Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Got the job, wahey! :D

£750 bonus everytime i pass a microsoft exam too!

So damn happy, good luck to everyone still trying. Hang on in there :)

Awesome man :) Congratulations.

Cheers though, something tells me I will be here a long while yet.

Well after a few days of casual looking; I have reached the conclusion that there is absolutely sod all of interest in the job market.

A few days? Try a few months matey! Then you'll realise how naff the job market is at the moment :p...Especially if you don't have specific skill sets or experience! ;)

Ah well.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of qualifications do you have?

Naff all, some GCSE's, went into work straight after school as I didn't get into sixth form...Stayed in that company for just over 5 years, then got made redundant last year.

Currently waiting for an NVQ in business development or something from an employer I worked at for 4 months earlier in the year as well...but that's going to take a while to come though apparently.

Take it from me, having a full set of GCSEs and A-levels is almost worthless in the current market (except for English, Maths and maybe Science GCSE). If you've got 5 years of relevant experience then I can't fathom why there'd be a problem.

I know :(

It didn't help the fact I couldn't get a job within the IT industry when I was made redundant. Hey ho, what can you do :)

Managed to apply for one job today, out of like 30 odd pages worth :p

I put my CV on monster recently and have been getting quite a few emails and phone calls from various recruitment agencies / graduate recruitment agencies, does anyone know if these are worthwhile?

I'm hoping for replies from actual companies that Ive applied for not recruitment firms but if they are good I guess I could let them help should I get back to them that im interested?

Not many companies recruit themselves nowadays to be perfectly, they all use agencies now...which yes, is highly annoying, as you normally get a pay cut, and constantly have to go through them all the time...But hey.

It is annoying when you do a job search, and the results are something lik 800 from recruiter, and about 10 from actual companies :p

It's how it is currently sadly.

I just got called into a small meeting today at my new place I started 2 months ago and was asked how I felt about havign some more responsibility over the company systems, I said I liked to get my hands dirty so it sounded good!

So now I'm joining forces with one of the other sysadmin guys and learning sysadmin as well as the usual project stuff :D

Good stuff I say!

That's brilliant man :) Extra responsibility is always welcome I say if you are comfortable with it.

Nice sig btw the way to go slightely off topic :)

I got a call from a recruiter the other day for a job I applied for, hopefully he's going to send my CV on, then (hopefully) I'll get an interview.

It's only a service desk analyst role, but yay if so :)

Well, it's my assessment centre tommorrow for another training contract with a regional firm. I haven't worked as hard at this one as for my previous one, but since they havn't set any tasks knowing what to work on has been perplexing. As such, I feel that I have done little preparation and I really hope it doesn't show me up. Fortuantly I have had work experience there so I might have an edge over other applicants when talking about the firm.

It's also worth £25k in sponsorship, so here's hoping eh?

Heres hoping indeed :)

Hopefully it favours in your way.

Glad people are progressing :)

I'm hoping something I forwarded my CV to the other day takes me up on an interview....Otherwise I've been promised a job in Wickes to tide me over :p

I said that ;)

The uncertainty of temporary work isn't ideal though.

Indeed...However I hope you aren't referring to the tempory work I was offered at the metal works, as I couldn't go back there due to not wanting to damage my ears and aggrevate my tinnitus even more :)

It's not ideal no, but finding a full time job with prospects untill atleast Christmas is not easy atm

Cool, wasent having a dig/moan if it came across like that :p
What about this job in Wickes you mentioned? You know someone there?

Yeah, my friend is a type of manager there, I did fill in the application form and everything, but when he handed it to his boss, he got me to forward it on to this IT company...So hey! :p

That's a point, I got a phone call from them today...And I got the dreaded "tell s about yourself question" ...Absoloutely hate those, but he says I sound good, just i'll be joining as a trainee, which is fine be me considering most of the work i've done hasen't been support or 'specifically' field engineer work as such...

So I really am hoping, it sounds rite up my street :(

That, and its about half an hour away, which is just awesome, and the roads didn't seem to bad before when I was driving to my previous company everyday.

Well I have my first job interview lined up :)

Small company (my previous product targets almost equate to their yearly revenue) but it's close and it will be a nice change from large organisations and completely different market too :D

Best of luck buddy :)..Small, tight nit companys are awesome to work for.

That's another advantage you have over me, your own transport. It certainly opens up a lot more job opportunities.

Apologies for asking, if you don't wish to answer then far enough. :)

But is there a 'reason' you can't drive? Like eye site or something? Or is it a mixture of costs and never having the funds to get round to doing it?

Hopefully I get my phone call today! :D...I might just cry otherwise

That. Insurance is a big hit for under 25s, and (here's the catch 22) my jobs never paid well enough to afford one.

Hah, I hear you, Insurance was horrible when I first started :p (18 or something?)...It's not so bad now at 23 with the no claims

If you went third part fire and theft on a workable car it wouldnt be too bad, someone i know my age just insured and its £200 for the year, so it can be done.

Managed to have a car and stuff on under 12k, granted a lot of it went on the car, but hey, having other dependcies etc doesn't help towards car funds...So hopefully you get something that can help towards that.

Is there no where commutable on bus? When I started my first 'proper' job I had to get a bus that took over an hour there and about 2 hours on the way back :p

Oh, just had an interview as well for a local company, seemed to go really well...They have two people leaving by the end of the month (companys is rather small in regards to employee size) so hopefully there aren't many applicants.

Sounds rite up my street and all...nice and varied.

You need to look at London rents and then get back to me on that ;)

Well yes...I wasn't referring to rent, I was refferring to the cost of running a car :)...Hence I said about other costs being a bit of a factor for you.

The employers inflexible attitude is a problem. They don't want to deal with people who use public transport, at least when it comes to IT. I've even had this issue with regular office jobs in a fixed location. Obviously their opinion is what decides the successful applicant...

Bit weird...Never had that issue, my old place didn't mind at all, maybe as I was young at the time. Just need to find a decent enough company mate, at the end of the day if you can show you have worked your butt off in previous companys then hey.

Good luck :)

Thanks :)

Good news...Got the job! Start Monday........So yay! Happy as larry! :D
