Forgot how bad job searching was :(

The trouble is Labour have set up a whole bunch of "training" schemes at great expense to the tax payer which consists of 30-40 chavs in a school-like room sending out CV's to anyone and everyone for 8hrs a day, every day for weeks on end.

My place of work doesn't bother sending out replies either because they get so many hopelessly bad applications that it'd take a part time employee just to sift though them all, infact usually they just bin applications on sight now if they aren't addressed to a specific person.

If you are a smartly dressed person (ie. not a chav) you would probably have more success handing out CV's in person and just kindly asking them if they could keep your CV on file. :)

We're talking about NHS applications specifically, which are done through the same online system. They don't take paper forms or CVs, in fact pretty much none of the public sector organisations take CVs.

It's an online form though, hardly difficult to have an automated response. It wouldn't be so annoying if it was a more simple application. If the local mobile phone store manager bothers to write to me then I'm sure the NHS can change the settings on their auto-responder...

I've done a few online forms as well and other than the occasional "thanks for applying" I never hear anything again.

Problem is, unless I fly all over the world I can't do that. However I guess a trip up to Aberdeen may be starting to become unavoidable.:(

Well I started looking in earnest this morning and have been contacted by two agencies wanting to put me forwards for interview.

One is for a Senior Business Manager at a high street bank.

The other is for a National Account Manager for a large solicitors firm.

Don't really want either

The best reply I got from them was "Dear Sir, Thank you for your application for XYZ job. We regret to inform you that you were not successful on this occasion" and so on. Not much point wasting time on the long application form when I could be applying to an organisation that actually values real talent.

you say this but you only need fill it out ONCE, you can submit it as many times as you like. also I've had interviews for EVERY application I've submitted there.
tbh just buzzword it up! they have keywords it searches for and pops up.

It really is the best application system I've used - especially when it comes to making multiple applications.

I lack experience in the public sector or medicine or management, that'll be why...

Just got another interview for next week. The job sounds ok but there are a few problems, one getting to the interview, it seems to be miles from anywhere and I can't drive (although there is a local bus route so not too bad).

The big problem however is it's in a totally different part of the country and I don't know if I would/could take the job even if I was offered it. Salary wise I'm not certain but I think it'll be around 18k, really enough to rent a house/flat, bills and buy and run a car miles from home (not to mention moving somewhere totally different away from anyone I know)?

It's also likely to be a 9-5 office job which means I won't be able to see my GF for more than a day a week (same journey time from there or here, 5 hours each way), which is quite important to me.

Going to go anyway as at least it will be some experience but i'm not holding my hopes up and hoping that another interview/job offer will be coming in the near future so its not quite as hard a decision...

You life involves many things - a job is one, girlfriend, friends etc are the others..

I think mid way through feb I'll start searching for another job based on the time it takes to get anywhere. The contract I'm on now is only 3 months and I've not heard or seen anything that makes me think they have a long term position available. However it does give me something additional for the CV.

And so I need to sort out what is more important to me. Going to go see how interesting the job is, if it isn't really appealing and i'm offered the job then i'll turn it down, if it is very interesting then i'll have to seriously look at moving.

Just had some cracking news this morning. Iv been off work since last April. Just got offered a Warehouse Assistant post!!! Which is fantastic especially the way Businesses are going down the pan in N.Ireland atm
Start September only Temporary to January but with a view for permanent post.
Can't explain how happy I am now getting off the dole heap :D

Little update xmas is gone and the good news is they are keeping me on but on a 6 month trail as a relief van driver :)

I really enjoy my work also. So if all goes to plan and no mishaps I get a permamanet place and might put me though lvg/forklift test etc :)

Well, just had a telephone interview for another job, dunno how it went so hopefully i'll hear good news at the end of the week for a proper interview.

Think I put my foot in it pay wise though. After the 10 minutes of mentioning benefits and positives, then saying he doesn't have any definate figures at the moment he mentioned a wage of around £18k, however it was in bits (two parts to the salary, day pay and month pay) so I got the basic calcs a bit wrong and mentioned that a similar company were offering £12k... Guessing it'll have to be "discussed" more at a face to face... :p (didn't help he was putting the wage down so it set me up for it being as poor as the other pay!)

So anyone else still looking?

Looking! LOL

like busses, all of sudden ive got them left right and centre.

2 different offers from work but also been accepted for cable&wireless grad scheme.
Im taking the C&W offer.

Good stuff! C&W sounds interesting :)

I've had a few calls asking for immediate starts while being here so had to turn them down as I've now been bought from the agency by my employer and am now on full time with them \m/
