Forgot how bad job searching was :(

A commercial law firm [/serious face]

I wish!

Oh dear god - i know EXACTLY what you will be going through then.. My girlf is now a solicitor but my god getting the job she has now was certainly a struggle.

Laws a bitch - seems to me that if you know the right people, can afford a ludicrous amount of money for 'training' and have a very assured sense of self belief you can possibly get a job.

Nealry all of my mates from uni (graduated june 2008) who did law dont have jobs yet because simply, there are SO many people studying law because its fashionable without an ounce of knowledge as to how damned difficult it is to get a law job afterwards. Still, gives then something snotty to rant on about for 4years whilst at uni. I should know - my girlf bangs on and on about it all the damn time.

Retail stores, 90% of the time, use application forms. ;)

Well they didn't give me one and ask me to fill it out ;) Gap I applied online technically but wonderbra just took my CV

You'd be surprised how many retail stores take your CV's rather than make you do an app ;) Try to think before you try to be smart ;)

Don't know about WB, I take it they specialise in lingerie type stuff?

Thats fine, but how do you know they won't get binned before the manager looks at them? ;)

When stores give out application forms I still ask them if they'd like a copy of my CV aswell.

All the outlets I personally know of use forms, even the little coffee shop locally does that.

Haha, well thank you for your sympathies. Here's hoping! Glad to hear your girlfriend landed a job, I'm jealous :)

Got the job, wahey! :D

£750 bonus everytime i pass a microsoft exam too!

So damn happy, good luck to everyone still trying. Hang on in there :)

Awesome man :) Congratulations.

Cheers though, something tells me I will be here a long while yet.

Well after a few days of casual looking; I have reached the conclusion that there is absolutely sod all of interest in the job market.

A few days? Try a few months matey! Then you'll realise how naff the job market is at the moment :p...Especially if you don't have specific skill sets or experience! ;)

Ah well.

Awesome RIS!

I decided not to pursue the job. The role is ok, but the market it's in isn't one I want to be in. I got the feeling the HR guy was actually impressed.

On the downside, a late night mulling that decision over and the intense gym session this morning has left me tired and with writers block for the CV rework. :( So an early night tonight and a real focus day tomorrow.

Platypus - don't give up, hammer the job applications now rather than later because with all the applications and budgets it's all taking a lot longer to sign off new roles and filter through the mass of applications.
I've had applications take over a month to come back with a response. I'm guessing on average it's 2 months lead time so stick with it.

Another option is to go contracting - role turn around is between 2 days - 2 weeks.

Absolutely, nail everyone! only 8-9 months till the next round of graduates come through, and some of them will be applying months in advance.

1 week tomorrow till my first day :)

btw, I know potentially everyone on here is a threat in the interview/job world, but id recommend a book called "brilliant interview" available from a rainforest shop. It gives the most asked questions with the most powerful answers, and a lot of miscellaneous tips & extras. It deffo got me my job offer without a doubt.
