It's what the job centre referred me to, although it is the Work Programme and I've been on 6 months.

I've never felt quite so out of place as I have at the work programme.

Ideally I should have gone to Uni, I'm educated enough, but I figured I'd get out there, struggle with the job climate now and get into employment so that I'm able to earn cash and not be full with student debts.

i know what you mean about feeling out of place. the only 2 sessions iv had is a induction in which 7 didnt turn up. and a cv workshop which was a hour of trying not to stand out too much with the questions or the idiotic team icebreaker tests.

iv been on this one since april, and im on it for 2 years if i dont get work sorted and the way things are looking i very well could end up on it that long :S

Yeah, we've been told 2 years too.
I'm 100% sure I know/have seen the lass/woman who was giving us the "induction"
I've heard her voice before and the very same manner.

"We're laid back"
"If there's someone a few years from retirement I let them crack on with it"

I facepalmed.

I'm literally considering taking anything just so I'm not subject to that level of awkwardness again, I despise crowds at the best of times.

yeah two of the staff on this one are ex jobcenter staff which doesnt fill me with confedence as far as how helpfull they could be, as if there too poor to work at the jobcenter how bad can they really be :(

I got the job! Wooooooooooooo!

So I won't be back in this thread for a while I hope. Just wanted to say stick with it and you'll get there eventually. After 2 months of spamming out CVS and registering online with agencies, what worked for me was ringing up an agency and arranging an appointment. From there I was put forward for this job and now I have it :D So try getting in peoples faces to differentiate yourself if you haven't already. Good luck guys!

Congrats mate.

So far I've applied for 27 jobs since I was made redundant in May (OK, a few were a little before that). So far I've got back:

3 interviews, of which: 1 failed, 1 unknown (after nearly four weeks), 1 still to come.
2 rejections.
22 no responses. To be fair, several of them are pretty recent. As I've said elsewhere, the ones which bug me are those were the application is electronic, but they still don't say that you've been rejected. It surely can't be that hard or time-consuming to send electronic rejections? But I've found only one company which does this. Although at least some do say how it takes them to respond, so you know when to write them off. But one company still hasn't looked at applications from a month ago (I have reasonably reliably been informed).

So my temporary contract ends next week.

The company I was temping for was the worst i've ever come across, I was a "Data Administrator", but I felt I could have managed the people better, absolutely shocking and their staff retention is literally 0. There's only 2 permanent staff on the floor I'm on, the rest are temps.

Anyways, I need to be at a job where I can progress within and develop, where I am now that's it. You're not progressing anywhere unless you're a director.

However my main issue is I don't know what career path to do. I literally have an interest in everything, media, film, music, IT, technology etc.

How can I show you guys my CV by the way for some criticism?

Cheers :)

and this is why the temp work directive falls down, 12 weeks and out the door you go rather than pay you a full time wage and hire some more min wage monkeys and repeat.

Yeah exactly. I couldn't believe their staff retention, there was literally a "goodbye" card each week. A manager came to my "team" today about the work and said jesus we need to hire more people, he didn't even know they were getting rid of 2 of us on our team (both started the same day). Their communication is beyond terrible.

Really struggling with a career path though :(

i know the feeling, having to jack in doing physical work thanks to health issues works wonders for making you feel a tad pointless.

Had my first ever job interview Tuesday morning, I feel it went pretty well. All the staff seemed to like me and I think I had good answers for the manager (as well as a good talk). Was told they'd get to me Thursday or Friday, so I'm hoping I get a call tomorrow!

Today I was at something in Middlesbrough ; Triage.
I just wanted to die.
So unorganized there was a bunch of us filling in these forms, and some of these were the typical dosser types.
A chav scum couple being overly loud, a guy who you could very clearly see was coming down from drugs, was literally falling apart in front of us.

Being it was that poorly organised they couldn't do the one to one's with us (Which I didn't mind)

The building was overly crowded, I didn't even bother to get my 3.40 travel refund, isn't worth being stood with absolute wasters.

Think their intention is to force you to take any job via being uncomfortable :p

The most annoying part is there's a variant of it in Redcar which is a walk away, why on Earth send me to the Middlesbrough one? Urgh.

They wanted our CV's, so I took in my printed one, they want them electronically, you're not allowed to use USB pens or optical storage due to data protection act, viruses etc, but you're fine to use your E-mail, given Hotmail etc have skydrives what's the different using the skydrive to go D/L a bunch of viruses from your Skydrive lol?

I know exactly what you mean, i go to the Avanta offices in Redcar was supposed to be there for a jobsearch today (basically sat on a computer for 1hr looking at jobs i have already applied for or seen on my own computer at home) so i went in as usual to be told it had been cancelled, wtf i thought, no phone call, email nothing, just a sorry.

Be different if i had cancelled my appointments, there would be hell on.

Be glad when i do get a job, these people who are contracted in have no clue whatsoever, all the time i have been with them they have offered me 2 vacancies to apply for, got an application in at minute fingers crossed i get to interview, if i do i reckon i will get it.
