Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Well... got up yesterday at 0320, on the 0427 train into london, 0650 Eurostar to Brussels, arrived there 1030 local time. Had interviews with the CEO, COO, head of product management and another product manager. Got the 1856 Eurostar back to london, arrived home at about 2230.

Should know next week if they are interested in the next phase (HR)..

Seemed to go very well (the COO said he could see I'd done a lot on the CV hence we talked about astronomy (his request) and the product manager described my understanding of the subject as "impressive"), although the role is someone I can do the company is needs to look at new ideas and I think the CEO, COO and the product manager really got the new ideas I was discussing the head of product management was less enamoured so probably showing him up a little... it may be I'm too interested in the new ideas rather than just expanding their existing product coverage... don't know.. will have to see.

Got a phone interview today with the "Head of" for a bank this afternoon after passing the large number of friday interviews...

I'd say good luck but you probably won't need it, sounds like you've got it nailed down.

I didn't want to believe that, or at least, couldn't afford to think that way.

That said, I was interviewed this morning and offered it this afternoon so well chuffed :D

Had an email from my line manager today - looks like the company are going to come after me for the training courses they paid for. Fair enough, it was in the policy and I agreed to it, was hoping they'd write the costs off as a goodwill gesture but doesn't look like that is going to happen. Going to be interesting because I simply don't have £4500 to be able to pay them!

Not sure on legality but I'd expect it to be docked from your final paycheck.

Well the Brussels company thought my understanding of the subject was excellent but felt I talked too much and pointed out spelling mistakes on the CV (I use tailored CVs so these mistakes only affect this one company) .. upon investigating the OSX MS Word spell check completes and says everything is ok - but the application attempts to access the dictionary service at MS, fails and then gives a false result! (way to go!)

Anyways.. one more in the pipeline, I think it's better and I was more enthusiastic about it. That one is confirmed waiting on internal people..

Think I have an excuse for a beer.. and tomorrow it's back on the application wagon without the spelling check issues!

Can I read into your post that they're not taking the application further? If so, surely not on the basis of spelling mistakes on the CV - After all, they'd have seen that before any face-to-face (let alone one requiring travelling to Belgium!).

Yup, 2x skype video calls and four f2f whilst over there (CEO, COO, hiring manager and existing manager that I would have been taking over from) whilst over there and that's a rejection.

Sorry - missed the bit out on the post that they thought I was a bit too verbose for them. The agent indicated they've rejected people before for not being blunt and to the point. However the chat with CEO,COO and PM were great... all engaged and supported the ideas of options for growing the business. Head of product gave a set of points to think for that, but I think he didn't like the thinking of new business (rather than just continuing only on the existing set roadmap).

However that's the reason for interviews - both testing the skills but also checking if the person fits with your existing team.

Does anyone know how to stop the DWP jobsearch website from sending me any more mails! I've got a bloody job now! :D

I'd not rely on spell checking anyway - people can still make plenty of mistakes like using 'there' instead of 'their' which won't necessarily be flagged.

I'm normally very good with that. I'm the person that still battles the phone to with full words and sentences (including full stop).

Well, I have a job interview on the 29th for an IT Support Analyst at a local college. Seeing as IT is the path I want to take career wise after being made redundant in my old job this would be an awesome starting point.

Had a interview on Wednesday just gone for technical support with a telematics company. Its just the 20 mile each way that I'm not too keen on.

Finally some feedback from the long application - all good, so the hiring manager wants a final face-to-face this week :D So lots of prep and fingers crossed.

Well I got pipped to the post on the IT Support role at the college. Managed to get to the final 2 out of 8 candidates on the day, but someone already doing a similar role got it. Great experience mind and gives me an idea on what to focus on when applying for these types of roles.

All is not lost though, got a call for a second job i applied for which is similar and have an interview next week.

Well, sounds and looks like there are going to be no promotions or pay rises here at our place...Looks like my plan of staying two years and seeing how things pan out is coming true in terms of moving on, best spice the CV up I guess....Shame.

8th interview... and in the coffee shop got offered the job :D

So a large, old, global company doing interesting things... should be interesting...
