At the moment it seems hard to even get the recruiter to talk to you. I got my interview last week because I was one of the few who bothered to pick up the phone (or in his words "can pick up the phone").

I then called other recruiters three days running and was blown off by reception every time.

I've spoken to a few recruiters when I've rang them about jobs and they're all send me your CV and we'll sort it out, never hear from them again.

I have a question for those on monster (and I assume other places) when you upload your CV, what does it look when you click view in the site? My CV in Word looks quite neat and tidy, I have 3 on Monster and only one goes over one page, they're all quite neat and in paragraphs etc. but when I click view it just looks terrible, its just the text, thats it, no underline, no bold, no spaces even between lines.

Is that just the way it shows it to you or is that how employers see it as well? If so how do you get it to look proper?

Christ what a depressing 6 months I had last year job searching while helping out at a charity shop to bolster the CV, I'm probably younger than you but it was no fun, still it was the end of my "dark days" since finishing school.

Can only reiterate and agree with the people here, give every application your all and hopefully one or two will pick you up, I only got two interviews in 6 months and got the second one, only two people went for it so I was very lucky.

I gave every application my all and to not even hear from 97% of companies is very demoralising, but keep your chin up mate and don't be afraid to sign on if you need it, it's been tarnished by the people that don't really use their benefits properly so don't let it put you off because it sounds like you are the person they were aimed at really.

Good to see people have been getting jobs anyway :)

I'm just getting nothing back at the moment...Resorting to see if there is temp work in a bar/restaurant place near me =/...Something I really do not want to do, but you know.

I don't know if it's my lack of experience or lack of qualifications letting me down now! I won't just 'give up'...But it is tiresome looking at the same jobs day in day out...Truth is though I don't know what I'm actually capable of in all honesty :(...So support work it probably is...However I'm not even getting bites from the ones I've applied for so far.

hey ho.

Had no joy myself since the last post above...:(

Anyone else having any more luck? It's getting to the point where I'm just looking at the same pages every day.

Doing the same thing, although I'm waiting to hear back from two interviews. One was a recruiter coming to me, as it was literally the exact same role which I had just left, for a very similar company, and the other I got the door open through my dad.

A few mates and I are in the process of setting up our own business; we've had a few ideas knocking around since our time at uni together, and pretty much figure that now is as good a time as any to try. Even if we don't make any money, it's going to be better than what I'm doing right now!!!

That's what I need to do really, need to get some form of cash rolling in.

Be ncie to have my own computer company or something, but I can't see that happening.

Still nothing here, more aimless looking again today for me.

I've been unemployed since finishing Uni last year, only just the other day got a job with Sainsbury's as a Team Leader. Problem is, I've just had a phonecall from the job centre inviting me to an interview on Saturday for an admin position they need filled for 13 weeks. I'd much rather work in an office than a supermarket and the pay is quite a bit better too, which is important because I need to pay rent, bills etc, but obviously it only being temporary means I could be back to square one in three months time.

Don't really know what to do, I think I'll go for the interview though and see what happens.

By all means go for the interview, and see how it goes, what the company is about, then maybe see if the role could go permanent...or if the contract may turn into a rolling one depending on work load etc...You never know :)

On a side note from this morning, I got a call earlier for a temp job for a week or so (depending on how busy they stay) for a metal pressing type company who just need an extra pair of hands...I am wondering what they want me to do, considering on my CV it doesn't state I have any metal work experience as such...So we'll see.

More than willing to learn though :) And it will be some money for a short period at least, and something to add to the CV.

Having a chat later this evening, so I'll see how it goes.

Once again, good luck all.

Nice one, good luck with that. :) I've just had a callback from them wanting an answer, and I've decided to take their offer of the interview. We'll see how it goes, and if nothing else it's a bit more interview experience which I could definitely benefit from.

Still nothing here, after another ~50 applications so far this week. "Gateway to Work" hasn't helped too much (apart from the possibility of getting a job with the providers the government pays to deliver these schemes).

Why did you wait a year before doing that then?

Grr, this sort of thing really bugs me; it's hard enough to find something I want to do without sifting through all sorts of irrelevant rubbish. Why is it that there is not one decent recruitment website? One of them even limits your covering letter to 1000 characters (not words, CHARACTERS!) How can you fit a half decent covering letter into that?

well my interview for general manager of a new kitchen place on friday in nottingham, luckily i know a woman who said i could move in with her there if i get the job as it will mean relocating, so at least thats another barrier out of the way.

This is only my second interview in 4 months, first one was at stockport college and it got down to between me and another guy and he got it.

Well I guess i'm technically unemployed at the moment. I finished Uni last month and have been mooching around a bit while I search for some jobs. Luckily I now live at home so outlays are minimal so i'm not desperatly in need of a job. I've applied for around 20 jobs (and spammed various companies) but have only had rejections so far, generally saying they aren't employing. Even the company I did an internship with isn't at the moment which is a pain. However I have got a couple of one day things lined up with family and aquaintences which should bring in a bit of money, and I have a voluntary thing I'm doing at the end of September so it's not all waste.

What most annoys me is the agencies, most seem to be rubbish, and more importantly for me hide the company they are recruiting for (obviously), which means the difficulty I have is finding companies in the areas I want to work (Oil, Gas and exploration), I've resorted to Wikipedia and google to find companies after doing the main ones. It also looks like i'll need to do a masters (which I was thinking of doing anyway), so that will have to wait until next year as I can't afford it at the moment, unless I do a funded PHD...

As for other recruitment sites, at the moment I have my CV put up on a few more specialist sites (such as Oilcareers), is there much point putting it up on places like monster (other than for a bit of exposure)? I can't see there being many oil jobs on there?
