of setting a simple target for my self lets say "10 applications a week" and i would try to get to that number i guess that would motivate me but i just can't get the first "kick" up my butt... ah :(

so yeah how do you motivate your self when deep inside you know that 95% of the time the employee won't even bother replying with a no to your application.?!

Submit one. Have a fap. Repeat ad nauseum (quite literally).

When I've been in the position where I need another job rather than want one I've just hammered the applications on the basis of that I need to. If I don't I won't have a job, that was the motivation for me!

I can't even think how many positions I must have applied for over the 6 months when I was waiting for my redundancy, just used to hammer the job sites daily and anything that was relevant was applied for.

Just got out of an interview with trinity mirror digital recruitment for a sales exec position, and I'm feeling pretty confident. Was a group thing where we had to come up with a product and present it dragons den style. Then we did one on one role play selling a product, then a panel interview. It's been a long day, but I should hear back by the end of the week. Got the interview through randstad who were quite helpful so worth ringing them up and asking to meet them for a chat. Fingers crossed!

All the best of luck mate :)

Still searching here. However, their was one job on Reed that I was very keen on applying for but the only thing that put me off was that their was over 90+ people who had already applied for the role

That was 3 days ago, then out of the blue yesterday evening a recruitment officer who works for the organization that is advertising the job role emailed me directly to say that they viewed my profile on Reed and wanted me to apply for the role & arrange for an interview!

Not getting my hopes up yet as for all I know they could still interview 20+ other people, but could possibly be a good sign for me?

Today I was at something in Middlesbrough ; Triage.
I just wanted to die.
So unorganized there was a bunch of us filling in these forms, and some of these were the typical dosser types.
A chav scum couple being overly loud, a guy who you could very clearly see was coming down from drugs, was literally falling apart in front of us.

Being it was that poorly organised they couldn't do the one to one's with us (Which I didn't mind)

The building was overly crowded, I didn't even bother to get my 3.40 travel refund, isn't worth being stood with absolute wasters.

Think their intention is to force you to take any job via being uncomfortable :p

The most annoying part is there's a variant of it in Redcar which is a walk away, why on Earth send me to the Middlesbrough one? Urgh.

They wanted our CV's, so I took in my printed one, they want them electronically, you're not allowed to use USB pens or optical storage due to data protection act, viruses etc, but you're fine to use your E-mail, given Hotmail etc have skydrives what's the different using the skydrive to go D/L a bunch of viruses from your Skydrive lol?
