Forgot how bad job searching was :(

Well ive been scouting the site but nothing is standing out to get questions from

As its an induction i would have thought they cover all basics of what they are / want etc.

Got an interview/meeting with someone from an agency regarding a job at lloyds tsb on monday. Should be interesting as I have already passed the initial process/application so now I've filled out some more forms that I have to take on monday.

There is a hell of a lot of hoops to jump through to a get a job in a bank and its only a contract for 3-6 months. :o

Been emailed about a job not too far away (35 miles) that sounds ideal bar the pay being a bit low. About 10k less than I'm on now, but imho a much better career move so worth applying.

It's also currently only open to existing civil servants so reduces the competition a little :p

i've decided that i can no longer carry on the 100 mile a day slog to work, and the fact that come early next year I may not have a job anyway.

I found a role that is 2 1/2 miles from home which I know I could walk into and do a really good job on. Sent CV and then followed it up with a call to the agentcy. Chaps out so leave a message. Call at the end of the day, he's still out. Call the next day, he's out again... and so on and so forth.

What I have found incredibly rude is when you aren't successful, but the agency can't be bothered to call you to tell you. So you're left hanging. I had this last week, was expecting to hear back by monday afternoon, heard nothing. Called agency, left message for agent to call me, no call back. Called 3 more times leaving 3 more messages. The send email on the wednesday and got back that she had just got off the phone from the client and i wasn't successful. Rubbish, it was simply that she couldn't be bothered to call me back as I wasn't about the earn her the comission her whole life depends on! if I ever meet her in person ... Fist -> ovaries!

I'm going down the route of contacting local companies now as I'm close to Bracknell, Reading etc and there are a good few decent sized managed services companies based around here. I really cannot be bothered with agencies anymore.

welcome to using agencies Robday, they dont really care unless they can sell or hire you out.

so when you dont get a job you aint all that important to them as you didnt make them money.

same reason i detest using them really.

Tell me about it, I had an interview in August and had been strung along by the recruiter lady until last week saying yeah they want to get you back, just waiting for more info (for 3 months??).

So I emailed one of the managers directly at the company who had the position available just asking what was going on.

I got a call back from the recruitment agency sharpish, but this time from someone else there rather than the lady I'd been dealing with.

He said no I didn't get any further after that interview and they didn't want me back, never had done!

So no idea why the woman kept saying the opposite, I asked the guy why she had been saying what she had and he just kept saying I'm sorry but I am not privvy to any of your convesations.

Said I'd happily forward on all the email correspondance and wondered if he was concerned that one of his staff was working in this manner, but he really wasn't interested so can only assume it's how they do things there.

So in summary, as I've said before, a lot of recruiters are scum, but there are also some stars out there :)

Most recruiters are selfish, If you are not of use to them they treat you like a worthless piece of crap. Dont ever make the mistake of thinking they are your friend because they are not, all they care about is commision.
You get some who ring you up and ask "so where have you had interviews at so far", dont ever tell them, they just want to call up that company and place one of their own people there.

The last time I turned down an agency the woman treated it like I'd just dumped her. It was amazing.

The worst agency recruiter experience I had was with Michael Page. When I told them my salary expectation was 25k they laughed down the phone nearly. "25k for a graduate? Where did you get that idea from?" The following week I got above that salary from someone else, stuff them :)

Good advice.

I have noticed that generally whenever people become establish in whatever field, they feel secure, their attitude changes and they treat you as a lowly person if you are not up to their 'perceived' standard. Imagine if these recruiters were made unemployed, they would be wandering the streets begging even for low paid jobs.

Just an indirect example. The lehman brothers was one of the top global financial institution during it's era and yet with vicissitudes of time, the bank got closed and so many workers got thrown out.
Likewise it can happen to recruitment agencies aswell, so atleast treat the jobseekers with respect instead of contempt.

Well went to Saga this morning and started 20min late (1015AM). Sat down and they gave a briefing of what we will be doing if we get the job - Sales (over the phone) selling motor and house insurance! Right away i thought NO way is this for me... Did the Aptitude/Responce tests that everyone has to do. And didn't pass... Glad in a way as i couldn't have stuck with that job.

Meh back to Sainsburys Wednesday!

Well I found out about the job I was interview on Friday for, I got offered a position and start on Monday. Current work place aren't too happy about the short noticed but, if they don't treat their staff right they can't expect the staff to do them a favour. So happy finally get to start my chosen career path.

Had my first day today :) Hmm it was ok I guess better than the last job and I at least have a job so can't complain, no getting up at 6am anymore, it's local :D and I handle lots of zotac products, testing systems and answer tech support emails so I could think of worse things to do, not a career but it will do for now. And no annoying co-workers just a nice boss :D

Started my temp job at Phones 4 U last week, I keep getting asked to do the hand gestures by my family and friends :) It's a good place though, I enjoy it when it's busy and the other people who work there are nice and friendly.

When you say zotac products do mean like the graphics card company or am I completely wrong? :o

Yup, so graphics cards, motherboards and mini pc's. Whilst it may produce a boner for some, I can hardly say it does much for me. I would prefer to be outside or something I dunnno. But like I said it's not too bad for a first fulltime.

The smaller agencies that were around many years ago were a lot better than the bigger ones today. When I applied for a warehouse temp job in 2002 they use to ring me everyday to check that I could make it to work and even gave me a lift sometimes when I couldn't get in. I guess there was a shortage of workers for these jobs then so employees were more valued, even for the crummy jobs.

They went bust a few years later and so I got shifted to one of the bigger agencies. Luckily I was made full time around then so it didn't matter.

I've been going through interviews for about a week now. Trying to get myself a 6 month work placement, I need to get one as part of my university course between my 3rd and 4th year. Had a phone interview with a Google software engineer today, have to say I've never been so nervous in my life! I've got an interview at Bloomberg tomorrow also for a software engineering role and im ****ting it!
