Had an interview with Total E&P UK on Monday and they rang me today offering the job.
Woooooo!
Anyone else ever been worried about quitting a job? I currently work for a small company (8 people), but I applied for my dream job on the off chance which I didnt think I had a chance in hell of getting, and totally nailed it. As I have been working at my current job less than 6 months, I only have to give a weeks notice as stated in my contract. My new job want me to start Feb 6th, so I am handing in my notice this friday. However, I feel awful that I am quitting on short notice as they are OBLIVIOUS, and feel awful about increasing everyones work load as they will never find a replacement in a week for my job.
I know it's myself I have to think about, as this is my career I am deciding on, but I just feel like I am really screwing them over. This new job is closer to my girlfriend, better money, much better prospects and generally a very very bright future, so I am 100% handing in notice this Friday.
Advice please
More money is always good Or at least the prospect of getting more money each year!
If you were a company looking for an agency to handle your vacancies, you'd want one who will vet candidates personally (that's one of the things you pay for). It's good practice as well (interview wise) and gives you a chance to build a rapport with an agency if you then keep in regular contact.
But yeah, it is annoying
Been in a job only 5 months and just got another job offer for 10% more salary in a nicer location. Thing is I quite like my job while the work in the new job doesn't excite me at all, but I need the pay rise as I can't pay the bills atm. Also can't see myself settling in this area without a long commute whereas the other job is in a much better place to live.
Not sure whether to explain this to my boss and see if they will raise my salary or just jump ship on the basis of money and location. Instinct is telling me to stick where I am but then my instinct told me to move to High Wycombe which hasn't been a good move at all tbh.
Sometimes you've just got to suck it up and ask for the leave. If you haven't got any then it's sicky time unless you've got a decent boss who appreciates you're considering moving on.
Tell your current employer that you are looking.
Thats what I did, I also think legally they cannot fire you for going to other interviews?
could be wrong though? Either way Honesty is always the best polocy
Ahh bummer. I guess you're best off approaching your boss then. As Musty Pie said, I doubt very much they can fire you for attending an interview, just be up front and clear that you're seeking other work.
The time you end up taking might have to be unpaid but you've got to make those sacrifices I suppose.
Hmmmmm...I appear to be being pestered...lol
Had a phone call the other day that I missed about a Job, saying i'm ideal etc...Then had an email about an hour later giving me the job spec etc saying im ideal please get back to them (the agents)...Not sure If I want to apply though as it's a bit of a trek for me each day.....hmmmmmmmmmm
