Forgot how bad job searching was :(

I left college in June and went straight into a temporary office job for a few months and got a bit of money but I'd really rather save that for when it's really needed.

Yep I've saved up money from my past two jobs where I was a contractor and really trying not to spend any of it. :o

Well had my first proper interview since April (had a quick phonecall for a volunteering position I did but doesn't really count). I'm on a Masters at the moment so april-now isn't too bad though.

Hate interviews but at least this was fairly informal and on campus. However as it's a supermajor it means it's just the first step... various other interviews and trips etc before you get even close to the job and that's if you even get past the first hurdle (all who applied on my course had interviews so not much selection yet).

It's rather depressing that you're competing for about 10 places (less than the year before, which was half of the year before that) and competing against half of europe... We had a company come in and give us a recruitment presentation last week. Someone asked the presenters how many people they were looking to employ (big company as well), the presenter said "Around 2"...

Got contacted by an employer that previously didn't hire me as they took part time. Out of the blue a phone call, had a second interview and I start next week. £14k, 15min bike ride, 9-5 and working with zotac products generally on my own. So ima happy chappy :D!

Sweet :)

I'm begining to think about whether or not I need to keep looking, I really cannot live properly on this amount of money at the moment, so we'll see what happens

When I was looking

1) About 9/10 applications didn't even write back to say 'no'.
2) About 1 in every 35 applications ended in interview
3) Only about 50% of interviews bothered even contacting to say 'nope'

:(

When my mate told me this was normal nowadays it perked me up a little. Before then I thought I was just totally hopeless :/

I was turned down for a lovely telecoms job last week as although they liked me, they said I was over-qualified and too experienced and the job was beneath me - couldn't believe it...every IT job I go for I've not enough experience so I can't win.

An agency has got me an interview for a php developer role on Thursday, but having just been given the job spec (after being told I have the interview) there's no way they'll ever give me the job as it's a senior role and I've nowhere near the skills or experience they want.

Indeed, more than normal nowadays man, especially with online applications, most written letter ones try to write back

he means there's 10,000 vacancies:p

Meh, oh well

Although I already have a job in retail, I have an interview for a position as a Help desk Analyst tomorrow, doing my research on the company just now. Really excited, my friend handed my CV into their HR on Monday and they got in contact with me on the Tuesday. Here's hoping I can finally get out of retail.

I'm getting quite down about it now when I shouldn't be :(

Fed up of lying scum recruiters, but have met some good ones too

Weird thing is I have around 18months still in current job before redundancy kicks in, so at least I've got time and shouldn't worry as much, but can't help it. Not a fan of the uncertainty, which is really weird as if I were back contracting I probably wouldn't care!

Just been stressing me out this week whilst I'm off on leave, cannot find anything within 100 miles that is suitable :(

Had a call about a contract today, job sounded very good but only for 3 months, and in Slough :(

Applied for a position at Saga - Customer Sales Agent aparently my application has been forward to the application inspector etc!

Just have to wait and see if i get an interview!

Given you have a week off and 18 months to find a job, I'd say enjoy that week and forget about finding work. You'll have plenty of time to resume looking.

Also don't forget to send CVs/letters to companies without listed positions. Some will hold it on record even if they have no vacancies now.

Chrikey, best of luck though :)

hours are odd I've heard, nice early days :p

Cheers. I've got an interview with them on the 25th!!!!!
Also, got an interview for a new local greggs on Monday, its only part time but i'm still gonna go and see what they say.
What do i do if Greggs offer me a job there and then even though I'd rather take the posty job if i can get it after my interview on the 25th ?

Got another 2 weeks off in 2 weeks time as well lol.

I know it shouldn't be bothering me, yet, plus if I am still there at the end there's a nice redundancy package waiting, but can't help it :(

Thanks!

Had a phone call at 2:40pm today to invite me to an induction at Saga HQ!

So going there Monday!

Any tips would be handy as i have not had an interview for 13 years.
Shall i ware a suit or just black trousers and shirt/tie jobby?

Joining the working masses again. Got a job starting Tuesday :D

Went for an interview Thursday, was told there would be second interviews but i was a strong candidate. Got a phonecall Friday to say i stood head and shoulders above the rest and could i come in on Tuesday :D Money is 10k less than before but it seems a good job so will see how it goes..

Hi all,

As i posted yesturday i'm off to an Induction with Saga on Monday. Im going to ware a suit as i don't have a decent jacket to match a shirt / tie etc.

Is it worth being prepared? notes etc? I wouldn't have a clue what to take down as ive said ive not had an oppertunity in 13 years :o

I'd recommend wearing a suit...otherwise a nice shirt / tie combo with trousers will be fine (Read: suit trousers / smart :p)

Atleast read up on the company...Write down some questions you can ask them...and anything you can think of that you would like to know about the job really...Just to prepare your mind if anything :)
