Start my new job tomorrow. Fortunately or unfortunately it's for a competitor of OcUK.
Exactly - doing RMAs and Fault-testing with a bit of system building thrown in.
In true my-kinda-luck style this job has messed me around. I interviewed for the above, for the technical role, I showed that I could do the technical role. Then for some reason they have no stuck me in customer support, which is what I don't want to do.
Looking for another job after less than a week here, the only saving grace is hearing how Overclockers 'rob' all the stock before anyone else can get it. OcUK is well hated where I work.
Recieved, signed and returned my contract yesterday
Bump, as this appears to be the official job seeking thread.
I'm seeking something temporary - interview tomorrow for an admin role using excell which I've been swatting up on today. The pay is so miserably poor - sub £15kpa
Good luck!
I remember my first full time job which paid £12,400 and then after 2 years had a massive, massive pay rise to....£13,400
Was glad to get out of that even though it gained me a lot of valuable experience!
I've actually applied to a new job now as my current one is not maxing out my capabilities and doesn't have any scope to expand either both financially and role wise so I've applied to a University which, if successful, should see me through for a very long time
Public sector can pay well! I don't know if schools are the same as colleges and Unis pay wise but the one I have applied for is considerably higher starting salary than the private sector one I am non now!
The only good thing about our jobs is security, in a time when people are being made redundant left right n center we're generally fairly safe, most schools are under staff and over worked in IT departments as it is.
I've been looking at other jobs lately, applied for one at a logistics company (they do warehousing space and logistics i think) working in their headquarters. Not heard anything back yet about whether i'll get an interview or not though, fingers crossed anyway as the money is significantly better.
Alternatively i'm waiting for my manager to retire/go back to Australia so i can have his job and the money that comes with it.
EDIT: and i agree, the pay is awful. IT staff in schools are seen as "run around and change toners" type of people, that was true 5 years or more ago but today they are far more technical and require much greater knowledge than the old days. Sadly pay has never come in line with that requirement.
It's partly just that, but it's also down to the type of work being different, but will see how it goes.
Luckily I think the other door is still ajar for me, originally they couldn't offer any more progress until the new year anyway, so can always see if they are wanting to make a firm offer in a few months.
What do you do though, job you would like more but that really affects the home life, or an easy job that could be boring, but you get your personal/home life back.
Company I'm at is massive so probably plenty of opportunities in future, and the money isn't exactly terrible
yes they can, thats what she was doing.
iv gone through a few of these sodding books and she says they need the ref number. like i said there idiots who do exactly what there told to, rather than think a little bit.
after speaking to the manager there a few months ago i get the feeling its the same through out the jobcenter they all seem to have a instant view that your scum and trying it on.
I had an interview for a placement with a very well known computing company in Belfast on Friday.
Was one of the best interviews i've had, totally laid back and we were chatting and bantering, the time flew by.
Got a call a few hours later offering me a placement So happy now I can look forward to something, its in the vein of hardware which I love, hate coding and programming, so excited!
