Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I applied to many jobs this week, with it being the start of the month there's fresh meat.

I applied for one role that is a really interesting role, would have great impact on the direction of university students - courses and research areas. It also means you have the right to be called Professor :D

No idea what the job market is like in Wales, I take it trainee-type positions are thin on the ground?

Yeah there doesn't seem to be a lot of choice at the moment, particularly in Swansea. There are more oppourtunities in Cardiff so I may have to consider travelling there to get some work.

I have however found an advertisment for a trainee recruitment consultant which interests me, need to sort my CV out then I'm gonna apply.

Well I have another interview tomorrow - just an HR and the boss.

Another recruiter making very positive sounds with another opportunity.

In the meantime I've been applying like crazy - two more today (requiring adjustments to the CV and cover letters take time :/).

I seem to be getting quite a few recruiters interested, so the momentum is building but it can take a while for the companies to respond.

Cool, hope it all goes well for you man :)

Things are looking up in my current job as I have 34.5 hours next week :D

Gonna apply for a job at Admiral though because they are taking a few people on here and the pay is good and they are supposed to be excellent to work for.

Well the interview was good - although I'm not about to count my chickens. The role is really a fresh new area for the company as they're growing into multiple countries. The market is something would be something new for me too (aviation).

I've heard in the meantime that Skype have rejected me as product manager :( :D As I have missed yesterday due to the interview it means I have 8 applications todo today! I am getting faster at the whole process but it can get to the point when you go blind looking at the screen!

Hehe just learnt that I've been asked for set of interviews early next week with a different company. :D These I'll be bricking, as they'll be technically based!

started applying for jobs today.
my contract ends on 22nd of DEC with NHS and we've been told there is no funding to extend any of the 4 contracts that run out on that date.

sadly it's not even rudundant!
we need MORE staff but fundings been moved away from our dep in the trust. we've lost our team leader, deputy team leader (who has been replaced by a guy who's not managed to get to work on time once so far), 2 members of staff have not been replaced since they left in aug (sickness + moving to another dep) and there are 3 of us leaving in Dec due to this funding issue
by my calc that makes us 7 seats down out of a team of 18 or so lol
remaining staff are NOT happy but needless to say that we are even less so!
just gonna have to apply for everything I can :(
talked to boss about it but she just said "you knew it was a 6 month contract when you joined". well yeah but EVEYONES on 6-12 month contracts and they have been here YEARS.
best bit, I was only just getting back on my feet (and out of debt) from LAST time I was made redundant in JANUARY this year!

Sorry to hear that Vent. A contractor mate has been extended till next year (transport rather than NHS) but he was concerned as they were also making the same noises.

The only advice is that you need to start now and really get on top of all the jobs being offered. I do between 4-8 job applications/day with tailored cover letter and adjusted CV.

Your brain starts to sizzle after a while too and applications start to suffer as you spend more and more time copy and pasting replies from other similar applications...:(:o

Well I had an interview yesterday and today for a big toy store, pretty much the first local job I applied for. I can't see me not getting the job tbh which is pretty good. However on tuesday I got a phonecall from an oil service company so am heading to London at the end of next week for an interview. The pay's not brilliant, but as the woman said on the phone it's a started job, and it's in the right vein for what I want to do so hopefully I'll get it and get a quick promotion.:D

I've given up on agencies however, either local or technical (although local in particular), the local ones either downright refused my CV (Reed for one) or took them and I haven't heard from them since, this just reinforces the opinion I already had about them.:p

My mum is attempting to send me to the Antarctic with some suggestions - I have to reminder her that (a) there's no chance of finding a girlfriend on a block of ice and (b) even less chance to keep a home going..
Would be awesome on the CV though :D

Yeah I hate the customisation and it's part of the reason I keep to 4-5 applications/day otherwise that blank-page-boredom comes out in the correspondence even when you really want the job. Usually I look at the jobs for that day and take the top 5, then I'll keep the others and add them to the next day in a rolling set. That way you're applying for the ones you want and if there's any lull you still have 4-5 to apply for.

I feel there's a lot of competition so they're quick to reject applications on a first pass unless you've really got them interested. Also I feel unless the recruiter knows you're a dead certain revenue earner then they'll just concentrate on someone else. If you want the job you'll have to badger the recruiter and convince them you're the one they will sell to their client.

Big popular names like Skype and Google etc are going to be overloaded with applications and they'll keep the spot open for applications rather than select someone that doesn't fit their exact requirements. Annoying but it is an employer's market unless you're "the one"...

I registered a CV with the BAS last year... Unfortunately in the sort of field I would work they are almost certainly looking for post doctorates so a feeble graduate has no chance, however you never know, maybe one day i'll get the call to go join them for a few months.:D

I do a similar thing, have a notepad for companies of interest and a notepad for those done (not job specific) then just update either/both depending on what i've done that day. I've been in a bit of a lag this week, with the toy shop interview and the other interview next week i'm feeling quietly confident that i'll at least have an ok job shortly, so applications will just be those of interest not every one. Having said that next week may be a big push, sending out loads of refreshed CV's to companies I've sent them to a ouple of months ago. And the positive is I finally signed up to JSA a couple of weeks ago, and it looks like i'll get a job before my first payment comes through! :D

I think that's the difference between someone with a few years experience and lots of skills and a new graduate, with so many high profit clients around why bother with the graduates who aren't going to make them much. :)

Well Amp, a friend of my mum at teaching college years ago sent a letter that basically said "I've just finished teaching college, I'm interested in adventure and what can you use me for?".. he never made it into teaching, has a large house and had a life of adventure!

Well the phone interview for the technical side seem to go well and the guy seemed very positive, although taking two ProPlus before the call wasn't the best idea to combat morning after birthday (talking for too long!).. so if they progress it'll be a chat face to face next.. finger crossed!

Good luck. Well, you're doing better than me anyway..

Well I've heard back from the previous interview - I made it to the last selection but they went for the guy with more commercial experience. Grrr! :D
