Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Nice lil story, glad you found a job though, hopefully this one holds out for you :)

I've heard nothing back yet, so going to be looking again shortly for more to apply for :(...Sadly can't really apply for those London ones, no where near me really...Hopefully someone else can!

Good luck all.

I'll be seeing a recruiter on Friday. He tells me that he has a relationship with the employer, which is good if true.

well i applied for a job this morning and they called me 20mins after inviting me to interview so either they read it really quick and like the sound of me or they're inviting anyone, it was for a general managers position

Awesome, hope it goes well anyway.

Hah, either way you're one step closer! Always good :)

Just got a call actually for a temp role, so I'll see how thatgoes...Sadly a bit on the cheap side but hey...

Another annoying factor is I'm supposed to be going on holiday at the end of the month for a week :( Don't really want to have to cancel and do everyone else over.

I don't understand how people can live off jobseekers. The jobseekers allowance wouldn't even cover HALF of what I'm paying in rent alone. Let alone bills and food. How do people do it?

Anyway, I know jobhunting sucks - I had to do it this time last year. Happily I was able to live at my parent's place while doing that. I did have the incomparable pleasure of turning down 2 job offers.

Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit. I applied about a month ago for those while on JSA. Haven't heard anything from them yet, thankfully I found a job though.

I was being really lazy with my job hunting but when I found a slither of something I kept bugging Job Centre to put me on a work trial and they did and I got the job on the spot when I did it.

Hope it all goes well matey :)

Got to go in tomorrow to register to another agency =/...SO annoying, why can't they just find you a job? without fathing around :p

Thanks. Have you done or applied for a work trial? I think they are a step closer then just simply applying and a good chance for the employer to interview you too informally.

I would if I ever got to see the employer's at this point! Everything goes through an agencey :(

You see a job...you apply for it, agency ring's up - "Hey you sound like a god candidate yada yada, you need to come in and register with us befre we can shw your interest to the employer" =/....It's just annoying :(

I called my local Reed branch today to arrange to come in and register. They told me as a graduate with only some experience there is no point as more experienced people will get the jobs. That's reassuring!

I almost would rather tell people i was unemployed rather than on the dole :(

I don't understand this at all. I've paid my taxes, if I was ever eligible for benefits I'd certainly take them. If you had a child would you reject the child allowance? It's the same thing. In the UK you are eligible for job seekers allowance.

When my girlfriend went in looking for summer work the agencies quite rude and short, and told her the graduates needed the jobs more than she does.

For the record, graduates get JSA, students do not. Idiots.

I'd welcome the money, if only I didn't have to go into the damn place every two weeks with a slip of paper telling them what I've been doing for those two weeks =/...I've paid taxes for a fair few years, why can't I just get some allowance without fathing around? I have to spend money on petrol at the end of the day getting to the damn place! :p

On a side note, went to another agency this morning to sign up as I applied for a job through the...It's just so pointless :9...They already have my CV, with all my skills on and experience, what else do they need? =/

Had no joy myself since the last post above...:(

Anyone else having any more luck? It's getting to the point where I'm just looking at the same pages every day.

It is all luck if you get a reasonable and open minded interviewer, you can have a great CV and ace the interviews but another candidate could come along and have a microscopic amount more experience and get the job in many instances.

Been through that too many times but thankfully, finally, the last interview I went for 6ish weeks ago the employer gave me an opportunity even though the other candidates had more experience!

Keep at it though. My Gmail's Job Apps label scrolls 3 revolutions of my mouse wheel, that is how many jobs I applied to in May and I ended up getting the job for the last interview I went for!

Had I not got it I am not sure what I would have done as even as an IT contractor at the time it was hard finding contract work!

Contracting no more though :)

Whats harder to appreciate at the moment is that for every one vacancy there are approximately two thousand applicants.

Not only do you need to really hit your marks now with a potential employer but law of averages says a good few others will do the same. So you do need a great deal of luck, and whatever you can do to swing that will help you. Giving up is not an option really when bills are coming in regularly, mortgages, insurances and in some cases families... All that.

Agencies can be a blessing or a complete pain in the backside. One agency in the digital graphics industry is so dominant, yet they are almost completely useless with regard to industry knowledge and expertise. It's very annoying that sometimes you simply have to go through the motions with an agency prior to finding your own way without them.

All in all though, at the moment and as we all know for some considerable time to come, it's going to be a rough ride. Your best shot, and I mean, your very best efforts to secure new work and (in my case) new clients is the only real way ahead.

It's horrible, even with a years placement with a good company I am struggling. I don't think after getting a degree and a years placement experience I should be getting offered 14k for a Sharepoint Analyst :(

That's pretty harsh. MOSS is it? Though to be honest I doubt I would hire a graduate for such a role, I would want someone with at least a years experience depending on the job requirements. But I suppose thats a chicken and egg situation for grads!

When I graduated with a 1st in Computer Science in 2001 no company would even look at me, i couldn't get an interview after applying for every developer job i saw on jobserve and cwjobs. In the end I had to start doing temporary office work, but after 3 months or so I landed a temp role at the FSA and was able to apply for a developer job internally, and got it.

In my experience grads can tend to aim too high which doesn't help their chances. You really do have to start low and work your way up. Unfortuantely, a degree doesn't mean jack all these days so expect the real work to being once you've graduated!
