Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Anyone else ever been worried about quitting a job? I currently work for a small company (8 people), but I applied for my dream job on the off chance which I didnt think I had a chance in hell of getting, and totally nailed it. As I have been working at my current job less than 6 months, I only have to give a weeks notice as stated in my contract. My new job want me to start Feb 6th, so I am handing in my notice this friday. However, I feel awful that I am quitting on short notice as they are OBLIVIOUS, and feel awful about increasing everyones work load as they will never find a replacement in a week for my job.

I know it's myself I have to think about, as this is my career I am deciding on, but I just feel like I am really screwing them over. This new job is closer to my girlfriend, better money, much better prospects and generally a very very bright future, so I am 100% handing in notice this Friday.

Advice please :(

Advice? Just do what you're already going to do really :p

It will be annoying, I've had to leave previously and put people in the deep, but sometimes it needs to be done. You've basically given yourself a perfect scenario there for leaving, you aren't just doing it for the hell of it.

Hopefully people will actually be nice and ask why you are leaving? Atleast you have something to explain to them, ie dream job it's closer to the lady etc etc.

Congrats mate :) I need to be leaving my place, purely for money purposes (i'm on like -13K currently) and its not going up anytime soon...Soon as I do though, it's going to be hell for them as theres things I do no one else has much of a clue on

If you were a company looking for an agency to handle your vacancies, you'd want one who will vet candidates personally (that's one of the things you pay for). It's good practice as well (interview wise) and gives you a chance to build a rapport with an agency if you then keep in regular contact.

But yeah, it is annoying :)

I'd understand if it was a pre-interview or something

But when they get you in just to fill out a form....

Been in a job only 5 months and just got another job offer for 10% more salary in a nicer location. Thing is I quite like my job while the work in the new job doesn't excite me at all, but I need the pay rise as I can't pay the bills atm. Also can't see myself settling in this area without a long commute whereas the other job is in a much better place to live.

Not sure whether to explain this to my boss and see if they will raise my salary or just jump ship on the basis of money and location. Instinct is telling me to stick where I am but then my instinct told me to move to High Wycombe which hasn't been a good move at all tbh.

In the same situation as me really with regards to salary.

Apply to the other job, and perhaps talk to your boss, say you are struggling with money etc etc, see what happens.

Ahh bummer. I guess you're best off approaching your boss then. As Musty Pie said, I doubt very much they can fire you for attending an interview, just be up front and clear that you're seeking other work.

The time you end up taking might have to be unpaid but you've got to make those sacrifices I suppose.

Aye, should an interview come along I'll just ask :)

Well...I've replied anyway...What the hell eh? :P

Does my head in that kind of thing...'Entry Level'...By entry level I would take that as 'trainee' or someone who have a relevant 'qualification' in C++ or something...Not 2 year comercial experience using it =/

Hm...I've recently been told about a job, and the agency have given me the company details and everything...Whats stopping me going directly? :p

Naturally the agency may have already passed your details on....But you know

EDIT: I'm not going to do it, but you do wonder sometimes
